English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A conveyor of the belt-type in which an endless band
of rubber or like yieldable material is displaced along a clos-
ed path while being supported along opposite longitudinal edges
of the belt. According to the invention, these edges are for-
med with support ribs having exclusively planar support sur-
faces in their orientations in which they are supportingly en-
gaged by the rollers and the rollers which support these ribs
are cylindrical. The ribs may be attached to the edges of the
belt or formed unitarily therewith.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A belt-type conveyor comprising:
a support;
and endless conveyor belt displaceable along said support
and having a pair of opposite continuous longitudinal edges
each formed with a support rib having a downwardly turned
planar running surface and an inwardly turned guide surface
forming an angle of less than 90° with said running surface;
a plurality of cylindrical running rollers spaced along
said support and having cylindrical surfaces supporting the
running surfaces of said ribs; and
a plurality of cylindrical guide rollers spaced along
said support and engaging said inwardly turned guide surfaces.
2. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein at least
an upper stretch of said belt has a sag curve, said running
rollers being disposed in the region of the sag curve at
upper edges of said belt.
3. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of said
ribs is of triangular cross section with a surface of the rib
corresponding to one side of the triangle secured to said belt
and another side of said triangle forming said running surface.
4. The conveyor defined in claim 3 wherein the triangle
is a right-angle triangle and said rib is formed by a profile
strip with a hypotenuse of the triangle bonded to the belt and
the short leg of the triangle forming said running surface.
12

5. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each rib
is formed by a profile strip of trapezoidal cross section
with one of the nonparallel sides of the trapezoid being
bonded to said belt and the larger base of said trapezoid
forming said running surface.
6. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein a pair
of said ribs are of trapezoidal cross section, each rib of
said pair being formed on an opposite edge of said belt
with one of the nonparallel sides of the trapezoid
forming said running surface.
7. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs has at least a pair of steps, each step being
supported on respective running rollers.
8. The conveyor defined in claim 7 wherein the steps
of each rib are formed upon a single profile strip secured
to the belt.
9. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein a pair of
profile strips of mirror-symmetrical cross section are dis-
posed opposite one another and sandwich the respective edge
of said belt between them.
10. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed with a profile strip having a thin ex-
tension lying along the belt.
13

11. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is provided with at least one reinforcing insert.
12. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is provided, parallel to its running surface,
with a reinforcing insert immediately above the running
surface.
13. The conveyor defined in claim 12 wherein said
insert forms a unit with a reinforcement extending through
the respective rib.
14. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed by a profile strip having a surface
secured to said belt and is provided with a reinforcing
insert embedded in said strip adjacent said surface.
15. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed from the same material as said belt.
16. The conveyor defined in claim 15 wherein said
belt is formed unitarily with said ribs.
17. the conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed as a profile strip having a surface con-
tacting said belt, said surface being provided with an array
of teeth in cross section, for increasing the attachment of
said strip to said belt.
14

18. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed as a profile strip adhesively bonded
to said belt.
19. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein each of
said ribs is formed with a pair of profile strips releasable
secured to said belt.
20. The conveyor defined in claim 19, further com-
prising bolts securing said strips to said belt.
21. The conveyor defined in claim 19 wherein said
strips are constituted of a material different from that of
said belt.
22. The conveyor defined in claim 1, further comprising
movable mounting means between each of said guide rollers and
said support.
23. The conveyor defined in claim 22 wherein each
running roller is mounted on the arm of a double-arm lever
having another arm carrying a respective guide roller, said
lever being pivotally connected to said support.
24. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein said belt
is provided with transverse stiffening.

25. The conveyor defined in claim 24 wherein said
transverse stiffening is greater in the region of said
edges than at a central region of said belt.
26. the conveyor defined in claim 25 wherein the
transverse stiffness of said belt is dimensioned so that
upon loading of the upper stretch thereof, a force PF is
generated which applies the running surface with a moment
PF ° B/2 to the running rollers, where B is the width of
the belt.
27. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein said
belt is formed with at least one inextensible longitudinal
insert.
28. The conveyor defined in claim 27 wherein said
longitudinal insert terminates short of the edges of the
belt provided with said ribs.
29. The conveyor defined in claim 28 wherein said
belt passes over a pair of drums at opposite ends of the
conveyor, the axial width of each drum corresponding to the
width of said insert.
30. The conveyor defined in claim 28 wherein said
insert comprises two layers of strands at a bias to one
another.
16

31. The conveyor defined in claim 30, further com-
prising a longitudinal reinforcement embedded in said belt
at the center thereof.
32. The conveyor defined in claim 30, further com-
prising a longitudinal reinforcement embedded in said belt
along said edges thereof.
33. The conveyor defined in claim 1 wherein said
edges are separate form the remainder of said belt and said
conveyor further comprises means for securing said edges to
said belt.
