English Abstract

ABSTRACT
This is a lighting device for a patio umbrella. In the first variation,
the wiring is on the outside of the post, to allow for the retrofit of existing
umbrellas. In succeeding variations, the wiring is inside the post; built in
at the time of manufacture. The power ring is attached to the top of the
main post, inside the umbrella. Four neon light tubes are attached in a
vertical position to the power ring. The power ring is attached by electric
wire to an on/off switch which is positioned on the umbrella winder
housing, on the opposite side to the winder: the switch, in turn, is
attached to a 12 volt system (either rechargeable battery or step down
transformer). This device can be manufactured for any diameter of main
post and any style of umbrella which has sufficient clearance at the top of
the umbrella

CLAIMS
"The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege isclaimed are defined as follows:"
1) An electrical lighting device for the illumination of patio umbrellas, which
attaches at the top of the main post inside the umbrella. The device is attached to
by electrical wire to a switch on the back of the winder housing, or in the type of
umbrellas which have no winder housings, the switch is attached directly to the main
post. The switch, in turn, is attached to the power source by electrical wire.
2) A lighting device as defined in claim 1, which uses neon light tubes.
3) A lighting device as defined in claim 1, which uses 110 volt AC or 12 volt
DC. The 12 volt DC is the more preferable power source.
