- an elongated base defining a panel receiving portion for receiving the
panel thereonto;
- a wheel mounted to the base; and
- a handle extending from the base substantially above the wheel.
2. The dolly as defined in claim 1, wherein the dolly only comprises a single
wheel.
3. The dolly as defined in claim 1 or 2, wherein the wheel is laterally offset
relative to the base.

PANEL CARRIER
Field of the invention
This invention is a tool meant to ease the carrying of 4' x 8' and 4' x 12'
plywood, drywall and
laminate panels by a single person.
Summary of the invention
It is well known that a panel is difficult for one person to carry. It is even
tiresome for two people to
carry for a long distance.
The innovation is the fact that the dolly stands by itself on the lower edge
of the panel near the point
of equilibrium. The handle of the dolly snaps against the panel, stabilizing
the dolly under the
weight of the panel. Once this is accomplished, it then becomes very easy for
one person to wheel
the panel, supported by the carrier, for long distances. Even turning can be
accomplished with
minimal effort.
The tool is composed of different elements listed here:
[1] : Angle iron vertical part
[2] : Angle iron horizontal part
[3] : U shaped metallic tube which will be called a handle
[4] : Upper, inclined part of the handle
[5] : Horizontal part of the handle
[6] : Handle extremities anchored to the horizontal part of the angle iron
[7] : Hard rubber wheel
[8] : Wheel axis
[9] : The carried panel
Description of the invention:
The tubular element U shaped [3] is inverted and anchored to the horizontal
section of the angle
iron [2]. The anchoring is performed on the free edge of the horizontal
section of the angle iron [6].
The two vertical sections [3] of the handle can be parallel or on an angle (as
represented on the
attached FIG.1 and FIG.3). From the side view, the two vertical sections of
the handle are
perpendicular to the horizontal section of the angle iron (see FIG.2). The
hard rubber wheel [7] is
situated between the 2 extremities of the handle, and is parallel to the
vertical section of the angle
iron 41]. The handle [3] presents a 30 degree deviation [4] on the opposite
side of the vertical
section of the angle iron [1]. The central, horizontal section of the U shaped
handle is large enough
to accommodate the user's hand.
Use of the invention:
When the tool is used to carry a panel, the tool is placed under the lower 8
or 12 foot side of the
panel at the center of the panel's edge. It can then be used not only to move
the product but also

transport it up stairs and ladders. The panel is held vertically over the
horizontal section of the
angle iron [2]. The user will stand close to the side of the handle, holding
the said handle by its
horizontal section [5] with his dominant hand. With his other hand, the user
will support the upper
edge of the panel. The user then has only one movement to accomplish in order
to lift the panel up
vertically: stand, straight up, without bending his elbow.
When there is a need to carry the panel for long distances, the panel carrier
will be placed under the
panel slightly in front of the panel's center (about 40/60). The user will
stand at the rear of the
panel and will use very little effort to raise the panel back extremity
(evaluated at 10 to 15 pounds).
The weight of the panel on the Panel Carrier will automatically close the
handle on the panel, which
will maintain the panel carrier vertically erected on its wheel.
