ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A fish attractant solution comprising a mineral oil or water base, a fishscent, and an amine base. The solution is alkaline, having a pH above 7, and
preferably used on fishing bait and lures to improve their effectiveness in
attracting fish.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A fiish attractant composition comprising;
a) a base composition making up approximately 80-95% by
weight of the composition;
b) a fish scent composition comprising approximately 1-20% by
weight of the total composition and wherein the fish scent
composition is selected from the group consisting of anise oil,
cod oil, menhaden oil and herring oil;
c) an amine base composition comprising approximately 0.25-5%
by weight of the total composition and wherein the amine
base composition is selected from the group consisting of
methylamine, propylamine,
n-amylamine, benzyamine, morpholine, triothanolamine,
butylamine, benzyl ethanolamine, benzyl dimethyamine, benzyl
isopropylamine, dimetylamine, etylamine, butylamine,
isobutyamine and triethanolamine morpholine; and
d) wherein the compositions are combined so as to yield a total
composition having a pH of approximately 8.
2. The fish attractant composition of claim 1 wherein the base
composition includes a mineral oil composition.
3. The fish attractant composition of claim 1 wherein the base
composition is water.
4. A fish attractant composition comprising: a base composition

making up approximately a 90-95% by weight of the total composition; a fish
attractant composition making up approzimately 5-10% of the total
composition; and a pH controlling alkaline composition making up
approximately 0.25-1% by weight of the total composition and wherein the pH
controlling alkaline composition concontributes to establishing the pH of the total
fish attractant composition to a pH level of approximately 8-12 and above.
5. The fish attractant composition of claim 4 wherein the pH
controlling alkaline composition is an amine base composition.
6. The fish attractant composition of claim 5 wherein the amine base
composition is taken from the group consisting of methylamine, propylamine,
n-amylamine, benzyamine, morphine, triethanolamine, butylamine, benzyl
ethanolamine, benzyl dimethyamine, benzyl isopropylamine, dimetylamine,
etylamine, butylamine, isobutyamine, triethanolamine and morpholine.
7. The fish attractant composition of claim 6 wherein the fish scent
composition is taken from the group consisting of anise oil, cod oil, menhaden
oil and herring oil.
8. The fish attractant composition of claim 7 wherein the amine base
composition contributes to establishing the pH of the total composition to a
range of approximately 8.
9. The fish attractant composition of claim 8 wherein the base
composition is taken from the group consisting of mineral oil and water,

making up approximately 80-99% of the total composition; a fish scent
composition making up approximately 1-20%; a pH establishing base

composition making up approximately 1-20% of the total composition; and
wherein the pH of the total composition is established at a range of
approximately 8-12.

BACKGROUND OF 1~ INVENIION
The effectiveness of a fishing lure or bait in attracting fish can
be substantially improved by applying a fish attractant to the lure or bait. In
the past, fish attractant solutions were used that contained a mixture of
ingredients that formed solutions having an acidic pH of about 5.5.
Essentially, it is desirable for an artificial lure to simulate as
many characteristics as possible of a particular bait fish. It is in this regard,

that over the past years fishermen have used what is referred to as a fish
attractant solution or composition. I~rpically, an artificial lure or other type of
bait is exposed to the fish attractant solution by 'rwetting" or saturating the !~
lure or the bait with the fish attractant composition.
It is postulated that the pH of a bait fish can be an important
factor in attracting other fish. It is particularly believed that the pH of the
surface slime or substance is important in attracting fish. In this regard, it is
speculated that when balt fish are excited by pursuing fish that the surface
slime or substance gives off a solution that is of a similar pH as found in the
surface slime on the bait fish. It is suspected that this product greatly excites

the pursuing fish.
It is true that pH concerns have been expressed in the fishing
art. For example, U.S. Patent Nos. 4,578,889 and 4,697,371 disclose a system
for determining changes in pH in the water itsel But these patents do not
show or teach the concept of providing a fish attractant composition having a
pH of a selected range, especially a range away from the acid side towards the
alkaline or base side.
SUMMARY AND OBJECrS OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is an improved fish attractant solution with
a mixture of ingredients which form an alkaline solution which is closer to the
natural alkaline pH of natural fish bait. The fish attractant is comprised of a
mineral oil or water base, a fish scent composition, and an amine base
composition. The fish scent used in the solution can be chosen from anise oil,
cod oil~ menhaden oil, and herring oil, etc. The amine base composition can
typically be chosen from triethanolamine, morpholine, or combinations of
these amine bases.
Preferably the pH of the total composition should be
approximately 8-9, but in any event, at least on the alkaline side.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a fish
attractant composition that is designed to yield a composition with a specific
pH range.
Another object of the present invention resides in the provision
of a fish attractant composition that is provided with constituents that tend to
control and establish the pH of the total solution along the alkaline side, that

is a pH of above 7.
Still a further object of the present invention resides in the
provision of a fish attractant composition that includes an amine base
composition that specifically acts to establish a pH fGr the total solutîon of
approximately 8-12.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a fish
attractant composition that will effectively mask human scents which tend to
be acidic. The pH adjusted fish attractant of the present invention will
neutralize human oils that may be present on an artificial lure.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will
become apparent and obvious from a study of the following description which
are is illustrative of such invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPIION OF THE INVEN IION !
The present invention entails a fish attractant composition that is
typically used on artificial fishing lures to attract fish. In the present case, the
composition comprises what is referred to as a base or vehicle composition
which is typically rnineral oil or water. Typically, this base or vehicle
composition would comprise approximately 80-99% of the total composition.
Next, the composition includes a fish scent or fish flavor
composition that would typically comprise 1-20% of the total composition, and
preferably would comprise 5-10% of the total composition. The fish flavor or --
scent composition would typically be anise oil, cod oil, menhaden oil, herring
oil, or other fish related or fish equivalent oils. ~ -

controlling solution that is aimed at controlling the pH of the total solution
within the range of approximately 8-12.
Generally, this pH contributing or regulating composition would comprise
approximately
1-20% by weight of total composition. But preferably this composition would
comprise approximately 0.25-1~o by weight of the total composition.
In a preferred embodiment, the pH contributing or controlling
composition would be an amine base composition or some composition that is
of a character that will drive or control the total composition towards the
alkaline side of the pH scale. In the case of amine bases, one could use
triethanolamine or morpholine. Other amine bases are as follows:
methylamine, propylamine, n-amylamine, benzyamine, morpholine,
triethanolamine, butylamine, benzyl ethanolamine, benzyl dimethyarnine,
benzyl isopropylamine, dimetylamine, etylamine, butylamine, and
isobutyamine.
The following is a number of examples of the fish attractant
solution of the present invention:

It is appreciated that the various fish flavor and scent
compositions can be combined as well as the various amine bases. Also, it
should be appreciated that the fish attractant of the present invention could
be used in both salt and fresh water fishing.
From the foregoing specification and discussion, it is appreciated
that the present invention entails a fish attractant composition that aims at
providing a total composition with a selected pH range, a pH range that is
directed towards the alkaline side of the pH scale (i.e. approximately 8-12).
This pH range is ideal for simulating bait fishing.
The present invention may, of course, carried out in other ~;;
specific ways than those herein set forth without parting from the spirit and
