English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A bath salt comprising a water-soluble substrate combined
with active detergent characterized in that a gas in liquified or
gaseous form, releasable as a gas from the substrate when the
substrate is dissolved in bath water, is incorporated in the
substrate. This kind of bath salt is used in the usual manner and the
novelty of the bathing event is significantly improved by the
banging, sucking, whistling, hissing and grunting sounds the salt
makes and the prickling, i.e. tactile sensations, which are produced
by the salt as the enclosed liquified and/or gaseous gas is released
upon dissolving the salt in the bath water. Moreover, active
substances which may be combined in the bath preparation enter the
softened upper layers of the skin by a kind of injection effect
caused by the escaping gas.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A bath salt comprising a water-soluble substrate combined
with active detergent characterized in that a gas in liquified or
gaseous form, releasable as a gas from the substrate when the
substrate is dissolved in bath water, is incorporated in the
substrate.
2. A bath salt according to claim 1, characterized in that one
or more gases selected from the group fluoro-chlorohydrocarbon,
nitrogen, dinotrogen monoxide and carbonic acid is used as the gas,
and incorporated in the substrate under high pressure.
3. A bath salt according to claim 1, characterized in that the
substrate is selected from the group of mono-oligo- and poly-
saccharides, sugar alcohols and saccharides, sugar alcohols and
saccharic acids.
4. A bath salt according to claim 3, characterized in that the
oligosaccharide is refined sugar or invert sugar.
5. A bath salt according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in
that sodium lauryl sulphate is used as the substrate.
6. A bath salt according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in
that sodium alkyl-polyglycolether sulphate is used as the active

detergent.
7. A bath salt according to claim 1 further comprising an
agent for preventing it from caking.
8. A bath salt according to claim 7, characterized in that the
agent for preventing the bath salt from caking is a pyrogenic silica.
9. A bath salt according to claim 1 further comprising one or
more ingredients selected from the group consisting of perfume,
active substance and dye.

Description

1~34708
The invention relates to a bath salt comprising a
water-soluble substrate with active detergent and optionally with
perfume, active substance and dye as adjuvants.
The known bath salts contain perfumes, active detergents,
active substances, dyes and/or agents preventing the salt from caking
in large lumps, in addition to a salt, usually sodium chloride. In
some cases bath salts in the form of tablets also contain a
crystalline organic acid with salts which give off a gas when in an
acid medium, as for example, sodium carbonate or sodium perborate, so
that carbonic acid as oxygen is generated as soon as the tablet is
dropped into the water. The tablet disintegrates and thus dissolves
more rapidly in the water.
It is the aim of the invention to provide a bath salt with
improved cleansing and effective massaging actions.
This aim is achieved by the invention in that a gas in
liquified or gaseous form releasable as a gas from the substrate when
the substrate is dissolved in bath water, is incorporated in the

- 1134708
caused by the escaping gas. This penetration effect is comparable to
an infiltration of active substance by intensive massage.
A material which is in the solid state of aggregation and
is soluble at standard temperature and standard pressure is used as
the substrate for the gas in the liquified or gaseous state. The
bath salt is preferably in a granular form, which is due to the
crystallizing substrate. Said substrate must be harmless to the skin
in the concentration in which it is applied to the bath. Liquified
gas and/or gaseous gas is incorporated in said substrate in the
liquid state at elevated temperature and/or elevated pressure, the
liquified and/or gaseous gas dissolving in the substrate. After
cooling the enclosed dissolved gas and allowing it to expand, the
substrate must be able to retain it. A process for producing a
substrate containing an enclosed gas, i.e., a substrate which is
suitable for the present invention, is known from the U.S. Patent No.
3,012,893.
Furthermore appropriate amounts of perfumes, active
detergents, active substances as well as dyes and adjuvants may be
added to said substrate and fixed by the latter.
The bath salt can be placed on the market as a fluid
product and packaged like conventional bath salt. Apart from the
additional effects due to the enclosed gas, the cleansing and
fragrance effects are like those of conventional bath salts.
The bath salt according to the invention, has been found to
be suitable for a large number of therapeutic treatments.
Particularly when essential oils from dwarf pines (Pinus pumilio) are
-- 2

--` 1134708
added this bath salt is therapeutically applicable in cases of
exhaustion for tonicization and to increase the power of resistance.
In adding the essential oils of balm mint (Melissa officinalis) to
the bath salt it acts as an anodyne, it relaxes and is sedative. The
addition of essential oils of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinadis) to
the bath salt results, for example, in strengthening the circulation.
The bath salt according to the invention combined with essential oils
of juniper (juniperus communis) has been found to be particularly
suitable in cases of rheumatic trouble and discomfort caused by
intervertebral disks, and as an anodyne and for promoting the blood
flow. By adding extracts of the horse-chestnut (Aesculus
hippolastanum) blood congestions are reduced and the veins are
strengthened and dilated. With the addition of this extract the bath
salt is also suitable for a therapy of haemorrhoids, and ulcers of
the lower legs.
The example hereafter provides a formula for a bath salt
according to the invention with horse-chestnut extract and dwarf-pine
oll added.

The percentages relate to percent by weight. The carbon
dioxide is enclosed in the refined sugar (cane sugar) by means of the
process described in the U.S. Patent No. 3,012,893.
"Texapon WW99" is a trade name for sodium alkyl polyglycol
ether sulphate and "Aerosil 200V" is a trade name for a pryogenic
silica.
In order to obtain a properly fluid product, to which the
active substances are so applied that they adhere well and are evenly
distributed, the substances according to the above formula were mixed
with each other in the following sequence:
1. active detergent
2. perfumes
3. active substances
4. dyes
5. substrates loaded with gas
6. adjuvants.
With this mode of proceeding and by avoiding high shearing
and mixing forces during the production process, the premature
discharge of the substrate, i.e., the release of the gas, is limited
to a minimum. The drawing-off step and the packaging must be carried
out with care.
