PORTABLE WORKBENCH PROVIDED WITH TOOL BOX
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to a workbench, and more
particularly to a portable workbench provided with a tool box.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The conventional foldable work bench is generally provided with a
foldable leg frame and two parallel threaded rods for fastening pivotally
two movable seats. A movable desk board is fastened pivotally on the
two movable seats such that the movable desk board can be adjusted in
position by rotating a handle which is fastened with the threaded rods.
The workpiece is held by the movable desk board in conjunction with a
fixed desk board, as illustrated in FIG. 3. This wolfcraft workbench is
not provided with a tool box and can not be moved easily.
Another conventional workbench is Black and Decker workbench,
which is shown in FIG. 4 and is provided with a plastic body on which a
movable bench top is mounted. The plastic body is provided with a

plurality of slots for keeping tools. The tools kept in the slots of the
plastic body are accessible only when the movable bench top is lifted. In
other words, a user of the workbench does not have an access to tools
while the movable bench top is in use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a
workbench which is free from the drawbacks of the prior art
workbenches described above.
In keeping with the principle of the present invention, the
foregoing objective of the present invention is attained by a portable
workbench which consists of a frame provided with a receiving space
and an opening in communication with the receiving space, two threaded
rods fastened pivotally with the frame, a fixed desk board mounted on
the top of the frame, two movable seats fastened with the threaded rods,
a movable desk board fastened pivotally on the two movable seats, a tool
box received removably in the receiving space of the frame, and two
handles fastened with the two threaded rods such that the handles are
capable of turning the threaded rods to drive the movable seats to
displace along the direction of the longitudinal axis of the threaded rods,
so as to actuate the movable desk board to displace.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As shown in FIGS. 1-2, a workbench embodied in the present
invention is composed of the component parts which are described
hereinafter.
A frame 10 is composed of four upright support legs 11 having an
L-shaped cross section, two parallel slide rails 12 each being mounted on
the top ends of two support legs and each having an inverted U-shaped
cross section and a long slot 121, a cross fastening rod 13 fastened with
two support legs 11, two upright fastening rods 14 fastened respectively
with two support legs 11 such that the upright fastening rods 14 are
3
CA 02235910 1998-04-24
located under the two slide rails 12, a bottom fastening plate 15 fastened
with bottom ends of the two support legs 1 l, and four leg pads fastened
with the bottom ends of the four support legs 11. The frame 10 is
provided therein with a receiving space 17 and an opening 18. The two
upright fastening rods 14 have an L-shaped cross section. The receiving
space 17 is provided therein with two parallel guide rails 19 located in
the same plane. The two support legs 11 are provided with an
indentation 111.
Two threaded rods 20 are parallel to each other and are fastened
pivotally with the frame 10.
A fixed desk board 21 is fastened with the two slide rails 12 by
two bolts 22 which are engaged with the threaded holes 122 of the slide
rails 12.
Two movable seats 23 are fastened with the two threaded rods 20.
A movable desk board 24 is fastened pivotally with the two
movable seats 23 by two bolts 25, which are put through the long slots
121. The movable desk board 24 is provided with a through hole 241.
Two slide blocks 26 are embedded in the underside of the two
movable desk boards 24 and are located between the desk board 24 and
the movable seat 23. The desk board 24 is capable of turning along with
the movable seat 23 on the bolt serving as a shaft.
Two handles 27 are removably fastened with the exposed ends of
the two threaded rods 20 by a bolt 28. The handles 27 are intended to
4

actuate the threaded rods 20 to turn so as to drive the movable seats 23 to
displace along the direction of the longitudinal axis of the threaded rod
20. The movable desks 24 are thus' actuated to displace.
A large tool box 29 is similar in shape to the receiving space 17
and is provided with two shoulder faces 291 for placing on the two guide
rails 19 of the frame 10. The tool box 29 is located in the receiving space
17 such that the tool box 29 is confined by the cross fastening rod 13 and
the upright fastening rod 14. The two guide rails 19 are provided with a
locating hole 191 engageable with the locating portion 292 of the
shoulder face 291. The tool box 29 is provided in the underside thereof
with a cavity 293 dimensioned to receive a finger for lifting slightly the
tool box 29 such that the locating portion 292 is disengaged with the
locating hole 190, and that the tool box 29 can be pulled out of the frame
10. The tool box 29 is provided with a hand grip 294.
A small tool box 30 is placed on the top of the large tool box 29
and is provided with an indentation 301 large enough to let the hand grip
294 to go therethrough. The indentation 301 is provided in the periphery
thereof with a hand grip 302 extending therefrom to superimpose with
the hand grip 294 of the large tool box 29 so as to enable both large tool
box 29 and small tool box 30 to be carried together. The small tool box
30 is provided with a plurality of partitions. Two cover plates 31 are
fastened pivotally with the small tool box 30 for closing the
compartments in which nails, screws, etc. are kept.
The fixed desk board 21 and the movable desk board 24 are
provided respectively with a plurality of insertion holes 211, 242 for
holding the locating members 32.
CA 02235910 1998-04-24
The large tool box 2 is intended to hold the large hand tools such
as wrenches, saws, power drill, et~. The small tool box 30 is intended to
hold small hand tools or metal component parts. In moving the tool
boxes 29 and 30, a finger is received in the through hole 241 of the
movable desk board 24 to carry away the workbench along with the tool
boxes. In using the workbench, the handle 27 is rotated such that the
movable desk board 24 is moved away to allow a workpiece to be
located between the movable desk board 24 and the fixed desk board 21
or between the locating members 32 of the desk boards 21 and 24. The
handle 27 is then rotated to drive the movable desk board 24 such that
the workpiece is held securely.
The advantage of the present invention is that the tool boxes 29
and 30 can be taken out of the frame 10 to facilitate the use of the hand
tools and the metal components, and that the tool boxes 29 and 30 are
prevented from collecting the debris, and further that the tool boxes 29
and 30 can be put back in to facilitate the carrying of the tool boxes 29
and 30.
The embodiment of the present invention described above is to be
deemed in all respects as being merely illustrative and not restrictive.
Accordingly, the present invention may be embodied in other specific
forms without deviating from the spirit thereof. For example, the frame
may be embodied in any form as long as the frame 10 is provided
with a receiving space and an opening for accommodating the tool box.
In addition, the hand grip of the workbench may be located and
constructed in a way that is most accommodating. The bottom fastening
rod 15 may be used to fastened the frame 10 on a work desk top. The
G

handle 27 and the threaded rod 20 may be separated to save the space.
The present invention is therefore to be limited only by the scopes of the
following appended claims.
