1
SCREW FOR MOUNTING A WINDOW FRAME OR DOOR FRAME
The invention relates to a screw for mounting a window frame or door frame.
Background of the Invention
Window frames or door frames are often fixed in a reveal (or embrasure) 3 in a
desired
mounting plane by screws, wherein the screws are screwed through the window
frame or door
frame directly into the reveal or into rawlplugs in the reveal. If one of the
screws is not
positioned correctly, the window frame or door frame does not lie, at this
position, in the
mounting plane, but is out of the mounting plane in the area of this screw. A
mounting of a
window or a door in the window frame or door frame is then not possible,
because the
window frame and/or door frame is skewed (or contorted). The exact positioning
of the
screws is therefore essential to ensure that the window frame or door frame
(and thus the
window or the door), in the finished state, lies in the mounting plane and/or
perpendicular to
an underground, such as a floor of a residential building.
From DE 10 2010 030 281 Al, there is known a system for mounting windows with
a
rawlplug and a screw, wherein the rawlplug can be cut to length and wherein
the screw has a
reveal section for arrangement (or locating) in the reveal or for arrangement
in a rawlplug in
the reveal, and a frame section for arrangement in the window frame or door
frame.
It is disadvantageous in the known mounting of a window frame or door frame
that a
misalignment (or a positioning out-of-position) of a screw has to be corrected
elaborately, for
example by making compensating bores to displace the screw a little bit in the
desired
direction, or by removing the misaligned screw and newly setting a new screw
at another
position. By these measures, the window frame or door frame 5, which does not
lie in the
mounting plane at least section-wise, can be moved completely into the
mounting plane.
It is an object of the present invention to be able to more easily correct a
misalignment of a
screw in the mounting of a door frame or window frame.
CA 3027216 2020-02-28

2
Summary
The object is solved according to the invention by a screw according to an
aspect of the
invention, by a window frame or door frame being fixed in a reveal by at least
one such screw
as well as an associated method for fixing a window frame or door frame in a
reveal with at
least one screw according to the invention.
In the context of the present patent application, an "axial offset" between
the reveal axis and
the frame axis can be understood to be in particular an offset between the
mentioned axes,
Such an axial offset and/or offset of axes may refer to a lateral offset
between the reveal axis
and the frame axis. Demonstratively, such an axial offset may refer to a
parallel translation
between the reveal axis and the frame axis in a lateral and/or radial
direction.
In accordance with an aspect of the present invention there is provided a
screw for mounting a
window frame or door frame, the screw having comprising a screw head having a
drive for
rotationally operating the screw and an opposite screw tip as well as a frame
section for
arrangement in the window frame or door frame, and a reveal section for
arrangement in a
reveal, wherein the reveal section has a reveal axis and the frame section has
a frame axis, and
an axial offset between the reveal axis and the frame axis, wherein a shaft
diameter in the
frame section is larger than a shaft diameter in the reveal section.
Advantageously, the reveal section has a screw thread, and the frame section
is formed bolt-
shapedly or also has a screw thread.
Preferably, the screw thread in the reveal section and the screw thread in the
frame section are
each a wood thread, and have in particular a same thread pitch and thread
height.
Preferably, the drive is an AW, a Philipps, a Torx or a slit drive.
Advantageously, a screw thread-free section is formed between the frame
section and the
reveal section.
Advantageously, a shaft diameter in the frame section is larger than a shaft
diameter in the
reveal section, in particular in the range from 5 to 20%.
CA 3027216 2020-02-28

3
A shaft cross-section in the frame section and/or a shaft cross-section in the
reveal section
is/are circular.
Preferably, the axial offset has a size of 1-10 mm, preferably 1-4 mm, and in
particular 2 mm.
The fixing of the window frame or door frame according to step c) of the
method according to
a further aspect of the invention is effected preferably exclusively by screws
according to the
invention.
The fixing according to step c) of the method according to the further aspect
of the invention
can be effected in push-through installation or in cotter installation, i.e.
either a rawlplug is
inserted into the reveal through the window frame or door frame, which is
arranged in the
reveal, or alternatively, a bore is set in the reveal and only then the window
frame or door
frame is arranged in the reveal.
The screws, which are used in step c) of the method according to the further
aspect of the
invention, in particular screws according to the invention, are screwed
through the window
frame or door frame directly into the reveal, for example made of hollow
chamber bricks, full
bricks, or wood, or alternatively, are screwed through the window frame or
door frame into
rawlplugs, which are arranged in the reveal, for example made of hollow
chamber bricks, full
bricks, wood, or concrete.

