English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
A spacer for facing panels of a concrete wall,
including a pair of pegs, each having a head to lie against
an external surface of a panel and a shank to pass freely
through a hole in the panel. The shanks have a series of
spaced holes in them so enabling the spacer to be used with
different thickness panels, and a link is provided having
bent-over ends to pass through holes in the shanks to
connect them together. The ends co-operate in use with the
heads to grip the panels whereby the spacing of the panels
is determined.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:-
1. A spacer for facing panels of a concrete wall,
which spacer comprises a pair of pegs, each having a head
to lie against an external surface of a panel and a shank
to pass freely through a hole in the panel, and a link
having bent-over ends to pass through holes in the shanks
to connect them together, which ends in use are in contact
with the inner surfaces of said facing panels and co-operate
with the heads to grip the panels whereby the spacing of
the panels is determined.
2. A spacer according to claim 1, wherein the shanks
have a series of spaced holes in them so enabling the
spacer to be used with different thickness panels.
3. A spacer according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein
the shanks are longitudinally grooved to receive the link.
4. A concrete wall having facing panels spaced apart
by spacers as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

Jt;'~
This invention relates to spacers for facing panels of
concrete walls, which spacers are of the kind intended to
hold the panels in a desired spaced relation prior to
filling of the space between them with concrete.
According to this invention there is provided a spacer
for facing panels of a concrete wall, which spacer comprises
a pair of.pegs, each having a head to lie against an external
surface of a panel and a shank to pass freely through a hole
in the panel, and a link having bent-over ends to pass

ends in use are in contact ~ith the inner surfaces of said.
, facing panels and co-~operate with the heads to grip the panels
. whereby the spacing of tl,e panels is determined.
~. The shanks may have a series of spaced holes in them
.~ so enabling the spacer to be used with different thickness
,: ~
panels.
Furthermore, the shanks may be longitudinally grooved to
receive the link whereby the shanks are held aligned and the
link is neatly retained.
~,
. 20 An embodiment of the inventi.on will now be described, by
way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing
in which:-
-. ; Fig. 1 shows the pegs of a spacer viewed from above and
inserted in panels, and
Fig. 2 shows in sectional elevation the inserted pegs
... .
d ~ ~ connected by a link.
:~ In .the drawing, a pair o~ panels 1 and 2 for facing a
:~: concrete wall are shown prior to filling of the space between
:. them with concrete.
~ 30 q'he spacing of the panels is maintained by spacers
.. each of which comprises a pair of pegs 3, 4 and a link $.

.- The pegs 39 4, which conveniently are of a plastics
, materia],, have flat heads 5, 15 which, when the pegs are
inserted in aligned holes 9, 10 in the panels, overlie
,' the outer surfaces o the panels to take the loads
applied to the panels during pouring of concrete. The
:~1 pegs 3, 4 have shanks which extend through the holes 9, 10
~,i, O with radial clearance if desired to facilitate insertion.
;. The shanks in the form shown have in them'longitudinally-
':~,. spaced holes 6, 7 which open into longitudinal

grooves 11, 12o
~i , The link'8 i~s for instance of stout iron wire and
~;`. has its ends 13, 14 bent at right angles to the medial
'~ ' portion which is of a length dependent on the desired
-1 spacing of the panels. After the pegs have been ',
inserted through the holes 9, 10, the link 8 is inserted
so that it lies in the aligned grooves 11, 12 with ~ts
~'' C ends 13, 14 inserted through the ones of the holes 6, 7
' adjacent the ilmer surfaces of the panels 1, 2. Thus
! ` the link 8 resists displacement of the panels when ~.
subject to external pressures, the panels fitting neatly
',` 1 ` between the heads 5, 15 and link ends 13, 14.
~',, ' It will be clear that the spacer of this invention
.,.,' , not only ensures the correct spacing of the panels, but
also'can be easily fitted by relatively unskilled labour
`,: without using special tools.
