English Abstract

In this application for a patent, Traceability of Agricultural and Agri Food
Products
will be done using RFID and GPS technology. Current methods of traceability in
Agricultural and Agri Foods are rudimentary and involve far too much manual
intervention that can not only lead to human errors in information coding but
also
due to the burden of human involvement in the process, the current systems do
not make it conducive for wide application and use. In using RFID and GPS
technologies, the traceability will be automated by bar coding or chip
technology
into each product that is harvested. All the data will be collected and stored
in a
database to follow each product from its origin farm, processing,
transportation
and delivery to the end consumer.
Using RFDI and GPS technology, we will capture the exact origin of each
vegetable,
fruit, poultry, beef, lamb, goat, etc. and their processed products through
their
transporter all the way to the end supermarket and consumer. This
functionality is
crucial in avoiding mass recalls of contaminated products, products which may
have
bacteria or even mad cow disease. By tracing each product individually, it
will be
easy for customers not only to know where their food is coming from, but the
regulatory authorities will be able to identify within a matter of seconds
where the
product originated from. Even in processed goods, our Traceability System will
allow the processors to identify the source and origin of each key ingredient
they
use in their production. In case of contamination, within a few seconds, the
processor will know where the input products came from me. In case of a
disease
breakout of food poisoning, the authorities will know right away where that
particular food item originated from and instead of banning a large amount of
product off the market; they will be able to identify the batch and processing
location where the product came from.
We will capture and store this data in an online accessible database to assist
the
Department of Agricultural and Agri Foods. Certainly, this will avoid a
country wide
ban on all products from a country just because one bad batch of a food
product

was discovered to have made some people sick. We will also make available this
information via the Internet to end consumers who are interested to know the
origin and handling of the food they consume.

Claims

CLAIMS
The Embodiments Of The Invention In Which An Exclusive Property Or
Privilege Is Claimed Are Defined As Follows:
1. Implanting a computer chip into the rubber bands which are used on all
vegetables which are banded for resale in grocery stores for RFID reading
with GPS technology to identify the origin, processing, handling and
transportation of the product from the origin to the end location or
consumer.
2. Putting bar codes on the rubber bands which are used to band all products
such as celery, carrots, spinach, collards, Swiss chard, rapini, bok choy,
etc.
with a chip or UPC code and using RFID and GPS technology to identify the
origin, processing, handling and transportation of the product from its origin
to the end location or consumer.
3. Putting tags on Agricultural and Agri Foods with bar code information or a
computer chip for tracing with RFID and GPS technology with the intent of
identifying the product origin, processing, handling and transportation from
the product origin to the end location or end buyer.
4. Implanting a computer chip or a tag with a code in the bags which are used
for bagged fruits such as oranges, apples, etc. as well as bagged vegetables
such as onions, potatoes, garlic, etc. for the intent of using RFID and GPS
technology for the purpose of identifying the product origin, processing,
handling and transportation from the product origin to the end location or
end consumer.
5. Using RFID and GPS technology to trace the exact farm origin of each animal
before it goes to the abattoir or butcher.
6. Using RFID and GPS technology to log information of the animal source once
it gets to the abattoir or butcher before processing for meat cuts or other

meat products such as ground beef, ground chicken, ground turkey, lamb
chops, etc. for the purpose of retaining the origin of the animal, handling or
processing, logistics to the end location of the meat products.
7. Using RFID and GPS technology to trace other farm products such as milk,
cheese, sour cream, yoghurt, eggs, etc. for the purpose of tracing the product
origin, processing, handling and transportation to the end location or end
consumer.
8. Using UPC codes, coded tags or chip technology with the intent of using
RFID
and GPS technology to trace the original animal source for each cut of meat
so that it will be traced to the original source of the animal and logging
this
information into a database that is accessible online for purposes of
traceability.
9. Using RFID and GPS technology to trace the handling and logistics of the
Meat and Poultry products and logging all the information into an online
database which will be accessible to government authorities, supermarkets
and the end buyer.
10. Using software that incorporates RFID and GPS technology for the purpose
of
total traceability of Agriculture and Agro-Food products based on any or all
the information gathered in 1-9 above to present to the public and
government authorities via the Internet or in any electronic format such as
proprietary software or printed reports from such software applications that
manipulate data and providing reports to the public or government
authorities or wholesale buyers of such products.
11. Using software that incorporates RFID and GPS technology to provide total
traceability of Agriculture or Agri-Foods in any form (from the source to the
end consumer or there in between).
12. Using Information Technology (IT) in any form to create any software
systems that rely on such information as will be gathered in this patent
application that relies on the use of RFID and GPS technology for such
information gathering.

Traceability of Agricultural and Agri Food Products using RFID and GPS
technology.
Invention by Luc Gallant and Martha Nangalama.
Description
Our company Shediac Fresh Seafood Inc. is applying for a patent to protect our
invention of the
combined technology of using RFID and GPS technology to trace Agriculture
foods and Agri Foods from
the harvesting area (harvester) to the consumer. We will be using our
Information Technology Software
to feed information from Global Positioning Systems, via RFID technology, to
trace Agricultural and
Agrifood from the source (growing area or farming field), through the
processing plant, transportation
route all the way to the end customer. This traceability is crucial in
identifying a potential localized area
where a disease might break out and consequently will help the Agricultural
and Agri Food Industry not
to face a blanket ban on any product that might be found to have caused an
illness breakout. The
Products which will be traced include all vegetables (broccoli, spinach,
carrots, celery, cauliflower, etc.),
all staples (rice, wheat, potatoes, etc.) as well as all meats (Chicken,
Ostrich, beef, Bison, venison, Pork,
lamb, goat, etc.).
Thank you,
Luc Gallant and Martha Nangalama
