Application for a patent filing date
Application
1. The Applicant: POL-E-MAR INC.
whose complete address is
17 Maitland St. Dartmouth, NS B2Y 3L8, Canada
requests the grant of a filing date for a patent for an invention, entitled
the ~rigami Bag, and the process to manufacture it.
which is described later and claimed in the accompanying specification.
2. Richard Wood is the sole inventor.
3. The Applicant will appoint a Patent Agent at a later date.
The Product
The Origami Bag (henceforth called the Bag) is fabricated from any form of
heat weldabie fabric or fabric
that can be glued that will meet the strengths required for the application.
For weldable fabric all seams
are welded using one or more of the following methods:
RF welding
Hot air welding
Wedge welding
Applications but not limited to the following embodiments:
2Flexitanks" for bulk liquid transportation, either reusable or one way.
liquid storage tank.
Temporary flood barrier.
Description of how the Bag works
As a Flexitank or liquid storage t~tk:
The Bag is placed in a container or frame and may be attached with connectors,
if it needs to be
held in place. Pt is then filled with liquid through the inlet(s). This type
of tank is often referred to
as a Ffexitank.
In the case of the Flexitank the container may be a standard Oft container and
the Flexitank is
4imited in size to hold 800cu.ft. or 22 tons due to strength of the container
and load restrictions.
Reusable Flexiianks, made of heavier fabric, are emptied at the destination,
cleaned and sent off
to be used again. Disposable Flexitanks are emptied at the destination and
then destroyed.
Some clients may require more than one inlet and possibly a relief valve.
For the liquid storage tank:
The Bag may be attached to a skeleton frame or it might be free standing,
depending on the
liquids and the size of the Bag.
As a temporary flood barrier:
The Bags are set up in one ar more layers in the same way that bricks are Paid
and the Bags
are attached to each other laterally and vertically. The Bags are filled with
water using pumps
and noses.
What is special about the Bag?
1. The PROCESS by which it is constructed
2. There are no prayer seams that can be opened up under pressure, which makes
for a
stronger more reliable bag.
3. It can be made into a rectangular shape to conform and fit into a support
and make use of all
the space unlike a pillow tank.
4. It is simple to construct.
5. It has a number of applications.
6. With the proper fabric selection Bags can be from made from a few cubic
feet up to
thousands of cubic feet.

Application for a patent sting date
Overview of the process
The Bag is formed from a single rectangular flat panel of weldabie fabric,
such as but not limited
to PVC or Urethane, that may or may not be made up of one or more sections.
By specific markings a rectangular master panel is folded and welded to form a
six-sided
waterproof container capable of holding liquids. The side and end seams are
lap seams (not
prayer seams) and the ends are folded over and sealed to form flaps. These
flaps fold towards
each other and are secured together with a strap or rope attachment to
complete the Bag. The
finished shape of the Bag end is roughly rectangular even when totally
unsupported.
The Process
If applicable cut sections of fabric and weld into a master panel.
Mark master panel for al! welds and folds.
Cut holes) for inlets/outlets and if appropriate relief val~res.
Weld on attachments* if required.
Weld two sides with a lap seam to form a tube - this requires a special welder
head.
Weld in or bolt in watertight inletloutlet fittings or relief as required ~
Weld the centre portion of each end with a lap seam -this requires a special
welder head.
Fold each comer into a triangle and RF weld to make a complete sealed unit and
add
attachments* if applicable.
Attach (adjustable) straplrope Tiding.
Inflate to check for leaks.
Deflate and send to stock.
* Attachments include but are not limited to:
Fittings for connectors to join bags to form a temporary flood barrier. Bags
attach and stack tc5
more than one level to foim a pattern like bricks.
Fittings to secure Flexitanks in containers
~ Inlets and outlets can be of various sizes and may be placed on the ends or
top of the Bag and there
may be one or more used in a single Bag. Relief valves may also be fitted to
the Bag for special
applications.
CALCt7LATtON MASTER PANEL SIZE - which may consist of more than one section
width. See Fig. 1
