English Abstract

A sanitary device to relief tension in the jaw by applying vibration and
pressure to the inside, back of the
jaw muscles mimicking a traditional hand massage. This handheld device will be
weighty enough to
apply appropriate pressure with or without the vibration if desired. It is
also appropriate to use on the
outside of the jaw where the muscles are feeling tension, as well as at the
temples and back of the neck.
The device is made of a removable stainless-steel top for ease of cleaning and
rubber enclosed handle to
offer a firm, ergonomic, grip on the device. There are two sizes of heads
offered to accommodate
various mouth shapes.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

CLAIMS
1. A stainless steel device for massaging muscles in the oral cavity, the
temples and the back of the neck,
comprising a body (1) with detachable vibrating heads x2 (2) and a power unit
(3). The top is detachable
from the power unit, separating the top from the bottom portion containing the
rechargeable lithium
battery (4). The vibration mechanism (5) in the unit will be controlled by a
Power Switch (6) and
UP/DOWN arrows (6) to control the strength of the vibration. The unit securely
snaps together through
a Female/Male connector system (7). There is also an LED battery indicator
light (8) on the side of the
bottom section and a USB charge port (9) on the bottom of the Power Unit.
2. The top of the device operates through vibration with the ability to
increase or decrease the strength
of the vibration. The unit will operate at a frequency range of 20-26Hz
3. The device (1) according to any of the preceding claims, (2) comprises an
essentially rounded shape at
the top and will offer two sizes for different mouth shapes (to be included
together and not sold
separately)
4. A method for massaging muscles in the oral cavity of the mouth using a
device (1) comprising of two
detachable heads (2) and a power unit (3), wherein the massage unit (1) is
engaged with said muscles,
wherein the vibrating unit (2) massages the muscles in the oral cavity, outer
jaw, temples, and/or back
of neck through vibration or manual manipulation and pressure to relieve pain.
5. A method for reducing or eliminating tension in the jaw muscles, comprising
massaging muscles in the
oral cavity, outer jaw, temples, and/or back of neck using the device of any
of claims 1 - 4.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

BACKGROUND
Many people suffer from tension headaches from jaw clenching and/or jaw-
related issues and must
either rely on bulky massage equipment, or an expensive visit to a massage
therapist. Relief is often
found by either sticking one's own finger into the back of the mouth to apply
pressure to the muscles
there, or have the massage therapist do this to you.
DEVICE
My invention is designed to take the place of this potentially unsanitary and
invasive treatment by
allowing one to use a handheld, stainless steel device with the added benefit
of an optional vibrating
massage. The device is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery and offers
convenient pain
relief/management to the user for jaw-tension related pain. The unit consists
of two detachable,
stainless steel heads to offer two size options for various mouths. They
attach to the bottom part of the
unit which houses the battery and the vibration apparatus as well as the male
connector. This bottom
part is wrapped in ergonomically shaped rubber for added comfort to the user.
The ability to detach and
reattach the heads as well as being a cordless, rechargeable device offers the
added convenience of
portability and free use.
There is an ON/OFF button with UP/DOWN arrows on the side of the bottom part
of the device to allow
the user to turn on or off the vibration and control the level of vibration.
The two stainless steel heads
are slightly weighted as well to allow a good amount of pressure without
taxing the user's hand and
providing relief with or without the vibration. The steel is easily cleaned
and may be cooled with ice or
heated in boiling water.
This device is not limited to the oral muscles of the jaw either. Although
this is the main reason for the
invention, this device may also be used on the outer jaw muscles, the temples,
and base of the neck at
the back (places where tension headaches can create the most pain). The user
could also add a drop of
massage and or scented oil to the end of the steel head when using on the
outer skin and not in the
mouth.
USE
To use the device, one first charges the lithium battery with the provided
charging cable (USB/Plug-in).
When the indicator light, located on the side towards the bottom of the
device, stops flashing, the unit
is ready to go. Then one chooses a size option from the two heads and easily
secures the stainless steel
head by snapping its female connector found at the bottom of the steel head
onto the male connector
of the upper part of the bottom part of the device.
They can then either turn on the device and adjust the strength of the
vibration with the UP/DOWN
arrows. Or keep it off and just apply pressure to the affected areas. In
either case, the user will place the
head onto the affected area and apply slight pressure while moving the head
around a bit to massage.

BENEFITS
lntra oral massage work refers to the muscles being targeted for treatment
which are accessed by the
therapist inside the patient's mouth. There are a handful of muscles including
the medial and lateral
pterygoids, the masseter and buccinator that are targeted during the
treatment. These muscles give the
jaw ability to open, move, chew and clench.