Detailed Description of the Drawings
Figure 1 shows a side view of a screw according to the invention as well as a
top view onto
the head 1K of the screw 1, in which the drive 1A is arranged. The screw 1 has
the head 1K at
one end and a screw tip 1S at the other end. A frame section 1R of the screw 1
is provided for
an arrangement (or a locating) in a window frame or door frame 5, and a reveal
section 1L is
provided for arrangement (or a locating) in a reveal, either directly in the
reveal or in a
rawlplug in the reveal. A wood screw thread 1GL, 1GR is, respectively, formed
on the frame
section 1R and on the reveal section 1L, wherein the two screw threads 1GL and
1GR have
the same thread pitch and the same thread height. A screw thread-free section
1G is formed
between the two sections 1L, 1R.
In order to fix a window in a house wall, which runs perpendicular to a bottom
of a floor of a
house, one proceeds as follows:
The reveal (or embrasure) 3 is established in the house wall, in which the
window is to be
arranged. The reveal has four sidewalls, which are orthogonal (or
perpendicular) relative to
each other, i.e. fitting to the four sides of a window frame 5 of the window,
which sides are
orthogonal relative to each other.
The window frame 5 is arranged in the reveal 3 and is pre-adjusted in the
reveal 3 by glazing
pads, i.e. on the one hand, suitable distances are adjusted between the window
frame 5 and the
reveal 3, and, on the other hand, the window frame 5 is arranged in a mounting
plane 1M,
which also runs perpendicular to the floor.
Then, the necessary number and the position of fixing points is determined,
i.e. the number
and the position of the locations, at which the window frame will be screwed
together with the
reveal. Subsequently, by the help of a drilling machine, the corresponding
fixing points are
prepared by drilling, by the drilling machine, holes (or bores) through the
window frame 5
and into the reveal. Care must be taken that the window frame 5 does not slide
out of position
during the drilling of the holes.
CA 3027216 2020-02-28

5
If the fixing points are prepared in this manner, rawlplugs are inserted
through the holes in the
window frame 5 and into the holes in the reveal 3. Thereafter, screws are set
(or inserted)
through the window frame 5 and into the rawlplugs, and are screwed into the
latter, so as to
fix the window frame 5 in the reveal. Conventional glazing screws can be used
as the screws.
If all fixing points are set, i.e. all screws are screwed into the associated
rawlplugs, it is
checked by the help of a mechanic's level, whether the window frame 5 is
perpendicular, i.e.
runs perpendicular to the floor. In other words: It is checked whether the
window frame 5 is
located in the mounting plane 1M.
If at a fixing point the window frame 5 is not in the mounting plane 1M and if
the distance, by
which it is displaced from the mounting plane, is lower than the offset 1V of
the screw
according to the invention, the glazing screw of the fixing point is removed,
and a screw
according to the invention is screwed through the window frame 5 and into the
rawlplug, until
the screw 1 is set, i.e. the head 1K closes flush with the window frame 5.
Now, in this position, the posture of the window frame 5 relative to the
mounting plane 1M
can be adjusted, by rotationally operating the screw 1 such that the window
frame moves into
the mounting plane 1M. The rotational movement, which is necessary for the
adjustment,
should not exceed 1800, because a rotational movement of 1800 is sufficient to
rotate the axial
offset 1V in the top view onto the screw head from one side to an opposite
side.
Figure 2 shows a top view onto the reveal 3, in which the window frame 5 is
arranged. The
figure shows interruptedly the locking side of the window frame 5, i.e. the
side of the window
frame, into which the window catch for latching the window grabs. In Figure 2,
the two fixing
points of this side of the window frame are shown: this side of the window
frame 5 is fixed in
an upper section of the Figure 2 by a screw 1 in the reveal 3, and is fixed in
a lower section
also by a screw 1 in the reveal 3. In the present case, therefore, both
glazing screws have been
replaced by the screw 1 according to the invention, and, after the latter have
been set (or
inserted), they are rotated by at maximum 180 , so that the window frame 5
lies in the
mounting plane 1M.
As can be taken from Fig. 2, the window frame 5 is arranged vertically, i.e.
perpendicular to
the floor: The left edge and the right edge of the window frame in Fig. 2 each
have the same
CA 3027216 2020-02-28

