English Abstract

DEVICE FOR CORNER DESIGN ON WALLS COVERED WITH CERAMIC TILES
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
The invention relates to a device for the
completion of a corner on walls covered with ceramic
tiles or similar material, in which two, or usually
three, angled profiles are brought together at right
angles. There are attachment shanks on each angled
profile which are provided with cut out openings and can
be laid under the ceramic tiles. The profiled finishing
shanks which are approximately in the shape of a quarter
circle flush finish and outline the corresponding ceramic
tiles. A transition profile is provided between the
finishing shanks of the angled profiles which are brought
together in the corner area.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention
The invention r~lates to a device for the
completion of a corner on walls covered with ceramic
tiles or similar material, in which two, or usually
three, angled profiles are brought together at right
2. The Prior Art
To finish ceramic tile coverings on walls and
on floors, angle profiles made of stainless steel are
known. These can be attached or laid under the ceramic
tiles, in the mortar bed, or in a layer of adhesive, with
their attachment shanks, which are less than 1.5 mm thick
and are provided with breaks, without increasing the
total thickness. A profiled finishing shank with a
cross-section approximately in the shape of a quarter
circle forms the flush finish and the limit of the tile
edges. It forms the finish with an end-side angled part
directed towards the attachment shank; it protects the
tile edges and gives the tiled area an optically pleasing
look.
These angled profiles are also used to make
corners in ceramic tile coverings brought together at

~, ;, !,
right angles. In this case, a part of each tile edye is
left without a finishing angled profile in the area of
the corner. For this uncovered corner area, an L~shaped
transition profile with equal shanks is proposed, which
is formad by bending a profile which corresponds in its
outside contours to the quarter-circle-shaped profile
finishing shank, after suitable slitting in the corner
area. This transition profile has a short attachment
shank. It is glued onto the wall substratum in the
uncovered corner area, and forms the flush transition
between the tw~ or three angled profiles laid under the
corresponding ceramic tiles in the corner area. ;~
Such a transition profile has a bent, slit
corner area, which is not very pleasing in appearance.
It is difficult to produce. In many cases, it is not
possible to attach it to the wall substratum to a suffi-
cient degree.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the invention to provide a
corner completion device for use with walls covered with
ceramic tiles and, in doing so, to improve the necessary ~;
transition profile with regard to its attachment pos- ;
sibility and the rounded transition to be created.
The above object is accomplished, in accordance
with the present invention, by providing a device for
completion of the corner construction on walls covered
with ceramic tile comprising at least two angled profiles
brought together at right angles; each angled profile
having an attachment shank whi~h is provided with an

opening extending through the shank and which can be
placed under th~ ceramic tiles; the angled profile having
a profiled finishing shank having a radius; the profiled
finishing shank having an outside contour beiny ap-
proximately in the shape of an arc extending through a
quarter circle; the profiled finishing shank limiting the
corresponding ceramic tile placed ad;acent thereto; a
transition profile being provided between the finishing
shank of the angled profile which is brought together at
the corner; the transition profile having approximately
the shape of an eighth of a sphere; the transition pro-
file having a radius which corresponds to the radius of
the outside contour of the finishing shanks; an insertion
projection formed on at least one flat side of said
transition profile; and the insertion projection in-
sertable into the finishing shank of an angled profile on
the front side of the angled profile.
The present invention makes it possible to
bring together the angled profiles to form the completed
corner at right angles, and to leave only a small area
open when doing so. The transition profile fills this
corner area forming a flush, rounded finish. It is
securely held in place in the finishing shank of an
adjacent angled profile, by means of at least one inser-
tion projection. The use of additional adhesive is
usually not necessary.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Other objects and features of the present
invention will become apparent from the following detail-
ed description considered in connection with the accom-

panying drawing which discloses one embodiment of thepresent invention. It should be understood, however,

tion only, and not as a definition of the limits of the
inven~ion.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERR D EMBODIMENT
Turning now, in detail, to the drawings, FIG. 1
shows a corner construction and appearance with a ceramic
tile wall covering, in which three ceramic tiles 1 are
brought together vertically. There are three profiles 2,
with one used on each of the edges forming the corners.
These are placed and attached in the layer of adhesive

under the ceramic tiles 1 with their attachment shanks 21
shown with broken lines. The transition profile 3 is
placed in the corner area betwe~n the angled profiles 2
brought together vertically.
As is evident from FIGS. 2 and 3, an angled
profile 2 comprises the longer attachment shank 21, which
is less than 1.5 mm thick, which has shaped cut outs 211
being provided at intervals. Adhesive can flow through
openings 211 to bond together the tile to the wall with
the profile 2 bonded to both the wall and the tile. The
finishing shank 22 has a cross-section approximately
shaped like an arc being a quarter circle or 90~. At the
free end of shank 22, an angled piece 221 is formed and
faces towards the attachment shank 21. The height of the
finishing shank 22 is adapted to the thickness of a
ceramic tile in each case, so that after installation of
such an angled profile, a flush transition rounded to-
wards the outside is formed.
The transition profile 3 shown in FIGS. 4 and 5
has approximately the shape of an eighth of a sphere, the
radius R (FIG. 5) of which corresponds tG the radius R
(of FIG. 3) of the outside contour of a finishing shank
22 of an angled profile 2. An insertion projection 32 is
formed on at least one flat side 31 of this transition
profile 3, by means of which the transition profile can
be affixed in the finishing shank 22 of an adjacent
angled profile 2, preferably with a clamping effect.
This clamping effect results from a force fit relation-
ship between projection 32 being squeezed by contact with
the inner surface of the shank 22 as it is inserted
therein.
-- 5 --

When forming a corner, the finishing shanks 22
of the angled pro~iles 2 each abut against the ~lat sides
311 of the transition profile 3.
Essentially, the same corner construction and
appearance are also possible with angled profiles 2 whose
finishing shanks 22 ars not formed completely in the
arcuate shape of a quarter circle, for example, if they
ara of elliptical shape. In this case, the transition
profile 3 is given a corresponding contour, which allows
a flush, rounded transition between the anyled profiles
which abut vertically in the corner area.
It is advantageous, due to simple installation,
to hold the transition profile 3 with a clamping force in -
the finishing shank 22 of an adjacent angled profile 2,
with only a single insertion projection 32. However, the
possibility also exists of providing two such insertion
projections 32, which are at right angles to each other.
For the sake of appearance, the transition
profile 3 can be given a different color from the ad-
jacent angled profiles 2.
While only a single embodiment of the present
invention has been shown and described, it is to be
understood that many changes and modifications may be
made thereunto without departing from the spirit and
scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. `;
