English Abstract

PHD. 76-025.
18-1-1977.
ABSTRACT:
The invention provides a method of generat-
ing coded images of three-dimensional objects with an
incoherent or mutually coherent point distribution of
radiation sources. Various individual radiation sources
which are arranged in a container are simultaneously
activated at brief intervals by means of a generator
and a control unit. Superposition images of the objects
are formed on a detector surface. In these images the
three-dimensional object information is stored which is
subsequently decoded to form layer images.

PHD 76-025
THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A device for generating coded images of three-
dimensional objects with an incoherent or mutually coher-
ent point distribution of X-ray radiation sources, charac-
terized in that several separate fixed anode X-ray tubes
of which the focusses of the individual tubes are aligned
in the direction of the object to be imaged, the tubes
being arranged in a common container and being simultane-
ously activatable at brief intervals by means of a generator
and a control unit, each tube being provided with a radia-
tion aperture.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, characterized
in that the X-ray radiation sources are divided into groups,
the distribution of the individual radiation sources of
each group being coherent relative to each other, each
group of tubes having a separate generator.
3. A device claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, charac-
terized in that an additional separate source is added to
the multiple radiation source for generating single X-ray
images.

Description

PHD 76-025
The invention relates to a method of and a device
for generating coded images of three-dimensional objects
with an incoherent or mutually coherent point distribution
of the radiation sources.
The use of so-termed non-redundant point dis-
tributions as a multiple projection system for the record-
- ing of coded images of three-dimensional X-ray objects is
known for example from Optics Communications Vol. 11, No. 4
(1974), page 368 and from Vol. 12, No. 2 (1974) page 183,
and IEEE C-24, page 391 (177). These coded images can be
decoded, for example, in accordance with a method known
from German Offenlegungsschrift 2,414,322 - 09-10-1975-
Philips Patentverw.
The point distributions may be incDherent as
well as mutually coherent.
The invention has for its object to provide
a method and a device comprising radiation sources in
accordance with the said point distributions which can
be readily realized and whereby moving objects, for
` 20 example, the beating heart, contrast medium in blood
vessels, etc., can also be recorded in coded form.
To th;s end, a method in accordance with the
invention is characterized in that several separate

radiation sources which are arranged in a container are
- - simultaneously actuated at brief intervals by means of
generator and a control unit, superposition images of
the objects being formed, on a detector surface, in
whi~h the three-dimensional object information is stored
for subsequent decoding to form layer images.
A few preferred embodiments in accordance
with the invention will be described in detail herein-
after with reference to the diagrammatic drawings.

radiation source with an associated detector surface.
In ~ig. 1, the radiation sources of a multiple

X-ray tubes 1, for example, tubes comprising a fixed
anode, which are arranged in a r~diation-resistant con-
tainer 3, filled with oil 2, according to given distri-
butions, and are controlled by a generator 4 and a control
unit 5. The radiation 7 emitted through the windows 6,
stopped by the apertures 8, irradiate the object ~ to

radiation sources 12 and 13 which are coherent relative
to each other and which consist of the parts 2, 3, 6 and
8 (see Figure 1) arF activated one briefly after the
other by a control unit 16 via a switching device 14
and a generator 15. The two multiple radiation sources
can also comprise separate generators.
Figure 3 shows a simplified recording con-
struction, comprising a multiple radiation source 17,
- an object 18 to be irradiated and a detector surface 19.
For the recording of inclined object slices, the multiple
radiation source and the detector surface can be arbi-
trarily pivoted around the object 18 as denoted by the
broken lines 20 and 21 in Figure 3.
The activating of the multiple radiation
source can be cinematographically effected in order to
enable reproduction of the movements. The multiple ra-
diation source, however, can also be continuously ope-
rated for object fluoroscopy. The focusses of the indi-
vidual tubes can be advantageously aligned when center-
ed in the direction of the object to be imaged.
~ The multiple radiation source can also be
-~ provided with an additional separate ~ube whereb~ con-
`~ ~ ventional exposures can be realized. .
