English Abstract

CASE 2286
"GAS REGULATOR-MODULATOR FOR WALL BOILERS"
Abstract
Gas regulator-modulator for wall boilers, wherein
the regulation and the modulation is obtained by means of
the electrical current circulated through a coil movable
inside a fixed magnet integral with the shutter-membrane
of the regulator.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an
exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as
follows:
1. Electromagnetic device for regulation and
modulation of a gas in wall boilers, comprising:
- a shutter integral with a regulator membrane
adapted to shut the flow of gas from a first duct to a
second duct;
- means for firmly keeping said shutter in
position;
- a coil fastened to said membrane,
- a stationary magnet integral with a guide
cylinder facing said coil, said coil being adapted to slide
perpendicularly to said membrane inside said stationary
magnet guided by said guide cylinder.

Description

1. CASE 2286
"GAS REGULATOR-MODULATOR FOR WALL B~ILERS"
The present invention relates to an electromagnetic
device of a high s~ructural simpleness and hence very
cheap and very easy to be serviced, which allows both the
regulation and the modulation to be carried out, by means
of the same members, with a high linearity, and hence
reliability, as well as rapidity of response to the
commands of control of the flow rate of such combustible
gases as methane or the like, in such small and medium
thermal capacity equipment such as wall boilers, heat
generators, and so forth.
From the prior art several types of such dev;ces are
already known, but all of the known devices presently
ava;lable from the market resuLt complex, bulky and
expensive, constituted by many components to be
assembLed, which therefore render complex their
maintenance; furthermore, the gas pressure regulation is
obtaîned by means different from those used for the
modulation of the same gas pressure, with consequent
further complications.
Furthermore, the adoption in them of calibrated
bores and low-diameter passages easily subject to get
fouled, renders them not much reliable and furthermore
they show high friction and hysteresis values, which do
not allow a high linearity~ or a rapid response.
The purpose of the present invention i5 prec;sely
that of obviating the above-said drawbacks, and of
supplying hence a gas regulator-modulator device wh;ch ;s
extremely reliable, simple and not bulky~ and,
cor~sequently, cheap, and ~h;ch allows extremely precise

processes, so that it can be made from cast aluminum.
The said result is substantially achieved by
taking advantage of a principle never used in this field,
viz., the setting of the outlet gas pressure (the set point)
by means of a mobile coil and a stationary magnet, what
enabled the present Applicant to combine the functions of
pressure regulator and of modulation valve. In other words,
the outlet gas pressure is regulated and modulated as a
function of the electrical current circulating through the
mobile coil.
According to the present invention, there is
provided an electroma~netic device for régulation and
modulation of a gas in wall boilers, comprising:
- a shutter integral with a regulator membrane
adap-ted -to shu-t the flow of gas from a first duct to a
second duct;
- means for firmly keeping the shutter in
position;
- a coil fastened to the membrane;
- a stationary magnet integral with a guide
cylinder facing the coil, the latter being adapted to slide
i~ perpendicularly to the membrane inside the stationary magnet
guided by the guide cylinder.
The very good characteristics of this electro-
magnetic device are in fact obtained by exploiting the
repulsion force which is generated between the mobile coil
and the magnet, which is directly proportional to the
current flowing through the same coil, so that also the
force which loads the membrane and, consequently, the
shutter, and which determines the value of the outlet gas
pressure will be directly proportional to the said current
flowing through the coil.

variants may always be supplied without exi-ting the scope of
the present invention.

In said drawings:
Figure 1 sho~s a partially cu~away perspective vie~
of the electromagnetic pressure regulator accord;ng to
the ;nvention, incorporated in a gas unit with the safety
electrovalve and the on-off valve;
Figure 2 sho~s a longitudinal sectional view, on a
different scale, of the gas unit of Figure 1.
Referring to the Figures, ~ith 1 the safety
electrovalve is indicated, which is provided downstream
the filter 2, in the nearby of the inlet port 3 of the
gas unit, so to control the outflow of the gas from the
duct 5 to the duct 6, said ducts being provided inside
the monobloc of aluminum or of another material.
The outlet 7 of the gas unit is then controlled by
the on-off valve 8, which controls the outflo~ of the gas
from the duct 9 to the outlet port 7.
~; ~ Finally, the outflow of the gas from the said duct 6
to the duct 9 is controlled by the electromagnetic
regulator-modulator device 10 of the present invention~
2D which comprises a shutter 11 integral with a membrane 12,
~hich is kept in ~is position by means of the body 13
fastened onto the monobloc 4 by means of the screws 140
Onto said membrane 12 a mobile coil 15 is
furthermore fastened, which can slide perpendicularly to
the same membrane inside a stat;onary magnet 16J so
gu;ded by the guide cylinder 17 ;ntegral ~;th said
magnet.
The t~o ends 18 and 19 of the electrical ~inding of
~- ~ the movable coil 15 are finally brought to the outside of
said magnet 16 for an easy connection.
