FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an animal hat with
an adjustable neck strap for fitting to different sizes of
animals.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is becoming more and more vogue for pet owners
to dress their animals. For example~ jackets and boots for
dogs and cats are widely available.
SU~MARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The new innovation to extend the line of clothing
for pets is an animal hat. The animal hat of the present
invention comprises a cap portion, ear wraps to either side
of the cap portion and a neck strap extending between the
ear wraps. The neck strap itself includes at least one
elasticized region to accommodate fitting to different sizes
of animals.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PR~FERR~D
EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
Figures 1 and 2 show an animal hat generally
indicated at 1. In Figure 1, the animal hat is fitted to a
dog in a manner which makes it very difficult for the dog to
remove the hat which the dog initially is likely to try to
do. However, after wearing the hat for a very short period,
the dog or whatever other pet the hat is fitted to will
usually find the hat quite comfortable and give up on its
attempt to knock the hat off. ~
~ ;
The hat itself comprises a cap portion 3 having a
reinforced rear edge 4. The cap portion includes a soft
bonnet region which sits directly on the animals head ana a
forwardly extending visor portion as best shown in Figure 1 ~
of the drawings. `
Extending from the side edges of the visor portion
back to the reinforced rear edge of the cap p~rtion are a
pair of ear wraps 5, one on either side of the hat. An ear
fitting opening 7 is provided between cap portion 3 and each
of the ear wraps 5. When the hat is place~ on the pet, the
pet's ears will fit up through openings 7 as shown in Figure
, 1 of the drawings.
The hat further includes a neck strap 9. This neck
; strap is formed by neck strap portions 11 and 13 which are
provided with a releasable fastener and in this case, a
VELCRO fastening system for opening and closing the neck
strap to allow its fitting around the pet's neck. The two
neck strap portions 11 and 13 are secure~ to the hat et the

juncture of ear wraps 5 and reinforced cap portion 4.
Therefore, the neck strap when closed as shown in Figure 1
extends between the two ear wraps 5 beneath the animals neck
as seen in the drawings.
One of the keys to the present invention is the
provision of an elasticized region in the neck strap. In
the embodiment shown, strap 9 includes a pair of elasticizea
regions 15, one to each side of the VELCRO fastening
system. These elasticized regions allow for fitting of the
neck stràp to various different sizes of pets and while
providing a very comfortable fitting ensure that the neck
strap which effectively holds the cap in position is snug
around the animal's neck.
.
Although various preferred embodiments of the ~-
invention have been described in detail, it will be
appreciated by those skilled in the art that variations may
be made without departing from the spirit of the invention -~
or the scope of the appended claims.
