disturbances in operation.
I~ i6 known to use so-c~ d compact step ele~ents
i.e., unit~Ly dle cast s~ep el~mant~ mada o an
aluminium alloy. These are 6t~0nger and lighter than
com~o~ite step elements but have the di~dvantage of
requiring replacement of the entire ~tep elemant in th~
2n event of damaye to the ribbing on the ou~ide edge~ of
the tread ~urface, a relatively elaborate and expensive
op~ration.

inserted in the -tread plate, is at a distance from the outside
thereof, forms part of the tread plate tread surface and is rigidly
attached to the tread plate by additional securing means.
In accordance with the present invention there is
provided a uni-tary die cast tread element for a moving pavement or
escalator, the tread element having a tread plate to receive the
person to be transported, the tread plate having secured to its top
surface a nosing along at least one of its longitudinal edges, in
which -the nosing engages below a part or embraces the outside edge
of the tread plate along at least -the outside one of the two longit-
udinal edges of the nosing and is rigidly secured to the top sur-
face of the tread plate between the two longitudinal edges of the
nosing by additional securing means.
Claims 19 to 23 set out convenient further developments
of this subject of the invention.

th~rein, this con~tructlon i~ particul~rly sui~ahle ~or
compact tread elements ~roduced as a~ alumi.nium alloy
die ca6tin~, where anchorag~ ~acilitie6 o~ this ~ind can
be pro~ided relatlvely simply.

can be us~d, such aa plastics anchorage pins which are
formed on the no6inqs cr the lika and wh;ch, af~er th~3ir
~ntroduction into corre~Dondingly pre shaped bore~ in
the tt~ad element, are deformed ~t the end projecting

p].ate 2 and dlspoGed at a dis~ance ~rom lts o~tside
wall. The latter nosings ~orm a p~rt o~ the t~ead plate
tread ~u~face and hava ~he s~me width pi~ch ~ ~he
latter and ampli~y it6 r~b~ continuou~ly to ~orm cib~
extencling over the entire tre~d ~ur~ace. The no6ing~
