Cxoss-current swimming and ~iltering device namely for
swimming pools.
More particularly~ the ~evice relate3 to a cempact ~loc~ with
one part i~merse~ in the water, taking the filte~lng meana and
one p~rt outside of ~he ~wimming pool t~ t~ke ~he di~ferent
ele~t~ al component~ and pumping means. This block can, for
examp~e, be the of the type described in the patent FR
831824~, the applicant ~f which is also the holder.
It ha.~ ~een plan~ed to equip these compact blocks with a
system likely to ~re~te cross-o~rrent swimminy, aim~d at
delivering the water into the ~wimming pool with a ~el~tlvely
high rate o~ flow~ These systems are al~o and advantageously
~ed in hydrotherapy.
In order to obtain this re~ult of fo~ced w~ter circulation, a
pump with a h~ ~h r~te of flow of 4~ to 50 m3/hou~ can be used.
Howeve~, thi~ sol~tion i~ unsatis~actory sin~e it calls ~or an
expenslve pump. ~esides, the so-callecl cros~-current s~i~ning
operation, i~, in this ca~e, continuous and constant, which ls
not necessaxy when only the reger.eration of the swimmln~ pool
wa~e~ is required.
In order to over~o~e the~ disadvantages, it was planne~ to
equip the block with a second, parallel-mounted pump, the
delive~y pipe of which is connected to the wat~r circ~lat~on
~ump pipe. Thi~ st~te o~ ~he art can be illustr~t~d by the
teachln~ o~ the patent FR ~Sl7201.
It there~ore appears n~es~ary to have two pumps whiah results
in substantial cost and volu~e ~s called ~or ~y a relatively
complex unit. Figure 1 shows an e~o~i~ent o~ a comp~ct block

fitted with two pu~np~ and the correspon~ing ~ni~ neces~ary to
obtain ~he two operatlons corresponding to a no~mal
circulation of water and a forced circul~t:lon ore water for
cro~s-current swimming.
The ~nventlon i ~imed a~ overcomin~ these di~advantageY in a
particularly simple and ef~icient manner.
The p~oblem the lnvention intends to solve is ~o simplify the
design lnside ~he cornpact block a5 much ~s possible gi~ing
highly ~lexi~le operation so as ~o ob~ain, at will, either the
circul~tion and renewal o th~ water, in a conventional rnanne
and at a low rate of ~low, or a higher rate of ~lo~ ~or c:ro~-
current ~w~ m~ning .
T~is problern i~ overcome by a cross-currerl'c swi.mming and
filte~ing de~ice namely for swim~ing pools, m~unted in a
compact block with one part immersed ln ~he water and on~ part
outside of the swim~ing pool, the part ~mmer~ed in the w~ter
t~king filterin~ Inean~, the par~ o~lt~ide of the water bein~
equippe~ with a two~~peed p~mp, connectecl to any control ~neans

Gon~ination wlth ~he ~iltering mean~ so as to provide, ~
wi~l, accordln~ to ~he speed O:e the said pump, the circ~ tlc~n
of the w~ter through filtering means, with or witho~k cro ~-
current swimmlng~
Another pro~le~ the in~ention ~n~ends ~o solve is to ~lw~ys
~irculate the w~ter through ~iltering means, regardle~s o~ the
operating cycle sel~cted, with o~ withou~ Gro~-current
swimmin~
This typ~ of prohl~m .is overcolne in that the pump i~
connec~ed, ~ir3~1y, ~o the suction pipe ~ooper~ing with ~he

flltering mea~s ~nd, ~econdly, a pipe d~liverin~ the water
into the pool.
The device ha~ a particularly adv~nta~eous a,ppllcation in the
event where the ~iltPring means ~re made ~rom a textile
~rticle made ~p o~ at least one laye o~ non-woven material
with flltering capacities, the said article i~ designed to
tnake up a pocket or ~leeve, open at one end and clo~ed at the
othex, this article being mount~d inside an open ~upport in
communica~ion with ~he liquid and linked to the suction ~n~
delivery system of the pump.
The in~ention is now descri~ed in detail with the help o~ the
~t~ched drawing~, in wh.ich :
~igure 1 i~ a per~pective vi~w showing ~n e~bodiment of a
compa~t ~lock accordin~ to the ~tate of the art, fitted with
two p~mps to pro~ide thP cir~ulation of the water and cro~-
Gurrent sw~mming.
Figure 2 is a perSpeCtive vie~ o~ the same block fitted with a
device ~ccording to ~he invention to provide the cir~ulation
o~ the water o~ ~ross-Current ~wimming,
Figure 3 is a sec:tional v~ew o~ ~he block fitted with the
device according to the invention.
As stated, the device is ~esigned to ~e mo~n~ed inside a
compact filtering hlock re~erred to as ~l). In ~ known manner~
this block coTnprises one p~rt (la) immerse~ ln the water and
one p~rt ~lb) ~rranged outsl~e the ~wimming pool. E'or example,
~his block can ~e in an up~ide down U-~thape in or~er t:o
s~cra~clle 'che e~ge of the swilwnin~ pool.
Besides, still in a known manne~, ~he part immer~e~ in the
water (la) takes ~iltering means (5) and ean have a projeo~or,

pump is namely of the eleGtrical type and is conne~ted to any
control me~ns so ~s to be dri~en, a~ will, at a low speed ox
high speed, acco~dl~ to the operating cycle ~e5i~ed, as ~o be
indicated in the ~ollowing description.
The control means of the pump can ~e ar~anged at any area,
pos.~i~ly ~lose to the block ~ o a~ to be ac~essible to the

Acco~ding to another characteristic, the two-spee~ p~mp 12) is
connected to ~u~tion (~) an~ ~elive~y (4) pipes arranged in
~ombina~ion with the ~iltering means ~5). Namely, a.s ~hown in
.figures 2 ~nd 3, the pump (~) is connected, ~irstlyr to the
suction pipe (3) cooperati~g wath the Pil~ering means ~5) and
secondly~ to the pipe ~) likely to deliver ~hs water to the
pool.
In an advantageous manner, the filtering ~eans (S) are made
~ro~n a tex~ s article, ~omprised of at lea~t one layer of
non-woven mate~ial with ~ erin~ capacities. This article is
designed to ~ke up a po~ket or sleeve(5) open at one end an~
clos~d at the other. The pocket ~5), thus ob~ained, is ~ounted
inside a support (~) arranged inside par~ ~1a) o~ ~he block
i~erse~ in the wate~. This ~upport is ln communication with
the liq~id and ~onne~ted to the suction and delivery ~s~em o~
the pump (2). In parti~u~r, the suction p~pe (3) of the pump,
is arr~nge~ in.~ide part ~b) of ~he block so as to be in
comm~nication with the support (~ taking the fl~terlng pocket

For in~ormation~ th~ p~mp is driven at ~ speed of
approxlmately, 1,4S0 rpm, corresponding to a x~te of ~low o~
continous water r~newal ~y~le.
In order to obtain th~ ~ross-cur~ent swl~ming ef~ec~, pump (2)
i~ ~riv~n ~t ~ speed of ~pproxima~elY ~800 rpm which
~orresponds to a rate of ~low of 48 m3/hour.
The advantages are made clearly apparen~ from the description.
The fvllo~ing i3 part:lc~llarly highligh~ed ;~nd reminded: the
simplicity of the design ~hanks to the use o~ only one pump,
