English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
An action figure has a base of sufficient size and
the figure itself is of sufficeint rigidity to stand the
figure upright. The figure further includes a magnetic
backing and therefore in addition to being standable on a
horizontal support surface is attachable to a vertical
metallic surface.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

- 4 -
THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. An action figure having a base of sufficient size
to stand said figure upright in the action position and
said figure having a magnetic backing which extends
rearwardly at least as far as said base such that said
figure in addition to being standable on a horizontal
support surface is attachable to a vertical metallic
surface.
2. An action figure as claimed in Claim 1, having a
flattened rear surface covered by said magnetic backing.
3. An action figure as claimed in Claim 1, having a
flattened forward surface and a pictorial representation of
a sports character thereon.
4. An action figure as claimed in Claim 3, having a
pictorial representation of famous sport character on said
forward surface.
5. An action figure as claimed in Claim 1, having a
flattened region along said base of said figure.

TITLE: RIGID MAGNETIC ACTION FIGURE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an action figure
which can either be stood up on a horizontal support
surface or magnetically attached to a vertical metallic
surface.
sAcKGRou~N~D QF THE INVENTION
Over the last few years, there has been a
tremendous increase in the popularity of sport cards.
', Typically, these cards are displayed by purchasing a
; separate stand much like a stand up picture frame in which
the card is mounted. The cards will not stand up on their
own.
"
It is not desirable to display sport cards on a
vertical surface since this would necessitate damage such
as fitting of a pin through the card.

3 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
n action figure made in accordance with the
~ present invention provides an alternative to a standard
j sports card or the like. The figure has a base of
' 25 sufficient size and the figure is of sufficient rigidity to
stand the figure upright on its own in the action position.
The figure further includes a magnetic backing which
extends rearwardly at least as far as the base so that the
figure is additionally attachable to a vertical metallic
surface without the base of the figure interfering with the
attachment.
Accordingly, the action figure which preferably
bears the representation of a famous sports figure can be
displayed on a horizontal surface without the requirement
for additional stand up supports and can be further

displayed on a vertical surface without having to penetrate
or otherwise damage the figure.
BRIEF DESCRIPTIQN OF THE DRAWINGS
The above as well as other advantages and features
of the present invention will be described in greater
detail according to the preferred embodiments of the
invention in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an action figure
standing on its own on a horizontal support surface.
Figure 2 is a side view of the figure of Figure 1
when attached to a metallic support surface for the figure.
DETAIL~D DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT~
The drawings show an action figure generally
indicated at 1 which is fixed in its action position. In
this particular case, the figure is formed from a body such
as wood, plastic, etc, which has sufficient rigidity to be
self supporting and includes a front surface having a
pictorial representation of a hockey goalie in a shot
stopping position or stance. Although not discernable from
the drawings, the goalie or other character appearing on the
front face of the figure will typically be a representation
of a well known or famous sport character typical of the
characters appearing on sports cards. However, in the
I embodiment shown, unlike sports cards, action figure 1
j rather than being bordered by a rectangular surface is
actually cut in the outline of the character.
Also unlike a standard sports card, Figure 1 has a
relatively substantial depth as indicated at 3. This depth
in combination with the fact that the figure is rigid or at
least relatively rigid and has a base 5 which is flattened
along at least a substantial part of the bottom of the
figure enables the figure to stand up on its own on a
horizontal support surface 6 as shown in the drawings.

2~3~
SJ-8579-92 - 3 -
Sports action Figure 1 has a rear surface which
includes a magnetic backing 7 as also seen in the drawings.
The magnetic backing is located to the extreme rear of the
figure, i.e. rearwardly of the base 5, so that the figure
can further be attached to a vertical metallic surface 8
without any interference from the base of the figure.
AS Will be appreciated from the above, the action
figure of the present invention can be displayed on a
horizontal support surface where it stands on its own or it
can be displayed on a vertical metallic surface without
have to penetrate or otherwise mark the figure.
I It will be further appreciated, that although
various preferred embodiments have been shown in detail, it
is to be understood that variations can be made without
departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of
the appended claims.
