ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
Cicatrized human skin is treated by applying, at
a derma level of a scarred area underlying the cicatrized skin,
a low-frequency non-ionizing variable electric field for a
predetermined time while simultaneously applying an aqueous
proteinic solution made of tissue-regenerating extracts to
a surface level of the scarred area, so that the scarred area
is located between the electrical field and the solution, there-
by provoking a reaction leading to proteinic synthesis. The
solution, prior to application to the skin, is subjected to
a chemical and electric pretreatment which comprises exposing
the solution to an electrolysis reaction for a number of days
and subsequently applying a low-frequency alternating electric
field to the solution for a number of days. The procedure
eliminates or decreases discontinuities in the skin caused
by cicatrices, lesions and intradermal tears.


Claims

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A composition for use in the treatment of cicatrized
human skin by the simultaneous application, at a derma level
of a scarred area underlying a cicatrized skin, of a low
frequency non-ionizing variable electric field and said
composition, said composition comprising an aqueous proteinic
solution made of tissue-regenerating extracts which has
been subjected to a chemical and electrical pretreatment
which comprises exposing the untreated solution to an
electrolysis reaction for a number of days to effect the
formation of amino-acid groups and subsequently applying
a low-frequency alternating electric field having a fre-
quency below 10,000 Hz to the electrolytically-treated
solution for a number of days to form clusters of ionized
molecules
2. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein said
aqueous solution consists of extracts of embryonic placenta,
collagen and vitreous humour.
3. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein, after
an initial partial electrolysis reaction, said solution has
had introduced thereto an additive selected from the group
consisting of vitamins, metals and mixtures thereof.
4. A composition as claimed in Claim 3 wherein said
vitamins are E, C, H or PP and said metals are zinc,
magnesium or cobalt.
5. A composition according to any one of Claims 2 to
4, which is diluted with "acqua fontis" in a volume pro-
portion of 1:1000.

SOLUTION OF TISSUE-REGENERATING EXTRACTS TREATED
ELECTROLYTICALLY AND WITH ALTERNATING
ELECTRIC FIELD

The present invention relates to preparations useful
in the electrochemical treatment of skin.
As is well known, in the normal skin the fibrils ~f
collagen have a cons~ant dimension and run parallel to one
another, while, in scars, fibres or fibrils of different
di~ensions extend in all directions. From a histological
point of view, a vibex, or intradermal tear, is the external
portion of a dermic wound and, subsequently, o~ a dermic
cicatrix.
Various methods are known for promoting the regenera-
tion of open skin tissue (lesions) or partially broken
tissues, as in the case of vibices and the like, consisting
for example of:
(a) applications of vegetable extracts;
(b) "ustion" with high frequency electric waves;
(c) plastic surgery;
(d) exposure to an electromagnetic field and concurrent
treatment with irradiated water.
All of these methods, some of which are difficult
and painful to apply, have shown themselves to be only
partially effective or entirely ineffective, particularly
in the case of vibices.
Such methods as exposure to weak electric fields or
application of saline or amine solutions, protein and
embryonic tissues, have been found absolutely ineffective.
Starting from theoretical presuppositions and as a
result of a great deal of experiments and trials, it was
found, according to the present invention, that an effective
stimulation of the cicatrized skin can be obtained, with

fo~mation of an "organized" tissue, that is with fibres
- parallelly and compactedly arranged, restoring the tissue
continuity, by the utilization of an electrochemical treatment
using an aqueous proteinic solution of tissue-regenerating
extracts.
It i5 well known that the stage of passing over to
cell reproduction requires a failure drop of internal cohesion
and activation of proteinic synthesis, namely an increase in
the concentration of the S-H groups (primary factors of
proteinic synthesis). It is considered that all these changes
are caused by an alteration in b~lance between electron "donors"
and "receivers" which facilitates a breakdown between S-S and
disulphide lin~s and formation of active S-EI links.
It is known that the S-S links have a degree of energy
equivalent to about 63KCal/mol, while that of the S-E links have
an energy equivalent of about 87 KCal/mol.
It has been found that, in an electric or magnetic field,
a solution of polypeptides forms clusters of rectilinear
molecules, oriented in the direction of the field in respect
of their bipolar moment. Each cluster is composed of poly-
merized molecules parallel to the direction of the electricfield.
The needed energy is applied as a double electric field,
the first one to the surface level of the skin and the second one to
the dermic level is supplied by the cicatrized skin which is
stimulated causing a breakdown of the S-S links and formation
of S-H links.
A proteinic solution made from tissue regenerating
extracts is applied to the surface layer of the skin while
simultaneously applying the first electric field.

