English Abstract

THE LEWIS ADVERTISER
ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE
This invention is a multi-purpose information display and
advertising device. The disclosure reveals a frame assembly
consisting of an upper and lower portion riveted together on
the centre line to form a rectangle with three separate areas
corresponding in size to the width of the display sheets and
creating a space in between the upper and lower portions of
the frame to receive the display sheets. The rivets act as
stops and guides for the display sheets. One end of the frame
has removable hitch pins and clips so that the display sheets
may be inserted and removed. A frame support handle is
attached to the end frame members by means of a pivoting
hinge, so that when it is pulled out it will support the frame
in a free standing position. Four brackets containing plastic
suction cups are welded to the frame cross members. On the
opposite side of the frame assembly there are magnetic strips
attached to the outer face of the back portion of the frame.
This device may be used to display pictures, script, or
facsimiles of objects. Information display sheets may be
inserted and removed easily by removing the hitch pin and
clip. The device is versatile and may be mounted and
dismounted instantly on virtually any surface. The device is
compact enough to fit into an envelope or in a briefcase.

This invention is a multi-purpose information display
device ~r an advertising sign consisting of a combination of
different means and ways of mounting and displaying
information instantly including pictures and script
information.
The device has many useful applications. But its
greatest financial benefit would be in the area of sales. One
of the main difficulties a salesman has is keeping his
merchandise and information about it in the public eye. The
more exposure to the public the product receives, the greater
the chances of completing a successful sales transaction, and
in the case of a commission salesperson, for example a real
estate agent, this becomes crucial. When a real estate agent
lists a property for sale, his main objective is to expose the
property with as much detail as he can and to as wide a public
sector as he can thereby greatly increasing his chances of
informing prospective buyers about the home for sale and
conseguently securing a purchaser and be paid his commission.
At present, the agent is limited to placing a sign on the lawn
of the property for sale, the disadvantage being that the
prospective buyer has to come into that particular street to
see the sign. The Agent may also advertise the property in
the daily newspapers but this is expensive and therefore the
advertisement is short and the timé exposed is short. The
agent may walk from door to door and distribute flyers but
thi- is very time consuming. Lastly, the agent will speak to
colleagues and friends and will also do some phone solîciting
but this too is very time consuming.
This invention will present the real estate
practitioner with an invaluable, additional advertising tool
which is uperior to the other means of advertising in many
way~. This invention will display both the picture of the
house and the actual listing information, or other information
the agent wishes to di-play within the centre section of the
device. The top section displays the event, example ~house
for ale" or ~open house", etc. The bottom section displays
the person to contact and the phone number. This invention
therefore presents the prospective buyer with complete
information. New information may be entered into the device
by merely sliding one display sheet out and sliding another
in. This invention gives maximum exposure to the public at
minimum cost. The agent may suspend the device on a post as
a regular lawn sign using the suction cup bracket hooks. The
agent may place the sign in his car and display the house and
information on the windshield or the windows by utilizing the
suction cups; wherever the c:ar goes the house will be seen,
twenty our hours a day. Tlle agent may choose to place the
~ign on the outside of his car utilizing the magnetic strip
on the device, again, wherever the car goes the house will be
~een twenty four hours a day. The agent may choose to mount
the sign on the wall in the passageway of the office; the
suction CUp8 allow him to do 80 . The agent may decide to
display the home on his desk or on the receptionist's desk,
by merely pulling the support handle out the device becomes
free standing as a picture on a desk. The agent when he is
finished with the sign may keep it in an envelope or in his
briefcase, it is 80 compact.
This ig an instant versatile sign and all operations
are performed in seconds.

THE LEWIS ADVERTISER - SPECIFICATION ~Cont'd) ~ ~ 2 ~
Figure 1 and ~igure 2 are drawing~ which illustrate
one embodiment of the invention. Figure 1 i~ a front
elevation of thi~ embodiment. Figure 2 is a side elevation
of thi~ embodiment.
The advertising device or sign illustrated, reveals a
riveted and welded frame construction comprising a top portion
and a bottom portion which are identical in configuration and
assembled creating a ~pace in between the top and bottom
portions to accept display ~heets. Variou~ attachments are
welded or riveted to the frame.
In this embodiment of the invention, the upper portion
o the frame consists of four cross members 1~ 2, 3 and 4 made
from 1/2" x 1/8" bar stock. The cross members are spaced to
correspond with the width of the display sheets required and
lie parallel to each other. Two end members, 5 and 6 are
butted to the cros~ members to form a rectangle having three
separated areas. The butt joints are then welded together to
make the top portion of the frame rigid. The bottom portion
of the frame 7 is constructed in the identical manner. The
top and bottom portions of the frame are then placed on top
of each other with removable 1/8" spacers in between the two
frames. The frames are then drilled on the centre line of the
members 1, 2, 3, 4, S and 6 and riveted using 1/8" rivets 8
~typical). The top and bottom frames now become one rigid
construction and the 1/8" spacers are removed. One side of
the end member~ 6 i8 drilled only and instead of using pop
riv~t~, removable hitch pins 10, 12 and 14 and hitch pin clips
9, 11 and 13 are installed to facilitate insertion and removal
of the advertising display sheet~
Four suction cup retaining brackets 20, 21, 22 and 23
are welded to the frame members 1 and 4. The plastic suction
cups 16, 17, 18 and 19 are then pressed into position in the
retaining brackets 20, 21, 22 and 23 by finger pres-ure.
These cups are capable of supporting the device by suction.
A strip of soft permanent magnetic material 24 is
glued to all members on the back face of the device, this
magnetic material is capable of supporting the device by
magnetic attraction.
A frame support handle 25 made from 3/32" diameter
round stock is formed 80 that it sit~ on the inside perimeter
of the end members 5 and 6 and just above the plastic suction
cups 16 and 17 which traps the support handle 25. Thel ends
of the ~upport handle are bent into an "L" shape fashion with
the very end portion 26 and 29 being bent backwards at 45 - to
act as a stop for the handle 25. The two ends of the frame
support handle 25 pivots between a handle pivot bracket hinge
27 and 28. The hinges are ~ecured by four short pop rivets
30, 31, 32 and 33. By pulling the handle 25 pa88 the suction
cup~ 16 and 17 the handle moves approximately 45- from the
face~ and the stops 26 and 29 make contact with the frame and
members 5 and 6 and the device is then supported in the free
standing position as would a picture frame on a desk.
