English Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure
A new cleaner composition for chrome surfaces
and the like consists of a mixture of coal oil with refined
paraffin wax and a finely divided solid scouring material
such as pumice powder. The mixture preferably is used
absorbed into a suitable hand-sized pad of absorbent material
and includes a deodorizer for the coal oil and a stabilizer.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A cleaner composition for chrome and like surfaces
comprising in admixture:
(a) the solid hydrocarbon known as paraffin wax;
(b) the liquid hydrocarbon known as coal oil in the
amount of from 400 to 500 ml for each 100 ml of the solid
hydrocarbon;
(c) finely divided solid scouring material in the
amount of from 75 to 100 grams per 100 ml of the solid
hydrocarbon; and
(d) a deodorizer effective with the liquid hydrocarbon.
2. A cleaner composition as claimed in claim 1, , wherein
the finely divided solid scouring material is pumice powder.
3. A cleaner composition as claimed in claim 2, further
comprising :
the stablizer of the empirical formula C18H26O.
4. A cleaner composition as claimed in claim 2 or 3,
wherein the finely divided solid scouring material is pumice
powder of grade double f .

5. A cleaner composition as claimed in claims 1, 2 or 3
wherein the deodorizer is added in the amount of about 0.5 to
1.5 ml per 100 ml of the liquid hydrocarbon.
6. A cleaner composition as claimed in any one of claims
1 to 3 incorporated into a pad of absorbent material.
7. A composition as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein
the amount of liquid hydrocarbon known as coal oil is 450 ml per
100 ml of the solid hydrocarbon known as paraffin wax.

~733~
NEW C~EANER COMP~SITION FOR ~IROM~ ~ND LIKE SU~F~CES.
Field of the Invention
This invention is concerned with a new cleaner
composition for chrome and like surfaces, and especially to such
a composition for use absorbed in a conveniently-handled pad.
Review o~ the Prior Art
Numerous attempts have been made hitherto to provide
cleaners for chrome and like surfaces, but difficulty is
experienced in providing such cleaners that are safe, effective
and yet relatively inexpensive to produce.
Definition of the Invention
It is therefore an object of the invention to
provide a new cleaner composition for chrome and like surfaces.
It is a more specific object to provide a new cleaner
composition for chrome surfaces that is particularly suitable
for incorporation into a pad of absorbent material to facilitate
its application to a surface.
In accordance with the invention there is provided
a cleaner composition for chrome and like surfaces comprising
in admixture:
(a) the solid hydrocarbon known as paraffin wax;
(b) the liquid hydrocarbon known as coal oil in the
amount of from 400 to 500 ml for each 100 ml of the solid
hydrocarbon;
(c) finely divided solid scouring material in the
amount of from 75 to 100 grams per 100 ml of the solid
hydrocarbon; and
(d) a deodorizer effective with the liquid hydrocarbon.

employed in liquid form, but preferably it i5 used absorbed into
a pad of suitable absorbent material, such as a resin-bound
random fibxous mat ma-terial, for convenience in handling,
packaging and application to the surface to be cleaned. Each
pad will be of a size suitable to be gripped in the hand of an
operator, and will be sold sealed in a readily-operable liquid-
impervious wrapper.
The preferred composition, in a quantity suitable
for incorporation into about 20 of such handy pads, is made ~`
by mixing together from about 400 to 500 ml of the liquid
hydrocarbon known as coal oil with 100 ml of the solid ~;~
hydrocarbon known as refined paraffin wax. Into this mixture
is incoporated from 75 to 100 grams of finely divided
scouring material comprising pumice powder of grain size
double f.
A particular preferred composition consists of
about 450 ml of coal oil and 75 to 100 grams of pumice powder
for each 100 ml of the refined paraffin wax.
The composition should also include a deodorizer
effective with the coal oil, and I have found a particularly
suitable material to be that sold under the trade mark
"Neutroleum Alpha". ("Neutroleum Alpha" is the trade mark for
an all-purpose deodorizing agent sold in Canada by Fritzsche,
Dodge and Olcott Canada Limited.) From about 0.5 to 1.5 ml, and
preferably 1.0 ml, is required for each 100 ml of the coal oil.
It is found advantageous to add to the composition a stablizing
material such as sold under the trade "Fixateur Versalide".
("Versalide" is the trade mark of the Givandon Corporation for
a polycyclic musk of the empirical formula C18H26O.) This product
stablizes the product to maintain the deodorant incorporated

therein so that it retains a pleasant odour more effectively
over its useful life. From 1/2 to 1 ml is required for each
100 ml of the coal oil.
The resulting product is highly effective for the
cleaning of chrome and like surfaces, and when incorporated
in a pad as described is easily packaged, sold and used. The
material is stable so that the product has a long shelf life
and is ecomonical in use, being effective to clean a relatively
large surface area.
