The present invention relates to a method of color-
developing printed cloth by a high temperature and high pressure
steamer in printed color-developing of cloth made of 100% cotton
yarn or synthetic fiber or cotton blend yarn fabric, union cloth,
knitted cloth, etc., wherein it is intended to conduct efficient
color-developing by using a high temperature and high pressure
steamer in which color-developing of reactive dye is done.
Heretofore, printed color-developing process of cotton
cloth using reactive dyes is done ordinarily by placing a cloth
having printing done thereon in an ager (a normal pressure color-
developing device) for conducting the color-developing for 7
minutes under temperature of 100C, however this color-developing
.
method has such shortcoming that cloth will not be completely
dried generating lack of uniformity in humidity of cloth thus
color-developing will not be uniform, causing color-developing
of different color or causing uneven color-developing derived
from incomplete color-developing and fixing, thus resulting in
defective products.
Further, conventional print color-developing process
20` using reactive dyes had such shortcoming that 10 to 20 water
washing tanks are provided for cleaning of cloth having print
color-developing done thereon, thus repeating water washing,
therefore, the reactive dyes at portions where color-developing
and fixing are not satisfactorily done as mentioned above are
washed out within the water washing tanks or said washed out
dyes adhere again to the cloth, stalning white portions and other
portions of the cloth~
The present invention is made to eliminate said short-
coming and its purport lies in that a processed cloth having
printing or solid dyeing done thereon using reactive dyes is
introduced into a high temperature and high pressure steamer
for conducting perfect color-developing Since said cloth

having had color-developing done thereon by a high temperature
and high pressure steamer has perfect color-developing done
thereon under high temperature and high pressure to have clear
dyeing done thereon and water washing can be done only with 3
to 4 water washing tanks, equipment required therefor can be
simplified, thus its advantages are great.
In accordance with this invention, there is provided
a method of developing a color on a cloth, wherein a printed
design is formed on said cloth by treating the latter with
10 reactive dyes according to a pattern adapted to form said
printed design, which comprises introducing a continuous
length of said cloth treated with said reactive dyes into a
high temperature and high pressure steamer, forming downwardly
hanging sags in said cloth by allowing the latter to wind
around vertically reciprocating means, intermittently moving
said cloth, while retaining said sags therein, through a high
temperature and high pressure steamer, and washing the dyed
cloth.
There is also provided an apparatus for developing
; 20 a color on a cloth including means for forming a printed
design on said cloth by treating the latter with reactive dyes
according to a pattern, which comprises a high temperature
and high pressure steamer, means for introducing a continuous
length of said cloth treated with said reactive dyes into said
high temperature and high pressure steamer, vertically recipro-
. cating means forming downwardly hanging sags in said cloth by
allowing the latter to wind around said reciprocating means,
means to intermittently moving said cloth, while retaining
said sags therein, through said high temperature and high
pressure steamer, and means for washing said dyed cloth.

Now, the present invention will be explained in detail
based on the example shown in the drawing.
The drawing is a schematic diagram to show an example
of a device used in a printed color-developing process according
to the present invention.
What is shown as (1) is a cloth such as cotton cloth on
which reactive dye is coated, and said cloth (1) is introduced
into a high pressure steamer vessel (3) through an inlet seal
mechanism (2). What is shown as (4) is a cloth push down roll,
and while said roll (4) is attached to a forward end of a chain
or rope (6) which is guided ànd supported by a driving pulley 15),
a weight (7) is connected to the other end of said rope (6).
Therefore the roll (4) is reciprocatedly moved up and down by
regular and reverse rotation of the driving pulley (5). What are
shown as (8) are a number of cloth conveying rolls which move
intermittently within the high pressure steamer (3) and said
rolls (8) are hung on and supported by and between a pair of
left and right endless chains (9) with uniform intervals and
in parallel manner. What are shown as (10) are guide wheels
to guide the endless chains (9), and (11) is an intermittent
driving wheel, while (12) is a cloth outlet seal mechanism of
the high pressure steamer vessel (3), and (13) are cloth hold
down rolls.
Now, when the cloth (1) is introduced into the steamer
vessel (3) through the inlet seal mechanism, said cloth (1) is
pushed down by the descending action of the cloth push down roll

(4) and a sag is formed in the cloth (1). Then the cloth push
down roll (4) ascends, and when the sag of cloth forms a pre-
scribed size by gravity, the chains (9) rotate for a prescribed
distance and the cloth is conveyed for one step hanging on the
rolls (8) which proceed simultaneously with said chains (9),
thus the cloth is sandwiched between the cloth hold down rolls
(13) and the conveying rolls (8). Then the cloth push down
roll (4) descends again to form the sag of the cloth (1) and
the cloth push down roll (4) and the conveying rolls (8) make
intermittent movement in a same manner as men~ioned above for
consecutively conveying the cloth (1) in a no_tension state.
Thus the cloth (1) conveyed within the steamer vessel (3) has
a high temperature and high pressure processing done thereon
and has color-developing done thereon with water being supplied
from showers, then the cloth is taken out of the steamer (3)
through the cloth outlet seal mechanism (12), thus color-
developing process is done thereon. And since a water sealing
tank (14) is provided within the outlet seal mechanism (12) in
this example, preliminary water washing is done by said water
sealing tank (14), thus the set up is helpful for water washing.
Example:
The temperature within the steamer is made 1~0C. and
the cotton cloth (1) having reactive dyes coated thereon was
introduced into said steamer then said cotton cloth was processed
within the steamer for about 2 minutes by heating under pressure,
then as a result color-developing was perfectly done with
efficient and clear dyeing. Further the water washing process
of thus color-developed cotton cloth is shortened, thus the
number of water washing tanks was made to 3 to 4 only.
According to the present invention explained above,
since the cloth after printing did not have unevenness in
drying that is unevenness in humidity by the high temperature
ll~G257
and high pressure processing of the steamer, the printed color-
developing (dyeing) was done quite perfectly and clearly,
furthermore the white portion of the processed cloth was not
stained, thus the value of merchandise was enhanced compared
to that of a-color-developed cloth obtained by normal pressure
color-developing process in a conventional method.