The solution, which includes a substance existing in
the skin itself, may be prepared from a composition of embry-
onic placenta, collagen and vitreous humour extracts diluted
with distilled water or "acqua fontis". This solution
is subjected to a treatment preceding its application to a
cicatrized skin.
The pretreatment of the solution includes an electro-
lysis process which lasts for several days (about 5). An
electrolysis reaction is set up in the solution by two gold
electrodes connected to a square wave electric ield generator.
A low frequency alternating electric field is then applied
to the solution for another period of several days (about 5)
at a frequency below 10,000 Hz.
The substances in-the solution are split up by the
partial hydrolysis into groups o~ amino acids. By applying
the electrical field, clusters of molecules are formed in the
solution and a successive electrical excitation (ionization)
of the most active groups with an increased electrical moment
of the molecules themselves.
The second electric field is obtained by applying to
the scarred area of the skin a low frequency, alternating
electric field, so as to give an electric charge to the
layers underlying the lesions. The effect of such a double
electric field is that the molecules forming the solution and
those in the electrically charged layers of the skin react
together producing something very like an electromagnetic
"mirror" effect and involving the skin in this reaction
throughout its whole depth.
The experimental results obtained in a large number
of experiments and embodiments fully correspond to the~r-
etical considerations or formulations and there was found the

formation of an effective "organized" tissue with compact-
. edly paxallelly arranged skin fibers and removal or reduc-
tion of cicatrices and lesions.
The invention is described further, by way of
illustration, with reference to the accompanying drawings,
wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of apparatus
for effecting electrochemical treatment of skin,
Figure 2 is a block diagram of the electronic
circuits used in conjunction with Figure li
Figure 3 is a schematic representation of apparatus
for effecting extract solution production;
Figure 4 is a block diagram of the electronic
circuits used in conjunction with Figure 3; and
` Figures 5 to 12 are photographs of skin illus-
trating the effectiveness of the treatment using the solution
of the invention.
As shown in Figure 1, the apparatus which effects
tne skin treatment using the solution is accommodated within
a container or housing 10 and has a switch 11 for connection
to a mains system, an associated warning light 12, a knob
13 for voltage changes in the range of 1 to 9 volts, and
six outputs 14 carrying the electric current to six pairs
of electrodes 15 covered with sponge.
The block diagram for the electronic circuits
is shown in Figure 2. A transformer 16, connected to the
mains, supplies a sinusoidal wave generator 17, with a
maximum voltage of 9 volts, the frequency of which is auto-
matically and cyclically varied by an automatic frequency
change circuit 18 under the control of a timer 19. The

puts 21 through a signal attenuator 20. A display 22 (also
shown in Figure 1 at 23) shows the effective voltage values.
: By means of the above described circuits, the frequency
is automatically changed over a period of 60 seconds
in the range of 1.5 to 4.0 KHz, or to other values,
as required.
In Figure 3, there is illustrated apparatus for
carrying out solution preparative treatment. The apparatus
is accommodated within a container or housing 24 and has
a switch 25 for connection to a mains system and an associa~
ted warning light 26. A pushbutton or key 27 is shown for
changing from a square wave field to a sinusoidal wave field.
Knobs 28 and 29 actuate frequency and voltage regulators,
respectively. Outputs 30 are connected to the pairs of
electrodes for solution treatment. The block diagram of
the electronic circuits shown in Figure 4 has a trans~
former 31, which is connected to the mains and supplies
a sinusoidal and square wave generator 32. The signal
passes from the latter to a signal attenuator 33 and then
to the pairs of outputs 34.
In the utilization of the treatment apparatus
of Figure 1, the electrodes 15 from the electric field
generating apparatus are applied as opposing pairs to the
edges of the zone to be treated. By using one half of the
maximum voltage ~4 or 5 volts), the skin is charged with
a weak electric field for 20 to 30 minutes. The electrodes
are then removed and the part or zone is wetted with a few
ml of solution. The applications are effected
three times a week. The first results will appear after
1 or 2 months.

Further improvements in the solution may be achieved
from the following:
- addition to the solution o small amounts (1 - 2 x 1,000)
- - ?~ ~r~
~1~ of glycine and~me-t-ki~e in order to assist the formation
of the S-H groups;
- dilution of the solution with 1/3 vol-vol of double
distilled glycerine after the electrical and chemical treat-
ments, in order to achieve an even film on the skin;
- addition to the solution after the initial phase of partial
electrolysis of catalysts corresponding to the following two
groups: vitamins (traces of E, C, H, PP) and metals
~inc, magnesium, cobalt and other ions).
A large number of skin treatments have been carried
out using the solution of the invention, some of which have
been documented by photographs taken before and after treat-
ment. Some of these photographs appear as Figures 5 to
12 as proof of the results obtained. The photographs are itemized

In all of the photographs, the results are apparent
with effective disappearance or substantial reduction in
vibices and cicatrices.

Within the craters, still visible after treatmenk,
the filling up thereof can be seen as effected by parallel
fibers, that is corresponding to an undoubted "organized"
tissue.
The above shown photographs, as well as all the
experiments and embodiments hitherto made, confirm the
.~ validity of the invention and all of the resulting advantages.

herein described by mere way of unrestrictive example, it
should be understood that any equivalent application of the
disclosed inventive concept and any equivalent product is
within the invention.
