English Abstract

A material handler implement (commonly referred to as a tractor, or skid steer
bucket) permitting an
excavator equipped with a hydraulic levelling blade, to load, transport, and
discharge large volumes of
materials is disclosed. The material handler is comprised of 3 primary
components. One oversized
rectangular material handler which contains the material. Rear adjustable
quick attach system which
permit the material handler to be securely mounted to the hydraulic levelling
blade of an excavator. A
forward mounted adjustable cradle carry arm which permits the material handler
to be lifted and/or
discharged by the excavators hydraulic digging shovel. The carry cradle has
adjustable positions to either
carry, or discharge the material handler. The material handler features 2
removable forward mounted
stakes to permit the loading of material (such as logs) which surpass the
width of the bucket.
In one embodiment, the material handler is comprised of a floor, left and
right lateral walls and a rear wall.
The cradle carry cradle component is secured to the rear wall and motioned on
an angle towards the
center of the material handler. The two quick attach units are mounted to the
left and right section of the
rear wall of the material handler. The stake pockets are situated on the
interior of the forward portion of
the material handler.

CA 2958813 2017-02-23
Title: Material Handler "Bucket" implement for a track excavator blade
Description Preface:
Compact excavators have experienced tremendous growth & popularity in the
market. They are very
functional machines but are inefficient for manoeuvring large amounts of
material in a single charge. In
many cases, contractors require an additional machine (skid steer or loader)
to displace larger amounts
of material such as earth and gravel.
The market currently offers numerous implements for the hydraulic arm of an
excavator, but no
implements are offered or designed to attach to the hydraulic levelling blade
of a track excavator. The
hydraulic levelling blade is standard with most compact excavators and the
hydraulic cylinder which
supports the blade is designed to lift and stabilize the excavator during the
digging process. The lifting
capacity of this cylinder is sufficient enough to manage considerable weight
capacities. Our proposed
material handler will significantly increase the multifunctional ability of a
track excavator by enabling it
to scoop, transport, and discharge large amounts (as much as 8 times current
capacity) of material via a
non-hydraulic attachment designed to attach to the existing track excavator
blade. The unit takes
advantage of the existing hydraulic components of a track excavator (arm,
shovel & blade) and allow the
operator to manoeuvre and handle various large volumes of material.
Description:
The invention relates to a material handler "commonly known as a tractor or
skid steer bucket" that
attaches to the hydraulic blade of a track excavator via twin quick connect
rear assembly mounts. This
allows the device to act as as a material handling bucket /shovel, for which
the excavator can carry,
scoop, lift and discharge large amounts of material using the existing
hydraulics of the excavator blade.
Material can be loaded into the material handler by advancing into the
material with the excavator or by
loading it with the excavators digging bucket. The material handler can be
installed by approaching it
until the lower portion of the excavator blade touches the back wall of the
blade bucket, and then by
simply lifting the hydraulic blade until it enters the 2 rear quick
connectors. To release the material
handler, the operator simply lowers the track excavator blade and backs away.
The material handler may be manipulated by the hydraulic excavator arm and
digging bucket via the
forward carry cradle. This carry cradle allows the excavator to grab the
horizontal forward mounted
carry cradle and displace the unit. The carry cradle has a second vertical pin
position to allow for
discharging material.
Note #1: The operator remains inside the excavator to mount and dismount the
material handler.
Note #2: No hydraulic connections required for the attachment of the material
handler to the track
excavator blade.
