Claims

Claim 1st In a door closer, the combination, of a bracket B adapted to be secured to the architrave, or frame, of a door having a spindle journalled in it, in a line with the centre of the hinges, and having. bearings for a sliding bracket, or frame, the spindle C journalled in said bracket H, and having its cranked foot adapted to be secured to a door, and carrying a cam, a cam G secured to said spin¬dle C provided with a central frictional face g,having an indentation g1, and double spur rings g11, a pinion N H adapted to gear with said cam G, and having a frictional face h, and double spur rings h1, and fast upon a spindle H1 journalled in a sliding bracket I, a spring H11 coiled upon said spindle Hi, and having one end made fast thereto, and the other secured to a ratchet wheel Hill journalled upon said spindle Hi, a detent J pivoted in said bracket I, and gearing in the ratchet wheel H1111 operated by a spring Jii, and a thumb piece J1, a bracket I carrying the pinion Land having a stud II held slidingly in bearings on the brackets B, and excentrically to the spindle C,and cam G, and a compression spring Ii11 coiled upon said stud I1, and held adjustably thereon by a milled nut I1111, substantially as set forth. 2nd In a door closer, the combination of a bracket P adapt¬ed to be secured to the frame or architrave of a door, and provided with bearings for a vertical spindle, and for a sliding bracket, a ver¬tical spindle C journalled in said bracket in line with the centre of the door hinges, and adapted to have its cranked foot secured to a door and to carry a cam plate, a cam plate G having a friction face g with an indentation gi a pinion H having a friction face h adapted to gear with the cam plate G, and to enter the indentation g1, said pinion being upon a spindle, or axle, journalled in a sliding bracket I moving out of line or excentrically with the spindle C, a bracket having a stud, or pin I. held slidingly in bearings on the bracket B, and excentrically to the spindle C, a compression spring Iiii coiled upon said stud Ii,and held adjustably thereon by a milled nut I1111 substantially as set forth. 3rd In a door closer, the combination, of the bracket B having bearings b., bii, the threaded stud II carry¬ing a bracket I, and having a neck adapted to slide in the bearing 51, the milled nut Dm upon the stud II acting as adjustable stop for a coiled spring the coiled spring IIII placed between the bearing b11 and the nut I1111 and the milled nut IIIIII upon the extremity of the stud I1, and having a long hub sliding in the bearing bii, substantially as set forth.
