English Abstract

ABSTRACT
In order to provide electricity to different
devices, a headpiece is provided with solar cells and
covered against damages with a layer of transparent
material.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

"The embodiments of the invention in which
an exclusive property of priviledge is claimed are
defined as follows":
CLAIM 1 : In combination, a headpiece manufactured of
a thermosetting resin re-inforced with a mass of
interlaced polyester fibers, a plurality of solar cells
connected in series or parallel and integrated into the
outside surface of said headpiece, each said cell being
encapsulated in a transparent silicone rubber and all
said cells nested together so that the entire exterior
area of said headpiece becomes an active photovoltaic
surface, further electrical connection between said cells
and power consuming devices, said further electrical con-
nections including a diode controlling the direction of
current from the cells to the consuming devices, and a
top layer of synthetic transparent material covering
said headpiece and solar cells to protect said cells
against atmospheric conditions and mechanical damages.
CLAIM 2 : The combination as claimed in Claim 1 wherein
said top layer consists of "Lexan" ? or "Plexiglass" ?.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

DISCLOSURE
~ headpiece, headcovering or helmet as pop-
ularly known is worn primarily for protection of the
head area ei~her from accidental blows, falling debris
or protec~ion from the environment; in some instances
as in outer space, a helmet also becomes a casing to
protect an individual's head from radiation and/or to
~eal the oxygen supply within the head area.
This new invention "The Power-Pack ~eadpiece"
offers all the previous uses of a headpiece plus the
uniqueness of being a guaranteed source of eleotric
supply for an individual anywhere in the world or outer
8pace ~light permittlng)~ This headpiece is a solar-
electric generator of~ering u~ma~ched por~abili~y since
it is worn; heing a single struc1:ure, the individual is
not enc~nbered to any greater degree.
The avexage exterior surac~ exposed to light
on such a headpiece is approximately 1000 sq~cm. which
in essence is the solar cell screen area~

The electricity produced by the headpiece isstored in~o rechargeable batteries either within the
headpiece or conveniently ~lose ~o it for unlimited
requirements such a5; lights, communica~ions, motorized
artificial limbs, portable kidney machi~es, pacemakers,
body heaters, electronic triggering of devices su~h as
gùns, por~able computexs etc. '~his invention adds
considerably ~o the security of people in need of a
power source in remote areas, particulaxly to the
secuxity o~ the Armed Forces.
"The Power-Pack ~Ieadpiece'l is formed by
moulding a thermosetting resin re-inforced with a mass
of interlaced polyester ibers. Metal helmets, as
used by the Armed Forces, can be lined with such a
polyester surface to provide a base for the solar cells.
The solar cells are encapsulated individually in a
transpaxent silicone-rubber and applied to this surace-
nested together so the entire extexior area becomes an
active photovoltaic ~urface, These solar cells are con~
nected together wi~h metal leads which may be "Te~lon"
coa~ed to protect them from coxrosion. ~he cells are
connected in series or parallel to obtain the desired
voltage and current ratingsa A coating of 'ILexan" ~ or
"Plexiglass~ ~ or equivalent is applied as a final top
surface or extra protection from the envixonment. ~'The

Power~Pack ~eadpiece" is weather resistant and requires
practically no maintenance with the exception of cleanliness.
The metallization used to make the electrical connections
~o the solar cells, leads ~o the interior back part of ~he
headpiece where a diode is installed to assure ~hat the
current will only flow when the solar cells are delivering
energy, preventing damage to the cells at other times.
Immediately following the diode, near the outer edge,
a emale outle~ is installed for the purpose of
attaching a lead with a male outlet as required to
re-charge a battery~ies) relatively close to th~
headpiece~
I do not limit myself to the said description,
since the invention "The Power-Pack Headpiece" may adopt
variant shapes, sizes and structures but the scope
remains the same; electrical energy produced within a
headpiece.
