ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A blow-molded bottle-shaped container of biaxially
oriented thermoplastic synthetic resin which comprises
a pair of recesses depressed inwardly on the right and
left side parts of a rear half portion substantially at
the central height position of a cylindrical container
body to form a grip in width to be grasped by one hand.
Thus, the bottle-shaped container can enhance the
buckling strength of a grip integrally molded by
providing reinforcing ribs at the grip by molding a pair
of recesses at the rear halves of the body thereof for
the grip having a width capable of grasping with one
hand.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A blow-molded bottle-shaped container of biaxially
oriented thermoplastic synthetic resin comprising:
a cylindrical container body defining a longitudinal
center line and having a shoulder and neck portion at an
upper end thereof and a bottom portion at a lower end
thereof;
a pair of recesses depressed inwardly on opposite sides
of a rear half portion of the cylindrical container body
substantially at a central height position of the
cylindrical container body to form a grip to be grasped by
one hand, said recesses including tapered parts disposed
oppositely with respect to said longitudinal center line and
having inclined surfaces substantially inclined in a
direction from the rear half portion of said container body
toward a center thereof and a plurality of longitudinal
strips formed on said recesses.
2. The container according to claim 1, wherein a notch is
formed in the bottom portion at the rear half portion of the
cylindrical container body and circumferentially extended
between the recesses.
3. The container according to claim 1, wherein a plurality
of parallel circumferential reinforcing rib grooves are
formed in the grip between upper and lower limits of the
recesses at a predetermined interval and extended between
the tapered part of one recess and the tapered part of the
opposite recess without extending into the recesses.
4. The container according to claim 1, wherein X-shaped
reinforcing ribs are projected from the entire surface of
the tapered parts of the recesses.

5. The container according to claim 5, wherein rib strips
are projected along said X-shaped ribs at upper and lower
parts of the X-shaped reinforcing ribs and at a rear part of
the tapered parts of the recesses.

2 BOTTL~-SHAPED CONTAINER
4 This invention relates to a blow-molded bottle-
shaped container of biaxially oriented synthetic resin
6 such as polyethylene terephthalate resin.
7 Blow-molded bottle-shaped container of biaxially
8 oriented thermoplastic synthetic resin such as
9 polyethylene terephthalate resin have bben widely used.
Since the bottle-shaped containers are blow-molded from
11 biaxial-orientation synthetic resin, it is considerably
12 difficult to integrally form a ring-shaped grip, and
13 must be associated as a grip with other member made o~
14 a cardboard or synthetic resin at a rectilinear
cylindrical body.
16 ~oweverJ the bottle-shaped containers of this
17 type have such disadvantages that complicates steps
18 are required in molding, costs increased and insufficient
19 strength is incorporated.
In order to obviate the difficulty of holding the
21 bottle-shaped container of this type, a bot~le-shpaed
22 container in which a pair of recesses are formed at
23 parts of the body of the container to construct a grip
24 by the both recesses has been developed. Since the grip
is molded together with the body at biaxial-orientation
26 blow molding time, the bottle-shaped container of this
27 type can be readily molded to provide excellent holding
28 effect, but the grip portion communicates with the body
~9 in a hollow state and the bottle-shaped container is
blow-molded in a considerably thin wall body.

1 Thus, the grip is feasibly deformed when the body is
2 grasped by inserting ~ingers into both the recesses
3 of the container body to be anxious to hold the container
4 body.
SUMMARY VF THE INVENTION
6 Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to
7 provide a blow-molded bottle-shape~ container of
8 biaxially oriented synthetic resin which can eliminate
9 the drawbacks and disadvantages of the conventional
bottle-shaped container with both recesses for a grip
11 described above and can enhance the buckling strength of
12 a grip integrally molde~ by providing reinforcing ribs
13 at the grip by molding a pair of recesses at the rear
14 halves of the body thereof for the grip having a width
capable of grasping with one hand.
16 The foregoing object and other objects as well as
17 the ~haracteristic features of the invention will become
18 more fully apparent and more readily understandable by
19 the following description and the appended claims when
read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
21 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF 1'HE DR~WINGS

9 DESCRIPTION_OF THE PREFE~RED EMBODIMENTS
As shown in Fig. 1, a blow-molded bottle-shaped
11 container l o~ biaxially oriented polyethylene
12 terephthalate resin is molded with a cylindricai
13 container body 4 integrally through a shoulder 3 with
14 a short cylindrical neck 2, and with a bottom 5 formed
at the lower end of the container body 4 together with a
16 pair of recesses 6 depressed inwardly oppositely at both
17 the right and left sides of a rear half portion
18 substantially in the central height position.
19 A grip 7 remains to be molded at the rear half
portion of the container body 4 by forming the pair of
21 recesses 6 as described above, and the bottle-shaped
22 container l can be held by grasping the grip 7 by
23 disposing fingers in both the recesses 6 thus depressed
24 inwardly at both the right and left sides o~ the rear
half portion
26 Therefore, the pair of recesses 6 for forming the
2? grip 7 must be disposed at the position in shape for
28 effectively and conveniently grasping the grip 7 by the
29 fingers inserted into the recesses 6.
More particularly, the recesses 6 must have axially

