English Abstract

A button fastener of plastic material, which can be quickly, attach onto
clothing and material. The
button fastener has a pointed, ribbed or toothed, free-end strap leading
downward from the underside
of the fastener. The point of the strap is inserted into and drawn through
pants, clothing or material
and the strap is then inserted through an opening in the fastener leading to a
passageway through the
fastener.
Situated above the opening in the fastener is a flap, which is folded in onto
the body of the
fastener. The flap has art shapes, icons or emblems molded into the outward
side of the flap.
An angled lip on the inside of the flap is bent out of position and is
inserted into an underside
indent in the fastener, locking the flap onto the fastener body and securing
the position of the strap
within the passageway.
An alternative embodiment of a button fastener is designed with a pointed,
ribbed strap that is
inserted through a passageway within the shank of a button fastener. The shank
contains a locking
cache within the passageway that is sized to the ribbed strap and which
prevents the withdrawal of an
inserted ribbed strap from being withdrawn from the fastener. The shank button
fastener can have art
icons molded onto and into the face of the button from a side molding
technique.

CA 02406556 2002-10-21
SPECIFICATION
A button fastener of plastic material, which can be attach onto clothing and
material. The button
fastener has a pointed, toothed, free-end strap leading downward from the
underside of the fastener. A
short, jab-point of the toothed and ribbed strap is inserted into and drawn
through pants, clothing or
material and the strap is then inserted into an underside opening in the
fastener, the opening leading to
a passageway through the fastener. The size and width of the attaching strap
can be smaller than the
pointed head of the strap. Appro.x. 2,~ MM
Situated above and before the said opening in the fastener, is a flap that is
folded in onto the body
of the fastener. The flap has ar-t shapes, icons and emblems molded into and
onto the outward side of
the flap.
The center of the inward side of the flap has an extended-insert that is
shaped to fit into the
passageway through the fastener. When the said flap is folded in onto the body
of the fastener,
holding teeth on the extended-insert, inter-locks with the ribbed, toothed,
strap and/or the extended
insert pushes the ribbed toothed strap into two toothed caches located at the
beginning and at the end
of the passageway through the fastener.
An angled lip on the inside of the flap is bent out of position and is
inserted into an underside
indent, pushing the said extended-insert into the passageway through the
fastener and locking the flap
onto the fastener body. The strap within the passageway is held in place. The
button fastener has been
attached.
Seefig.1,2,3,4,5&6
The art icon flap rests upward from the closed body of the fastener and is
molded with a
backward angle of lean. The flap is not perpendicular to the base of the
fastener because the angle of
lean by the flap, sets what angle the inward, pointed lip on the inside of the
flap will be molded at.
Consequentially, when molding a fastener, the said lean of the flap produces
an "angled edge" within
the molded art on the flap of the fastener. (n order that the button-art
remains unencumbered in its
design, the "molding edge" is re-angled. The outcome being that the art icons
on the buttons have fat
lines of definition.
An art button fastener can be quickly attached onto clothing for the fashion
on the art icon
button and/or in the replacement of a missing button. A button fastener can be
attached onto an object
2

CA 02406556 2002-10-21
by wrapping the strap around the object before inserting the ribbed strap into
the fastener for closure.
With inventive sewing and utilization, two or three button fastener can
substitute the replacement of a
zipper. The button fastener is sized for ornamentation and fashion or for a
fastening use on a large,
carry-sack.
A shank button, an alternative embodiment of the invention
An alternative button fastener shall be titled a shank button. The fastener
has an entrance and an
exit through the shank that is sized to a pointed, ribbed strap. The shank of
the alternative button
fastener has a pointed, ribbed strap leading off from the bottom side. A strap
in the shank fastener has
the same thickness as the head of the strap. There are one or two locking
caches on the wall or the
floor of the said passageway. When the strap is inserted through the
passageway, the caches) bends)
back from the pressure of entry and edged indents in the strap receive the
extensions) of the cache,
preventing the withdrawal of the strap from the passageway. The strap can be
ribbed or side toothed.
The button head of the shank button fastener is solid. The art head of the
shank button fastener is
molded with side-molded art icons. Side molded art has a variable of possible
designs such as a cross,
a six-pointed star or a twelve-pointed sun. if a face were molded on a sun or
star, the centre of the
mold would be raised within a dome shape and the said dome shape would have
the facial designs.
The shank button fastener is strong in design. A shank button can have a full
detail, art flap,
which is folded in onto a flat body of the shank fastener. The art flap has an
inward pointing lip and
the body of the shank fastener has an indent in the underside of the fastener.
Within a shank button design, the passageway for the strap can be molded
through the head of the
button fastener, the bottom of the passageway being sealed
See Fig 7, 8, 9 & 10
A two piece button fastener
A two-piece button fastener consists of an art icon flap having two C-shaped
extensions
located on the underside edge of a flap, where-in the C-shaped extensions on a
separated "art icon
flap" are slipped under a hinge on the body of a fastener and the art icon
lever is folded down onto the
flat surface of the body of a fastener. The body of the fastener has an indent
in the underside of the
fastener and the flap having an inward pointing lip, which is turned into the
indent in the fastener. The
sales market would target the selling different art icon for pre-attached
button fasteners.

Summary
The art icon button fastener is an improved embodiment over the button mending
kit patent. A 2.5 MM wide, pointed head of a ribbed or toothed attaching strap
can easily
jab-pierce through a pair of jeans or cotton pants. Some pants takes
percisants, but the
enlarged pointed head of the strap will eventual penetrate throigh most
material. A pointed
head of button fastener strap ends in a fine percise point.
The improved embodiment of the button fastener has an art icon flap. Folding
in
the said art icon flap pushes an extended insert on the inside of the flap,
into a passageway
where the attaching strap has been placed. An angled edges on the extended-
insert, engages
the ribbed or toothed strap and/or the extended insert pushes the ribbed strap
into one or
two locking caches in the passageway through the fastener, The extended insert
directly or
indirectly engaged with the attaching strap.
The slight, backward lean of the full detail art flap provides the molding
angle for
an inward pointing lip locvated on the inside of the flap. The outward side of
the flap faces
into the mould of a molding machine. A one-pie<;e fastener can be molded with
full
detailed art and emblems.
Within an alternative embodiment of a button fastener, a shank of the fastener
is
emphasized as a route of insert for a pointed, ribbed or toothed, attaching
strap. The head
of the shank button fastener is rigid. A side-molding technique incorporates a
variable of
art design that may be molded to the button fastener.
The art icon flap can be molded, separately for joining onto a reciprocal
fastener
body. The independent art icon flap has an inward pointing lip for closure
onto the
reciprocal body of a button fastener,
The art-button fasteners are an improvement in self-attaching buttons that can
be
quickly attached.