6
distance to the mounting plane 1M, i.e. the window frame 5 is arranged
symmetrically to the
mounting plane 1M. Then, a window can be put into the window frame 5.
The screw 1 according to the invention thus provides remedy in the
misalignment in the case
of a mis-positioning of a glazing a screw by its axial offset 1V between the
reveal section 1L
and the frame section 1R: If a conventional glazing screw is mis-positioned,
then this glazing
screw is removed, and the screw 1 according to the invention is inserted. If
the screw 1
according to the invention is inserted through the window frame or door frame
5 and into the
reveal, then by rotationally operating the screw 1 by at maximum 1800, the
window frame or
door frame 5 can be moved at the according position in each direction
perpendicular to the
axis lAR of the frame section 1R, however, at maximum by the axial offset 1V.
For example, if a conventional screw for fixing the window frame or door frame
5 is offset
out of the desired mounting plane to the height of a vertical offset 1V, then
the screw 1
according to the invention can be set at the position of the hitherto glazing
screw, and, after
the screw 1 is inserted through the window frame or door frame 5 into the
reveal 3, this screw
can still be rotated by a rotation angle of up to 180 so as to displace, at
this position, the
window frame or door frame 5 into the mounting plane by the axial offset 1V.
If a door frame of a house door of a house, which door frame is installed
vertically to a floor
of a residential building, is fixed at a longitudinal side [of the door], for
example the side with
the door lock, by two screws 1 according to the invention, for example at the
upper end to the
side of the ceiling and at the lower to the side of the floor, then the door
frame 5 can be
moved, at its upper end, into the house, for example by the vertical offset 1V
by rotationally
operating the screw 1 according to the invention at the upper end of the door
frame until the
axial offset 1V is directed into the house, and the door frame 5 can be moved,
at its lower end,
out of the house, for example by the vertical offset 1V by rotationally
operating the screw 1
according to the invention at the lower end of the door frame correspondingly
by at maximum
180 until the axial offset 1V is directed out of the house.
In such a case, four constellations are thus conceivable: 1.) The axial offset
1V of both screws
1 is directed into the house. 2.) The axial offset 1V of both screws 1 is
directed out of the
house. 3.) The axial offset 1V of the upper screw 1 is directed into the house
and the axial
offset of the lower screw 1 is directed out of the house. 4.) The axial offset
1V of the upper
CA 3027216 2020-02-28

7
screw 1 is directed out of the house and the axial offset of the lower screw 1
is directed into
the house. Due to these possibilities of variation, a large number of possible
misalignments of
glazing screws can be corrected in a simple manner.
In the manner described hereinbefore, the window frame or door frame 5 can
thus be moved
in the mounted state at the fixing point of the screw 1 according to the
invention by
rotationally operating the same perpendicular to the desired mounting plane
1M, at maximum
by the offset 1V. In this manner, the making of compensation bores or the
setting of a new
screw at another position upon misalignments of screws can be avoided.
The screw according to the invention may be a part of an assembling kit as is
disclosed in
DE 10 2010 030 281.
The screw threads 1GL, 1GR can be the same, as described above, i.e. have a
same thread
pitch and a same thread height and a same thread shape. Alternatively however,
the screw
threads 1GL and 1GR can differ, for example in respect of the thread pitch
and/or the thread
height and/or the thread shape.