1 longitudinal length of the degree capable oY disposing
2 at least four fingers except a first finger and the
3 shape readily applying a force when grasping the grip 7
4 by inserting the first finger into one recess 6 and the
other four fingers into the other recess 6.
6 As described above, as shown in Fig. 2, the tapered
7 parts 8 of the recesses 6 are disposed oppositely with
8 respect to the center line passing in the longitudinal
9 direction at the container body 4 as a center in the
lateral cross-sectional shape of the container body 4 in
11 such a rnanner that the tapered parts 8 are inclined
12 slightly inwardly from the rear end of the container
13 body toward the center so that the interval between the
14 both tapered parts 8 is set to a predetermined numerical
value for readily grasping the grip 7.
16 For exarmple, assume that the numerical value of the
17 interval between the both tapered parts 8 at the rear
18 end of the container body 4 is represented by d and the
19 numerical value of the interval at the center of the
container body 4 is represented by d1, the both values
21 always have a relationship of d> d1 since the tapered
22 parts 8 are inclined.
23 The concrete nurnerical values d and d1 are
24 determined depending upon the shape of the bottle-shaped
container 1 such as a circular-sectional cylindrical
26 shape or a square- or polygonal-sectional cylindrical
27 shape, or the capacity of the container body. For example,
28 in case of d=83 cm, d1-77 cm, in case of d=83 cm, d1=84 cm,
29 in case of d=77 cm, d1= 71 cm are experimentally obtained
as desired intervals.

2 are formed on the tapered parts 8 so that the faces of
3 the fingers may be readily engaged in case of grasping
4 the grip 7.
Further, a crescent-shaped notch lO is formed at
6 the rear end of ~he lower end of the bottom 5 of the
7 container body 4 perpendicularly to the radial center
8 line so as to always direct the grip 7 formed at the
9 rear end in a predetermined direction in case of
conveying the bot~le-shaped container 1 via a conveyor.
Il Fig. 4 to 6 show a second embodiment of this
12 invention. In the second embodiment, the bottle-shaped ~ -
13 container 1 is molded in the same manner as the first
14 embodiment, but a pair of relatively wide recesses 19
are formed from the slightly rear portions frem the
16 center of both sides of the container body 4 over the
17 rear end.
18 The tapered parts 15 of the recesses 19 are opposed
19 to each other to form a grip 16 at the rear o~ the
container body 4 by the both recesses 19.
21 Further, upper and lower rib grooves 17 are formed
22 circumferentially at the rear end of the grip 16, i.e.,
23 on the peripheral surface of the container body 4 for
24 forming the grip 16. The tapered parts 15 of the
recesses 19 are opposed substantially in parallel in
26 such a manner that the interval at the center is
27 ' siightly smaller than the interval at the rear and a
28 plurality of longitudinal anti-slip strips 18 are formed
29 on the tapered parts 15.
Thus, since the rib grooves 17 are formed on the

1 rear end o~ the grip 16 ~ormed by oppositely forming a
2 pair oi recesses 19 on parts oX the container body 4,
3 the tapered parts lS are not inwardly deformed even if
4 the grip 16 is grasped by the fingers to eliminate the
S external swelling deformation of the rear end of the
6 container body but can be remarkably readily grasped by
7 the fingers.
8 Further, since the tapered parts 15 are narrowed
9 at the interval at the center as compared with the
interval at the rear end, the tapered parts 15 are
l1 inclined from the rear end toward the center. Thus, the
12 grip 16 may be feasibly grasped by the fingers.
13 As described above, since the rear end of the grip 16
l4 is formed in the state hardly deformed even if pressures
are applied from both sides, the i~ter~al between the
16 rear ends of the tapered parts 15 is not narrowed, but
17 the inclining shape of the tapered parts 15 may be
18 maiDtained.
19 ~igs. 7 and 8 show a third embodiment of the
invention.
21 A bottle-shaped container 21 of this embodiment
22 is molded with recesses 24 formed at both sides of a
23 cylindrical container body 22 with tapered walls 26
24 inclined toward the less tapered walls of central
portion of the container body 22 to form a grip 27 at
26 the rear of the container body 22.
27 , The less tapered walls 25 of the both recesses 24
28 are projected substantially in X shape over the entire
29 height and entire width of the less tapered walls 25 to
form reinforcing ribs 29.

1 The ribs 29 are projected in X shape o~ capital
2 alphabet~c X to form more anti-slip strips so as to
3 resist against the pressure applied to the less tapered
4 walls 25 and further to ~orm rip strips 28 projected
along the ribs 29 at the rear of the grip 27 to iurther
6 aid reinforcing of the less tapered wall 25 of the
7 recesses 24.
8 The rib strips 28 are not formed on the front of
9 the X-shpaed ribs 29 because thep part to be disposed
with fingers is provided in case of grasping the grip 27
11 by the fingers so as to perform higher anti-slip effect
12 ~ by engaging the fingers with the ribs 29 to readily
13 grasp the grip 27 by the fingers.
14 According to the present invention as described
above, the bottle-shaped container of this invention can
16 be much stably grasped by the fing~rs the.-reiDforcing
17 ribs resist the internal and external pressures acted on
18 the recesses if the bottle-shaped contained is dropped
l9 in the state that the content li~uid is filled in the
bottle-shaped container to cause impact internal
21 pressure to rise in the container to act strong internal
22 pressure to the recesses, or if the grip is grasped in
23 the heavy state that the content liquid is filled to act
24 strong external pressure to the recesses, the recesses
are not bent nor projected to be drformed outward or
26 inward, ~hus~ the mechanical strength of the entire
27 bottle-shaped container can be remarkably increased.
28 Since the grip is molded integrally with the bottle-shaped
29 container, relatively large bottle-shaped container can
be readiiy handled. Since the construction of the
