English Abstract

A fence including a horizontal top rail, a horizontal bottom
rail, and a plurality of pickets connected between the horizontal top
rail and the horizontal bottom rail, each picket having a top
coupling hole which receives the horizontal top rail, a bottom
coupling hole which receives the horizontal bottom rail, a first
screw hole perpendicularly disposed in communication with the top
coupling hole, a first tightening up screw threaded into the first
screw hole to hold down the horizontal top rail in the top coupling
hole, a second screw hole perpendicularly disposed in
communication with the bottom coupling hole, and a second
tightening up screw threaded into the second screw hole to hold
down the horizontal bottom rail in the bottom coupling hole.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

What the invention claimed is:
1. A fence comprising a horizontal top rail, a horizontal
bottom rail, and a plurality of pickets connected between said
horizontal top rail and said horizontal bottom rail, wherein each of
said picket comprises a top coupling hole and a bottom coupling
hole at top and bottom ends thereof which receive said horizontal
top rail and said horizontal bottom rail respectively, a first screw
hole perpendicularly disposed in communication with the top
coupling hole, a first tightening up screw threaded into said first
screw hole to hold down said horizontal top rail in said top
coupling hole, a second screw hole perpendicularly disposed in
communication with said bottom coupling hole, and a second
tightening up screw threaded into said second screw hole to hold
down said horizontal bottom rail in said bottom coupling hole.
2. The fence of claim 1 wherein said horizontal top rail and
said horizontal bottom rail are respectively welded to said top
coupling hole and said bottom coupling hole by spot welding.
3. The fence of claim 1 wherein said pickets are spaced
from one another at a pitch approximately equal to the width of
said pickets.
4. The fence of claim 3 wherein said horizontal top rail and
said horizontal bottom rail have each a plurality of raised portions

equally spaced from one another at a pitch equal to the pitch of said
pickets.

FENCE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fence, and more
particularly to such a fence which is comprised of two horizontal
5 rails joined by a plurality of pickets.
A regular wrought-iron fence is generally comprised of two
horizontal rails fixedly connected between two end posts at
different elevations, and a plurality of pickets connected between
the horizontal rails. The pickets are fastened to the horizontal
10 rails by welding or screws. During the installation of the pickets,
it is difficult to keep every picket in position. When the pickets
are installed, they may be not accurately fixed in place.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention has been accomplished to provide a
15 fence which eliminates the aforesaid problem. According to the
preferred embodiment of the present invention, the fence
comprises a horizontal top rail, a horizontal bottom rail, and a
plurality of pickets connected between the horizontal top rail and
the horizontal bottom rail, each picket having a top coupling hole
20 which receives the horizontal top rail, a bottom coupling hole
which receives the horizontal bottom rail, a first screw hole
perpendicularly disposed in communication with the top coupling

hole, a first tightening up screw threaded into the i~r~tQslr~8 lole
to hold down the horizontal top rail in the top coupling hole, a
second screw hole perpendicularly disposed in communication
with the bottom coupling hole, and a second tightening up screw
threaded into the second screw hole to hold down the horizontal
bottom rail in the bottom coupling hole. Because the horizontal
top rai~ and the horizontal bottom rail are respectively inserted
through the top coupling hole and bottom coupling hole of each
picket, the pickets can be accurately set in position. When the
horizontal top rail and the horizontal bottom rail are respectively
inserted through the top coupling hole and bottom coupling hole of
each picket, the pickets can be moved horizontally along the
horizontal top rail and horizontal bottom rail and adjusted subject
to the desired pitch.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a part of fence according to
the present invention, showing the horizontal top rail and the
horizontal bottom rail respectively inserted through the top
coupling hole and bottom coupling hole of the picket;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view in section of a picket
according to the present invention;
Fig. 3 is an applied view of the present invention, showing

the horizontal top rail and the horizontal bottom rail respectively
connected between two end posts; and
Fig. 4 is another applied view of the present invention,
showing the horizontal top rail and the horizontal bottom rail
5 respectively connected between two concrete columns.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
~-Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a picket 1 shown is cast from
iron, aluminum alloy or suitable metal material, having a top
coupling hole 101 and a bottom coupling hole 102 at top and
10 bottom ends thereof adapted to receive a horizontal top rail 2a and
a horizontal bottom rail 2b respectively, a first screw hole 3a
perpendicularly disposed in communication with the top coupling
hole 101, and a second screw hole 3b perpendicularly disposed in
communication with the bottom coupling hole 102. When the
15 horizontal top rail 2a and the horizontal bottom rail 2b are
respectively inserted through the top coupling hole 101 and bottom
coupling hole 102 of the picket 1, two tightening up screws 4a;4b
are respectively threaded into the first screw hole 3a and second
screw hole 3b of the picket 1 to fix the picket 1 and the rails 2a;2b
20 together. The picket 1 may be decorated with a torsade, a spike,
etc.
Referring to ~igures 3 and 4, and Figure 1 again, when a

220~
plurality of pickets 1 are respectively fastened to the horizontal top
rail 2a and the horizontal bottom rail 2b and fixed in place by
respective tightening up screws 4a;4b, the horizontal top rail 2a
and the horizontal bottom rail 2b are fixedly connected between
5 two end posts 5a;5b (see Figure 3) or reinforced concrete columns
5'a; 5'b (see Figure 4), and therefore a fence is set up. When
installe~l, the pickets are spaced from one another at a pitch
approximately equal to their width.
The horizontal top rail 2a and the horizontal bottom rail 2b
10 preferably have equally spaced raised portions for quick
positioning of the pickets 1. Further, the horizontal top rail 2a,
the horizontal bottom rail 2b and the pickets 1 can be cast from
same metal material so that they can be fixedly fastened together
by welding.
