English Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure
A switch cabinet is disclosed which has drawer-type panels of
instrument sets adapted to be electrically connected with bus bars disposed
inside the switch cabinet. The bus bars are provided, in the area of each
drawer-type panel, with a cover which forms a protection upon removal of the
drawer-type panel and is adapted to be contacted from below by at least one
wedge member on the drawer-type panel to be displaced along the bus bars as
the panel is being inserted into the cabinet. The wedge member also serves
as a contact piece for establishing ground connection between the drawer-type
panel and a side wall, connected to the switch cabinet, of a bus bar channel
open toward the face of the switch cabinet.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A switch cabinet comprising drawer-type panels of instrument sets
adapted to be electrically connected with bus bars disposed inside the switch
cabinet, the bus bars being provided in the area of each drawer-type panel
with a cover which forms a protection upon removal of the drawer-type panel
and is adapted to be contacted from below by at least one wedge member on the
drawer-type panel so as to be displaced along the bus bars as the panel is
being inserted into the cabinet, characterized in that the wedge member serves
as a contact piece for establishing ground connection between the drawer-type
panel and a side wall, connected to the switch cabinet, of a bus bar channel
open toward the face of the switch cabinet.
2. A switch cabinet according to Claim 1, characterized in that the
wedge member is made from a metal strip provided at one end with a portion
bent off at a right angle for attaching to the drawer-type panel and at its
opposite end with an inclined edge, the strip having three sections formed by
means of two longitudinal slits and having their respective ends disposed in
the plane of the strip, the two outer sections curving in one direction out
of the plane of the strip, whereas the centre section curves in the opposite
direction out of the plane of the strip.
3. A switch cabinet according to Claim 2, characterized in that the
two outer sections of the wedge member, in operational position of the drawer-
type panel, abut the inside of the side wall of the bus bar channel, whereas
the centre section is permanently in contact with an instrument set.
4. A switch cabinet according to Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in
that a support sheet on the drawer-type panel is provided at the approximate
height of the wedge member with a projection forming in operational position
of the drawer-type panel a support for the side wall of the bus bar channel
at the location where it is acted upon by the wedge member.

5. A switch cabinet according to Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in
that the side wall of the bus bar channel being acted upon by the wedge member
is provided at its face with a bent-off member extending parallel to the face
of the switch cabinet and having apertures therein at appropriate heights to
receive, in tight-fitting fashion, projections on the drawer-type panels.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

~066'7~S
This invention relates to a switch cabinet with drawer-type panels
of instrument sets adapted to be electrically connected with bus bars disposed
inside the switch cabinet. The bus bars are adapted to be covered, when a
panel is removed, by means of a cover which, for establishing an electrical
contact as the panel is inserted, is adapted to be lifted along the bus bars
by means of at least one wedge member which is mounted on the panel.
According to the present invention the wedge member not only lifts
the protective cover but also forms a contact for a grounding connection
between the drawer-type panel and a side wall, connected with the switch
cabinet, of a bus bar channel which is open toward the face of the switch
cabinet.
The drawing schematically illustrates one embodiment of the present
invention, showing in
Figure 1 a switch cabinet in front elevation,
Figure 2 a sectional plan view of Figure 1,
Figure 3 a side elevation of the wedge member according to Figure
2.
Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a switch cabinet 1 with a drawer-typ~
panel 2 for instrument sets adapted to be connected in conventional fashion
with bus bars 4 disposed inside the switch cabinet 1. In order to simplify
the drawing, merely one set, denoted 3, has been shown.
In the area of the drawer-type panel 2, the bus bars 4 are provid-
ed with a cover 5 offering a protection from contact with the bus bars 4 after
a drawer-type panel 2 has been removed from the switch cabinet 1.
An electrical connection between the instruments 3 and the bus
bars 4 is achieved by at least one wedge member 6 on the drawer-type panel 2
extending underneath the cover 5 to lift it along the bus bars 4.
The wedge member 6 is constructed as a contact member for estab- `

lishing a ground connection between the drawer-type panel 2 and a side wall 7 -~
which is connected with the switch cabinet 1 and forms part of a bus bar

channel which is open toward the front of the switch cabinet.
The wedge member is advantageously made from a metal strip which
is provided at one end with a rectangularly bent off portion 8 for attaching
to the drawer-type panel 2 (Figure 2).
The wedge member is provided at its free end with an inclined
edge tFigure 3) which is adapted to extend underneath the cover 5 and lift it.
The wedge member is further provided with sections 10, 11, 12
ormed by means of two longitudinal slits 9 tFigure 3), the sections extending
at their respective ends in the plane of the metal strip.
The two outer sections 10, 12 are aligned in approximately cir-
cular fashion and disposed outside the plane of the strip. The centre section
11 is likewise removed from the plane of the strip in approximately circular
arc-fashion, but in the opposite direction ~Figure 2).
For establishing a ground connection between the switch cabinet 1
and the drawer-type panel 2, the aligned sections 10, 12 of the wedge member
6 abut, in operational position of drawer-type panel 2, the side wall 7 of the
bus bar channel. The oppositely directed section 11, however, is permanently
in contact with the set 3 of the drawer-type panel 2.
In order to ensure that the side wall 7 of the bus bar channel
cannot deviate under the contact pressure of the sections 10, 12 of the wedge
member 6, a support sheet 13 on the drawer-type panel 2 (Figures 1 and 2) at
approximately the height of the wedge member 6 is provided with an extension
or projection 14 tFigure 2) which in operational position of the drawer-type
panel 2 forms a support for the side wall 7 of the bus bar channel at the
location at which it is acted upon by the wedge member 6. For this purpose,
the side wall 7 of the bus bar channel is provided at its front with a bent-
off member 15 extending parallel to the face of the switch cabinet. In the
bent-off member 15 openings 16 are provided to receive projections 14 in ~ -~
tight-fitting engagc~ont.
