Picture Frame Hanging Tool
Abstract
A picture hanging tool that allows its user to suspend a picture
frame by a conventional frame hook to accurately position the
hook on a wall, and allow the user to mark the wall in relation
to the hook, on which the frame will be hung, to ensure future
placement of the picture or photo frame is in the desired
location.
Description
Background of Invention:
Hanging a picture or photo frame in the desired location can be
a struggle leading to unnecessary holes and damage to a wall,
and wasted time. This is often due to the instinctive method of
trial and error. Others may try using mathematics such as
geometry in order to accurately pinpoint the position a hook

CA 2964938 2017-04-24
should be nailed into a wall. This can be complex and time
consuming.
The invention is in response to the nuisances of hanging a
picture or photo frame. It allows its user to hold a picture or
photo frame by a conventional frame hook in mid-air and position
it on the wall in the exact desired location. The picture or
photo frame can be removed from the tool, with the hook
remaining in place, and the wall can be marked in relation to
the hook so the user knows where to mount the hook, and
subsequently the picture or photo frame, at a later time.
The invention will improve the efficiency, and lessen the
nuisances, of hanging a picture or photo frame.
Summary of Invention:
One objective of this tool is to simplify and quicken the
process of hanging a picture frame.
Another objective is to more effectively enable a person(s) to
hang a picture frame to nearly the exact location desired.
A further objective of this invention is to ensure accurately
hanging a picture frame is convenient and inexpensive.
Yet another objective of this tool is to contain a surface
sufficient in size to allow artwork or designs to be printed on
it to make the tool aesthetic and appealing to its user.
In the following description these objectives will become
apparent.

Description of Drawings:
Fig. 1, is the front plane view of the invention
Fig. 2, is an enlarged view of the cut-out intended to hold a
conventional frame hook
Fig. 3, is a side view of a conventional frame hook supported by
the invention
Description of Invention in Relation to Drawings
The body of the tool 1 is preferred to be a thin, inexpensive
polymer. The length 5 of the tool is preferred to be a length
that sufficiently allows its user to hold the tool while a frame
is mounted to it (approx. 190 mm). The width 2 is preferred to
be sufficient to house the cut-out 3, where a conventional frame
hook will be mounted, with structural integrity (approx. 75 mm).
The width 2 and height 5, in conjunction, are intended to create
a surface area allowing artwork or an aesthetic design to be
printed on it. The edge 2 is not restricted to the shape in the
drawing but can be altered in order to create an aesthetic
shape.
The bottom 7 of the cut-out 3 is designed to be a long distance
from the bottom of the tool 4 to provide structural integrity,
but a short distance to allow a conventional frame hook 11 to be
hung from the cut-out 3. The balance in distance is achieved by
the length, from top to bottom 14, of the smallest conventional
frame hook in the market (approx. 9.5 mm).
The depth of the tool 10 is intended to be sufficiently thin in
order to hang a conventional frame hook 11 from the cut-out 3.
The depth is limited by the gap between the back and the front
13 of the conventional frame hook 11. This gap ranges but is
approx. 1.5mm.

CA 2964938 2017-04-24
The overall dimensions are at a threshold between minimizing
materials used and ensuring structural integrity. The size,
material used, and simplicity of the design minimizes production
cost and makes selling the tool inexpensively more feasible.
In Fig. 2 the top of the cut-out 6 is predominately horizontally
straight, in cooperation with the structural design of a
conventional frame look 11, in order minimize cut-out 3 size;
and therefore maximize surface area for artwork and aesthetic
designs, and maximize structural integrity. The position of 6
(approx. 19 mm from 7), is preferred to be sufficient in
distance from the bottom of the tool 4 in order to fit the
longest length 14 of a conventional frame hook 15, that is
quoted to hold up to 7 kg, into the cut-out 3.
Points 7, 8, and 9 mark the width of various widths of cut-out 3
that are measured to be the corresponding widths of conventional
frame hooks 11 in the market. The cut-out 3 is measured to these
widths in order to more securely mount the conventional frame
hook 11 with limited movement.
Description of Usage in Reference to Drawings:
The user will grip the body 1 with one hand and hang a
conventional frame hook 11 from the cut-out 3 on planes marked
by 7, 8, or 9 with the other hand. With the hand that hung the
conventional frame hook 11, a picture frame can be hung from the
support arm 12 of the conventional frame hook 11 that is hung
from the cut-out 3. This makes the users arm and hand, the tool,
the conventional frame hook 11, and the picture or photo frame
one unit and allows the user to move the picture or photo frame
to the desired location of mounting. Once in position, the user
can remove the picture frame from the conventional frame hook 11
while immobilizing the body 1 to ensure the conventional frame

CA 2964938 2017-04-24
hook remains in the desired location. The desired position of
the conventional frame hook 11 can be marked on the wall for
future reference for when the hook, and subsequently the picture
or photo frame, is to be mounted.
Claims
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property
or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1.A picture frame hanging tool, used in conjunction with a
picture frame, a conventional picture frame hook, a writing
or marking device, a nail, and a hammer, wherein the tool
consists of:
A thin elongated rigid, but flexible, body that is sized to
create a sufficient means for the user to hold the tool,
and the picture frame in conjunction with a conventional
frame hook, without interference from the top of picture
frame; and an opening at the bottom of the body, for which
a conventional picture hook can be hung, and subsequently a
picture frame, in mid-air, and provide a station for which
the conventional frame hook can be positioned, and
temporarily fixed on a wall by the user, and used as a
reference to mark the wall for mounting a conventional
frame hook, and subsequently a picture frame, in the
future.
2.A picture frame hanging tool as in claim 1; wherein, the
opening is sized with dimensions that permits conventional
frame hooks of variable sizes being hung from the bottom
members of the opening.

CA 2964938 2017-04-24
3.A picture frame hanging tool as in claim 1; where in the
opening at the bottom is positioned at a distance from the
bottom outer dimensions of the main body such that it will
sufficiently support the weight of a conventional frame
hook that is suspending a picture frame.
