English Abstract

A B S T R A C T
This invention is a foldaway barbecue consisting
of a tripod to the legs of which is removably attached, by
means of chains, a pan which serves as a firepot. Above the
firepot pan is detachably suspended, by means of chains, a
wire mesh grill; these chains being, in turn, attached to a
grill height adjusting chain which passes over a pulley at the
top of the tripod, the free end of which slides freely upon one
of the tripod legs, and can be fixed in position by means of a
quick release locking device.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclu-
sive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows,-
1. A foldaway barbecue assembly comprising, in combination,
a tripod, the legs of which are equipped at their bottom ends
with pins to provide stability, and with a safety hook attached
equidistantly part way up each leg, for the purpose of suspending
a firepot pan, by means of chains, from said safety hooks; a fire-
pot pan, suspended by means of chains attached to said tripod
legs, within which the barbecuing fire is built; a wire mesh
grill upon which food is to be barbecued, located directly above
said firepot pan, said grill being suspended from the top of
said tripod by a chain which passes over a pulley and the free
end of which is attached to one leg of said tripod by means of
a quick slidable release means, for the purpose of adjusting
the height of the grill above the fire pots and a hook attached
to one of said legs for hanging utensils thereon.
2. A barbecue assembly as set forth in Claim 1, in which
the said firepot consists of a circular metal pan having attached
to the bottom thereof three equally spaced chains, each of which
is removably suspended from one of said safety hooks.
3. A barbecue assembly as set forth in Claim 1, in which
said wire mesh grill is circular in shape, having a diameter
equal to the diameter of said firepot pan, and having three equally
spaced chains attached to the rim thereof, said chains being joined
together at their free ends where it is removably attachable to
said chain which passes over the pulley at the top of the tripod,
4. A barbecue assembly such as set forth in Claim 1, in
which the quick release slidable means attached to the free end
of the chain supporting the grill, consists of a flat plate with
a hole in the center thereof; said hole being of a diameter to
slide freely upon one of said tripod legs, so that when said plate
assumes an angular position on said leg, it locks and holds said
chain with its attached grill, against movement.

This invention consists of a barbecue ~hich is rapidly
disassembled for storage or transportation purposes, and easily
assembled for use. Being assemblod out of separate components
it lends itselr, as a whole or in part, for a nu~ber of ~ther
uses around the home or camp.
When used around the home it can easily b~ stored in
a pantry or any other out of the way place, in its ~ igassembled
form5 and ~or camping purposes, it can be carried in a car or --.
camp~r, ~hile occupying very little valuable space.
In describing the invention reference will be made
to the attached drawing~ in which,~ ~ -

15 components, . .
Figure 3, is an ele~ation Or the item shown in
Figure 2, and
Figure 4, show~ an isometric vie~ cf the invention
as it is usod other than for barbecue purposes.
The drawings ~ho~ the invention consisting of a sup-
porting framework made of three tubular metal legs 1,1,1, which
are permanently ~oined at their tops, but are free to s~ivel
90 as to form a tripod whcn spread apart; a circ~lar metal pan 2
~or containing the fuel, guch as charcoal, therein, and a
circular grill 3 Or wire mesh, for holding thereon the meat or
other ~ood to be grilled, of about the same diamet-r as the
pan 2~
The pan 2 is provided at its rim with three equally
spac~d chains 4 by means of ~hich the said pan is attached to
3o the legs 1, by safety hoo~s 5 ~hich are in turn permanently
a~ixed, at the same level, one to each leg,
The grill 3 i~ also provided with three equally spaced

chains 6 which are attached to its rim. ~owever, the chains 6
are joined at their free ends by a ring 7 which attaches to a
safety hook 8, which in turn i8 attached to a chain 9. The
chain 9 passes over a pulley 10 and is attached at its free end
to a position locking device 11, by means Or which the height
above the pan 2, or above the ground, of the said grill can be
adiusted and held.
The position locking device 11, as shown in Figures
2 and 3, consists of a flat plate 11 which is provided with a
central hole 12, by means of wh$ch the plate 11 slides freely
upon one of the legs 1. When the attached end of the plate 11
is raised, due to the pull of the chain 9, caused by the weight
of the gril~ 3, the plate 11 locks itself against the leg 1
because of the hole 12 being lodged at an angle against said leg.
To provide stability to the barbecue, the legs 1 are
provided with pins 13 w~ich sink ~nto so~t ground, or provide
a grip on concrete.
~ he primary purpose of this invention is its use as
a barbocue, howevor, ~t has many other uses, one which i8 shown
by way of example, in Figure 4, where the tripod is used as a
support for a ca~ping lantern l4, bug ~illing device, or other
similar ite~s. For barbecuing food directly over a wood fire
which was built on the ground, the pan 2 iB removed, and the
gri~l alon~ is used. ~ook 15 is for hanging utensils therefrom.
One definite advantage in the use of this invention,
is the ease ~ith which this barbecue can be cleaned. ~his, of
course is due to the ease with which the various components of
this in~ention can be removed and c}eaned separate}y be~ore
storing or reassembling.
