ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
In a frame for assembling and uniting
together the component parts of a piece of furni-
ture such as a chair or a table, the combination
of a rib-like corner piece, an inset and a wedge
which cooperate with a profiled leg in such as way
that, by placing set screws and dowels in the special-
ly provided seatings, a unitary structure is obtained,
which not only is endowed with the required robust-
ness and rigidity, but it is also easy and convenient
to dismember when so required or necessary.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A metal framing for pieces of furniture comprising
profiled component parts adapted to form a framing on a plane
and legs to be fastened to the framing, characterized in that from
each leg there extend longitudinal side strips which encompass
two of said profiled parts in the area where they converge, said
leg being affixed through a wedge acting on the profiled component
parts from the side remote from said strips and through a junction
corner piece the wings of which are inserted in header seatings
of said profiled parts, the leg, the corner piece and the wedge
being connected to each other by set screws.
2. A framing according to Claim 1, in which the
sloping wedge faces each exhibit, a blind hole in which a dowel
is received which is passed through a bore in the wall of the
seating of each said profiled part and inserted in a slot-like
groove of each wing inserted in the seating of each said profiled
part.
3. A framing according to Claim 1, in which the wings
of said corner piece are extended from a central portion which
is adapted to mate the edges of the seating of the profiled parts
in which said wings are inserted.
4. A framing according to Claim 1, in which a hollow
space is provided in each said leg which receives an inset to
which there are screwed the set screws which are centrally passed
through the wedge, the corner piece and the wall of said hollow
space.
5. A framing according to Claim 1, 2 or 3 which forms
part of a chair or table.

This invention rela~es in general to a metal-
lic framing for pieces of furniture~ and more.parti.eu-
larly to the mutual fastening of the component parts
which are adapted to ~ake up framings of the ktnd
referred to above.
The difficulty is kno~m to provide a nodal -
point of a framing, which11s adapted to afford a great
. stabiliity to the structure borne by said raming. This ~ :
. problem is felt particularly when manufacturing pieees
:10 of furniture having a metallie structure~ when from the
nodal point co-nponent parts depart which are not addition~
ally affixed to other struetures~ but are merely laid on~
for example on a flooring: thus, for example, the legs
of a chair or of a table must be snugly affixed to their
supporting plane not to have them negatively influencing ~ ~.

An object of the invention is to suggest a :~
metallic framing for pieces o furniture, the installa~
tion of which is easy, reliable and capable of being ~ .
easily performed without incurring the risk of obtaining
an unstable or unsatisfactory stru.eture.
This object is achieved aecording to this invention
: by a metallic framing~ more parti.cularly for chairs and
tables~ which comprises profilecl sections adapted to
make up a framing on a plane and legs to be affixed to ~

said profiled component parts i.n the area in whieh they
converge to provide an apex, said le~ beingr fastened to
the apex by means of a wedge l~hich acts upon the pro-

wllich make up the apex~ the leg~ the corner piece and
the wedge being mutually connected by set screws.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention~ the
slopin~ surfaces of the wedge.have, each, a seating in
which a dowel is received, which is passed through a
bore of the wall of the seat oE the proflled component
part which is inserted in a slot-like groove in~erted
in the seating of the profiled component part.
With reference to the figures of the accompanying
drawings, the invention will be better explained on the
basis of a preferred embodiment thereof.

FIGURE 1 is an exploded view of a portion of a
framing according to the in~ention~ and
- FIGURE 2 shows a top view of the framing shown
in FIGURE 1 in the position of installation. ~ -
The framing according to the invention~ as shown ~:
in the drawings~ comprises proflled component parts 10
and ll, a corner piece or tab 12 for joi~ting the members
10 and ll~ a leg 13, a tightening wedge 14, a core or
inset 15, set screws 16 and connection dowels 17.
Each component part 10, ll, at its end, is equip-
ped with a header seating 18, which is adapted to recei~e
in a slidable manner either wi.ng 19 of the corner piece 12.
The two wings 19 of the corner piece 12 are per-
; pendicular to one another an~1 are extended from a central
portion 20 which is a~lapted to match the edges of the .
seatings 18. The portion 20 provides a counter-wedge to
the wedge 14~ which with its sloping surfaces mates the
~urfaces of the two componenl; parts 10, ll adjoining the
seatlngs 18~
The wedge 14 has a trapezoidal cross-sectlonal
outline and has centrally passing bores 21 which correspond

to hores 22 of the portion 20 ancl to bores 23 of the
leg 13.
The bores 23 of the leg 13 are formed through
a wall 24 of an end seating of the leg 13 adapted to
receive the insev 15 which is equi.pped in its turn with
tapped holes 25 in which the screws 16 are screwed.
The wall 24 is intended to mate the outer surface
of the portion 20. In addition~ from the leg 13 longitu-
dinal strips 32 are ex-tended~ which are mutually perpendi-
cular and are adapted externally to encompass the end ~ --
areas of the COmponent parts 10 and 11. .
In a bottom extension of the portion ~0~ more-
over~ a bore 26 is provided, which can be put in align-
ment with a bore 27 of the wall 24 and with a tapped hole
28 provided in the inset 15.
Through each sloping face of the wedge 14 a
blind hole 29 is providecl whlch gives a seat to a dowel
17, the latter being adapted;to be inserted, in addition,
into a bore 30 of the seat 18 and in a slot-like ~roove
31 of the wing 19.
The mutual arrangement of the bore 30 and the
groove 31 is such that the dowel 17 inserted iII the bore
30 is allowed to slide within the groove 31 between a
position where the wing 19 is withdrawn from the seating
18 an~1 a posi.tion where the portion 20 abuts the eclges
of the seating 18.
The assemblage of a framing according to the in-
vention is carried out as follows .
The wings 1~ are inserted in the seatings 18 and
bring the groove 31 in correspondence with the bore 30.
The do~els 17 are then inser-ted through the bore 30 into
the groove 31. The correct positioning for inserting the
dowels 17 is acljusted by having the wings 19 to s:Lide the

tance wl-ich is correct just or being inserted in the
blind holes 29 cf the we(lge 14. The latter is then
pushed towards the members 10 and ll and cause the com-
plete en-trance of the wings 19 into the seatings 18 as
the sloping faces of the same wedge contact the members
10 and 11.
~ t this stage, the leg 13 with the inset 15 in
the seating~ with its wall 24 poin*ing towards the portion
20 is brought with the strips 32 contacting the members
10 and ll; the bores 21~ 22~ 23 and 25 must be very cor-
rectly aligned so that the screws 16 can be inserted
from the side of the wedge 14 to be screwed in-to the
bores 25 of the inset 15.
Simul-taneously~ also the bores 26~ 27 and 28 are
aligned so that in the latter bore a screw can be tighte-
ned (not shown ), which is inserted from the side of the
portion ~0.
In the way just now described a stable structure
is provided without having -the tightening of the legs
to the frame prejudicing the stablity of same structure.
An incorrect assemblage has been rendered virtllally impos-
sible~ in fact~ and so is a stress on material which would
be susceptible of damaging it. Thus also the fastening
system according to the invention makes possible a take~
up of the clearances which often occur between the leg
and the framing and which make the supported structure
unstable~ such as for example a table.
Of course, the componen-t parts and the fastening
members as described above could also be differently
shaped. Thus the fastening members could also connect
with any corner the profiled components which make up the
framing of the resting plane, rather than at right angles
as described herein.

framing according to the invention permits to make
up differently composed metalli.c structures: more par-
ticularly~ a selection is afforded be~ween various forms
of the structure on the basis of a limited number of
constructional component parts.
