English Abstract

ABSTRACT
When having to hold a book to read from, for long periods
of time, without the aid of a desk to rest it on, one's hands
become cramped and tired, and when one hand must be used to
turn a page, make a note in the book or gesture, the book,
being held by one hand, can become unstable and awkward to
retain in a readable position. A loose-leaf note-book, which has
been used in the drawing, is a most difficult book to handle
under these conditions.
The device I have invented eliminate this problem.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A fixture, fastened to the front and back outside
covers of a book, designed to hold the book open at a pre-
determined readable angle, at the same time providing a grip
to hold the book rigidly open at this angle by ore hand, com-
prising of two rails, one fastened to the outside of the front
cover and one fastened to the outside of the back cover, and a
pivot wedge with tapered ends, fastened to the outside of the
centre section of the book, this wedge when turned crosswise,
at right angle to the book, engages the V' inside edges of the
rails, holding the book open at a readable angle, the wedge,
when turned in line with the book allows the book to be fully
openned or completely closed.

SP~CIFICATIONS
In drawings which illustra-te embodiments of the invention,
Figure 1 is a view with a loose-leaf note-book open, the two
rails A are attached firmly to the outsides of the front and
back covers of the book, in predetermined positions, the pivot
wedge ~, which turns in either direction to any desired
position, is turned to right angle to the longtitudinal axis of
the book. 'rhe chamfered ends of the pivot wedge B engages the
V'd inside edges of the rails A. Using the rails A as a hand
hold, the book can be held firmly and comfortably open at a
10. desirable degree for reading with one hand, leaving the other
hand free.
Figure 2 is a view with a loose-leaf note-book closed,
showing the pivot wedge B turned parallel to the longtitudinal
axis of the book. The pivot wedge B in this position allows the
book to be carried or stored in a closed position or fully open-
ned to remove or add pages.
