CAST COVER INVENTION 2 .
SPECIFICATIONS
This invention relates to a protective cover for plaster or
fibreglass casts, bandages, or exposed body parts of an
injured or disabled person which will seal the body or body
part(s) from moisture, debris, and/or light, and/or any
other element.
Moisture to casts and bandages can come from bathing,
showering, swimmlng, and natural weather when unprotected or
covered crudely with plastic bags and tape. By becoming
wet, casts rapidly disintegrate, ruining their structural
lntegrity which is vital to the proper healing of fractured
bones. Wet bandages can invite bacteria and infection to
the affected body part.
I have found that these disadvantages may be overcome with
use of the CAST COVER. Use of this device would reduce the
replacement of casts and bandages, lowering medical costs,
reducing environmental waste, and most importantly
malntaining the health, hyglene and well-being of the
ln~ured or disabled person. The CAST COVER would allow more
freedom for it's user to stay clean and protected.
Thls device may be distributed from hospitals and clinics
after applicatlon of a cast or bandage, or sold from stores
to~the~individua} for homej recreation, or work use. It may
also be used by health care proféssionals on location in
proper body maintenance of the patient. Further, it may be
used for~protectlon by burn victims, people with skin
conditlons, or any other case necessitating protection from
~ the elements. These are a few but not necessarily the only
; ~applications for this invention.
The~CAST COVER is to be~constructed of substances at the ~ -
discretion of the manufacturer.
These include: Plastic, latex, rubber, or other man-made or
organlc substances or combination of the aforementioned that
can keep out moisture and debris while allowing movement and
, easy application. The sealing device will create a water-
tlght seal around the skin of the user above and/or below
the afected area utilizing an elastic seal with a velcro
~fastener that has a base which will stop molsture
penetratlon, and can ad~ust to the particular slze range.
The length of the CAST COVER would be proportional to each
slze and application, but could be produced with extra
Iength since this would have no effect on the seal, and
would ensure complete coverage. - -~
