English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
The present invention provides a multi-piece
bottle having a lower jar portion and a separable
capped upper funnel portion. In a fully assembled
condition the bottle provides a closed container with
a narrowed neck and with the funnel portion removed
the jar portion is accessible or complete emptying
and reuse thereof.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY
OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A multi-piece food bottle comprising a lower broad-mouthed
jar portion having an upper end provided with external
threading, an upper funnel portion having a lower end which is
internally threaded for removably threading with said jar
portion, a seal member supported on said jar portion
immediately beneath said threading against which said funnel
portion seals when threaded to said jar portion, said funnel
portion having an extended neck region for the storage of foods
within said bottle and said bottle when assembled providing a
closed container with said funnel portion being removable from
said jar portion for easy access to said jar portion to enable
substantially complete emptying of said bottle and reuse
thereof.
2. A multi-piece bottle as claimed in claim 1 wherein
said jar portion has a mouth opening of a standard size for
receiving a standard sized threaded jar lid.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

1. FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a bottle which is
formed of three independent pieces allowing easy
access to the interior bottle and later reuse of the
5. bottle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
With some foods, such as ketchup and the like, it
is necessary due to the chemical properties of the
food to construct the food containers or bottles with
10. a narrowed neck region; however, due to this bottle
shaping it is often awkward, if not impossible to
completely empty the contents of the bottle,
particularly since the reduced neck prevents access to
a large spoon or the like to the base of the bottle.
15. In addition these bottles having a narrowed neck are
generally not suited for reuse due to the small
diameter mouth on the bottle as well as the difficult
access to the interior of the bot-tle.
SUMMARY OF TOE PRESENT INVENTION
20. The present invention provides a multi-piece
bottle which overcomes -the drawbacks mentioned above.
The multi-piece bottle of the present invention
comprises a lower broad-mouthed jar portion an upper
funnel portion for removably securing with the jar
25. portion and a capping member for removably capping the
funnel portion The multi~piece bottle of the present
invention when assembled and capped provides a closed
container with a narrowed neck particularly suitable
for storing foods such as ketchup and the like and
3D. with the funnel portion removed from the jar portion
provides easy access to enable substantially complete
emptying and reuse of the bottle.

1. BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE DRA~JINGS
. . . _
The above, as well as other advantages and
features of the present invention will be described in
greater detail according to the preferred embodiments
5. of the present invention in which:
Figure 1 is an assembled perspective view of a
multi-piece bottle according to a preferred embodiment
of the present invention.
Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the
10. bottle shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view showing separate
use of the lower jar portion of the bottle of Figures
1 and 2.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PREFERRED
15. EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The multi-piece bottle of the present invention
comprises a lower jar portion 1, an upper funnel
portion 5 and a capping member 13. In the embodiment
shown in the drawings, the funnel portion threads onto
20. the jar portion with the capping member in turn
threading onto the funnel portion. The jar portion is
; provided with a seal or gasket 17 which seals against
the funnel portion and the cap will be provided with
its own interior gasket material as is well known in
25. the art to provide a complete sealing of the bottle
when the pieces are assembled as shown in Figure 2.
In this assembled condition the bottle can easily be
used at the manufacturing level for containing certain
food products such as ketchup or the like which, due
30. to their chemical make-up require storage in a
container having a reduced diameter neck as indicated
at 9 on funnel portion 5. However, as can well be
appreciated, as the bottle begins to empty it is
difficult to clean the contents from the bottom of the
I, 35. bottle and according to the present invention, the
funnel portion 5 is easily unthreaded from jar portion
1 making it easy to get access through the large
threaded mouth 3 of the jar to the bottom of the
bottle.

. 3 .
1. When the bottle has been emptied it is
particularly suited for reuse, which is again a
feature of the multi-piece construction ox the
bottle. In one embodiment the lower wide-mouth jar
5. is, as shown in Figure 2, sealed by means of the
funnel portion with its threaded cap. The funnel
portion can of course be easily removed, again
permitting access through the wide mouth of the jar to
the bottom of the bottle.
10. In another embodiment a separate lid may be
provided for sealing the jar as shown in Figure 3.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present
invention the jar portion is constructed with a
relatively standard size mouth for receiving a
15. standard size threaded lid which could, for example,
be found on a regular coffee jar, or the like and
fitted to the jar of the present invention.
Different constructions for the multi-piece bottle
of the present invention can be provided. According
20. to one of these constructions the lower jar portion and
the upper funnel portion are constructed from glass
with the sealing gasket between the two portions and
the cap formed from either a plastic or a metal
material. According to a further construction, the
25. entire bottle may be made from a light weight plastic
material or the like.
Although various Preferred embodiments of the
present invention have been described herein in
detail, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the
30. art, that variations may be made thereto without
departing from the spirit of the invention or the
scope of the appended claims.
