English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
The invention is directed to a method and
apparatus for treating wastepaper, wherein a
selective flotation of suspension in a selective
flotation system is carried out in multiple calls.
Flotation froth is fed to hydrocyclone which
produces two fractions, with a core fraction
including lightweight particles and gas being
drawn from the core and discarded, preferably at
the upper end, and with a heavy fraction recycled
to the selective flotation system.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A method of treating wastepaper,
comprising the steps of:
providing a selective flotation system
having a plurality of flotation cells;
removing flotation froth from at least
one of a first and second flotation cell of said
plurality of flotation cells;
separating or purifying flotation froth
from the remainder of said plurality of flotation
cells with a hydrocyclone, said hydrocyclone
providing a core fraction and a heavy fraction,
said core fraction comprising lightweight
particles and gas, said heavy fraction comprising
relatively fewer contaminants than said core
fraction;
drawing said core fraction from an upper
end of said hydrocyclone; and
recycling said heavy fraction from a
bottom end of said hydrocyclone to said first
flotation cell of said selective flotation system.
2. The method of Claim 1, wherein said
removing step comprises discarding said flotation
froth removed from said first and second flotation
cells.
3. The method of Claim 1, comprising the
further step of separating or purifying said
flotation froth removed from said first and second
flotation cells with a second hydrocyclone, said
second hydrocyclone providing a core fraction and
a heavy fraction, said core fraction comprising
lightweight particles and gas, said heavy fraction
comprising relatively heavier particles and fewer
contaminants than said core fraction;
drawing said core fraction from an upper
end of said second hydrocyclone; and

recycling said heavy fraction from a
bottom end of said second hydrocyclone to said
first flotation cell of said selective flotation
system.
4. The method of Claim 1, wherein said
recycling step comprises recycling said heavy
fraction from a bottom end of said hydrocyclones to
said first flotation cell of said selective
flotation system, via a mixing chamber.
5. An apparatus for treating wastepaper,
comprising:
a primary flotation system having a
plurality of flotation cells;
means for removing flotation froth from
at least one of a first and second flotation cell
of said plurality of flotation cells;
a hydrocyclone connected to a remainder
of said plurality of flotation cells for
separating or purifying flotation froth from said
remainder of said flotation cells, said
hydrocyclone providing a core fraction and a heavy
fraction, said core fraction comprising
lightweight particles and gas, said heavy fraction
comprising relatively fewer contaminants than said
core fraction, said hydrocyclone including a drain
pipe connected to said first flotation cell for
recycling said heavy fraction to said primary
flotation system.
6. The apparatus of Claim 5, wherein said
drain pipe is connected to said first flotation
cell via a collection vessel and a mixing chamber.
7. The apparatus of Claim 5, further
comprising a second hydrocyclone for separating or
purifying said flotation froth removed from said
first and second flotation cells, said second
hydrocyclone providing a core fraction and a heavy
