English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A portable electric oven has a cover hinged to a base,
each of which includes an electrical heating resistance.
The base includes a metal plate, which may have a peripheral
channel for collecting liquids, disposed above its heating
resistance. The cover includes a refractory glass observation
window.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is clamed are defined as follows:
1. A portable electric oven comprising a lower portion
having three support legs depending therefrom, an upper portion
hingedly connected to the lower portion and movable relative to
the lower portion between a closed position and an open position
of said oven, and an electrical heating resistance in each of
said lower and upper portions secured in the respective portion
by means of insultating material, the lower portion further com-
prising an aluminum metal plate disposed above the heating
resistance in said lower portion and including a peripheral
channel or slot for collecting liquids therein, and the upper
portion including a refractory glass window therein.
2. An oven as claimed in claim 1 wherein each of said
portions included a handle positioned opposite to the hinged
connection between said portions.

Description

-- 1 --
This invention rqlates to an elec~ric oven, and
in particular to a portable oven comprising a lower portion or
base and an upper portion or cover.
A disadvantage of existing portable electric ovens is
that the heating is not uniform, resulting in the lower parts
of foods becoming burnt while the upper parts do not become
brown.
An object of this invention is to provide an oven which
avoids or substantially reduces this disadvantage.
According to this invention there is provided a portable
electric oven comprising a lower portion having three support
legs depending therefrom, an upper portion hingedly connected
to the lower portion and movable relative to the lower portion
between a closed position and an open position of said oven,
and an electrical heating resistance in each of said lower
and upper portions secured in the respective portion by means
of insulating material, the lower portion further comprising
a metal plate disposed above the heating resistance in said
lower portion, and the upper portion including a refractory
glass window therein.
The invention will be further understood from the
following description with reference to the accompanying draw-
`~ ings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of an oven according to
an embodiment of the invention, the oven being closed;
Figure ~ is a perspective view of the oven of Fig. lwhen open; and
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of the oven of Figs.

1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, an oven 1 comprises a lower
portion or base 2 and an upper portion or cover 3 in which
electrical heating resistances 5 are located in a circular
shape, the resistances 5 being secured by means of several
small sheets 6 of an insulating material. The lower portion
2 includes a similar arrangement of heating resistances 5
as shown in ~ig. 3, covered by an aluminimum plate 4. The
plate 4 may also have a peripheral channel or slot which is
used for collecting and removing fats or spilled liquids.
The lower portion 2 has three small legs 8 depending
therefrom for seating the same. The upper portion 3 is pro-
vided with a refractory glass window 7 to enable observation of
food being cooked or baked. Handles 9 are provided to assist
in opening the oven and for carrying the oven.
The two portions 2 and 3 are joined together opposite the
handles 9 by means of hinges 10. Connectors 11 are provided
for connection to the heating resistances for supplying
electrical power thereto.
The oven may be used for broiling meats which may be
directly placed on the plate 4, or refractory molds or con-
tainers may be placed on this plate if cakes or other kinds
of food are to be baked.
Although a circular shaped oven is illustrated, the oven
; 25 may have other configurations, such as oval, square or
rectangular, as desired. Also as shown, the lower portion
2 is slightly higher than the upper portion or cover 3, but
these relative heights may be varied especially for broiling
poultry, for example, when it is desirable for the upper
portion 3 to be higher.
Various other modifications may be made without departing
from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended
claims.
