English Abstract

A rapid button attaching, self locking, plastic lever-latch
which is used to attach buttons and/or to sew and mend.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is
claimed and defined as follows:
1) The mending kit, the use of which allows for a means to attach and secure a
button-shaped fastener onto clothing and material and/or to sew, mend and bind clothing and
materials(s) and/or to attach buttons and/or other accessories onto clothing andmaterial(s),
the mending kit consists of:
a lever-latch fastener that has bottom lever hinged to a top lever,
the bottom lever having an upward face, and inside edge and an underside edge, an
indent in the underside edge of the bottom lever,
the top lever having an inside edge and an underside edge, the top lever inside
edge is hinged to the inside edge of the bottom lever,
a multiple toothed attaching line that has two ends, one end extends from the
bottom lever of the lever-latch fastener and the other end is a tip,
the upward face of the bottom lever has an indent that is the reciprocal opposite, in
shape, to that of the said multiple toothed attaching line,
the multiple toothed attaching line has, at its tip, an open core that extends into a
small expanded head,
a needle having two ends, proximate one end an opening is formed, the peripheraledge of said opening, thins in width, to become a side slotted opening that extends of the
proximate end of the needle,

the expanded head of the multiple toothed attaching line is inserted into the needle
opening and the open core of the multiple toothed line is drawn through the side slotted
opening of the needle, the first toothed shape of the attaching line is braced on the edge or
rim of the needle, thus joining the needle to the multiple toothed attaching line,
and when the multiple toothed attaching line is being used within the said sewing
function, the utilized toothed attaching line is placed between the top and bottom
levers of the lever-latch and inserted into the indent in the upward face of the bottom of
the bottom lever, upon where the top lever of the lever-latch is closed against the bottom
indented lever, to prevent the said line from being withdrawn,
a locking catch of the lever-latch extends downward from the underside edge of
the top lever of the lever-latch, the locking catch has an inward pointing lip, the locking
catch is bent outward, out of position, when the lever-latch is being closed, which allows
the inward pointing lip of the catch to be inserted into the indent in the underside edge of
the bottom lever.
2) The mending kit of claim 1 wherein the mending kit is of a size to accommodate larger
mending tasks or larger accessories, such as coat buttons.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

CA 0216473~ 1998-04-07
The Specification of the Button Mending Kit
The Button Mending Kit is a button shaped fastener that can also become a button
when the mending kit has been utilized and the lever latch of the fastener is closed onto
the kit's multiple toothed attaching strap . The size and the shape of the closed lever latch
fastener allows the means for the fastener to become a replacement button.
The mending kit can be used to sew and re-attach a zipper onto a handbag or to re-
attach a heavy coat button. The multiple toothed sewing skap can be closed at any
chosen length of the said strap that might be relevant to the sewing task.
The manufactured length of the plastic strap can be both short or of moderate length.
A larger sized lever latch fastener with a larger multiple toothed strap would constitute a
stronger fastener having a stronger sewing/attaching line. The mending kit introduces an
easy-to-thread needle that does not require great eye sight from the consumer. The button
mending kit introduces quick-sew repairs and is an excellent improvement over other
button fasteners and button retainers for these stated reasons.
The button mending kit is a mending kit the use of which allows for a means to
attach and secure a button-shaped fastener onto clothing and material and/or to sew, mend
and bind clothing and material(s) and/or to attach accessories and buttons onto clothing
and material(s).
The mending kit consists of;
a lever latch fastener that has a bottom lever hinged to a top lever,
the bottom lever having an upward face, an inside edge and an underside edge, an
indent in the underside edge of the bottom lever,
the top lever having an inside edge and an underside edge, the top lever inside
edge is hinge to the inside edge of the bottom lever,

the multiple toothed attaching line has at its tip, an open core that extends into a
small expanded head,
