ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
An assembly for mounting a fishing reel by a fixed
sleeve secured to one end of the cylindrical body and a
slidable sleeve movably mounted in opposite relation to the
fixed sleeve. A conventional key way which has been em-
ployed as a guide way for the slidable sleeve, is used as a
guide way for locating the fixed sleeve, which aligns with
the slidable sleeve precisely and economically by extending
the key way to the end of the cylindrical body. The mounting
is of good quality yet cheap to produce.

Revendications

The embodiments of the invention in which an
exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as
follows:
1. An assembly for use in mounting a fishing
reel, the assembly comprising a cylindrical body having a
longitudinally-extending key way formed therein, a first
sleeve fixedly mounted upon the said body and having a
projection extending into the key way, a second sleeve
slidably mounted upon the body and having a projection
extending into the key way, the said projections each being
arranged to maintain its respective sleeve in a predeter-
mined rotational relationship with respect to the other,
and a screw ring rotatably mounted upon the body and in
screw threaded engagement with a threaded portion of the
body, the screw ring being in rotational engagement with
the second sleeve for movement of the second sleeve along
the body.
2. An assembly for use in mounting a fishing
reel as claimed in claim 1, in which a first portion of said
cylindrical body has an outside diameter larger than that of
the remaining portion, the outer diameter of the first
portion being slightly larger than the inner diameter of
the first sleeve.
3. An assembly for use in mounting a fishing
reel as claimed in claim 2, in which the said first portion
of the cylindrical body terminates in a collar.

,j
The present invention relates to an assembly for
mounting a fishing reel to a fishing rod.
A known assembly for mounting a fishing reel
comprises a cylindrical body to fit over a fishing rod. A
fixed sleeve i5 fitted over one end oE the cylindrical body.
A slidable sleeve fits over the cylindrical body in opposed
relation to the fixed sleeve. A screw ring is threaded on
the cylindrical body.
When mounting a reel onto a fishing rod with the
use of such an assembly, one end of a reel foot is inserted
into a hood of the fixed sleeve and a hood of the slidable
sleeve is fitted over the other end and subsequently clamped
by a screw ring behind the slidable sleeve. ~ -
In such an assembly the slidable sleeve is usually
of two types. One type has no guide mechanism of the
slidable sleeve which can freely rotate around the cylin-
drical body~ The other type has a guide mechanism, for
example a key way on its body and an inner projection on the
slidable sleeve which prevents rotation of the sleeve. ~-
A comparison of these two types from the viewpoint
of the reel-mounting operation indicates that the latter
type is superior.
Despite its excellent performance, however, the
latter type has been used in a very limited field because of
a substantial increase in the production cost compared with
the former type. In most cases, users are compelled to use
the type in which the slidable sleeve is fixed in place.
When the fixed sleeve is fixedly mounted onto the

cylindrical body, the hood of the fixed sleeve must correc-
tly align with the hood of the slidable sleeveO Such
locating of the fixed sleeve involves technical difficulties
and takes -time, thus rendering it impossible to raise pro-
duction efficiency. In addition, the rate of reject pro-
duction is high. These two factors are together responsible
for increases in the manufacturing cost. In this connec-
tion, it is noted that the type where the slidable sleeve is
rotatable can be manufactured with good productivity with no
rejects and the fixed sleeve can easily be mounted onto the
cylindrical body regardless of its fixing position.
The present invention seeks to obviate the above
two defects. That is, the present invention seeks to
provide an inexpensive but good quality assembly for mounting
reels by simplifying the mounting operation thereof as well
as saving the assembling cost and minimizing the rejection
of goods after assembly.
Accordingly, the present invention is for mounting
fishing reels, the assembly comprising a cylindric:al body
~0 having a longitudinally-extending key way formed t:herein,
a first sleeve fixedly mounted upon the said body and
having a projection extending into the key way, a second
sleeve slidably mounted upon the body and having a projec-
tion extending into the key way, -the said project:ions each
being arranged to maintain its respective sleeve :i.n a
predetermined rotational relationship with respect to the
other, and a screw ring rota-tably mounted upon the body
and in screw threaded engagement with a threaded portion
of the body, the screw ring being in rotational erlgagement
with the second sleeve for movement of the second sleeve
...

along the body.
With the invention it is possible to locate the
fixed sleeve at a desired position easily and economically.
Further features and advantages of the present
invention will be made in the following description, re-
ference being made to the accompanying drawings illustrating
one embodiment thereof. In the drawings:-
Figure l is a cross-sectional view of a preferred
embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a bottom view of a cylindrical body of
the preferred embodiment; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the preferred
embodiment of the present invention.
In the drawings a cylindrical body 1 to be mounted
onto a fishing rod (not shown), is provided on its outer
surface with a key way 2 extending substantially from its
rear to its front end. The key way 2 has two functions.
First, it acts as a guide way for a fixed sleeve 3 from the
rear end of the cylindrical body l to its front end 4.
; 20 Secondly, it acts as a guide way for a slidable sleeve 5.
The fixed sleeve 3 and the slidable sleeve 5 are provided on
their inner surfaces with projections 6 and 6', respect-
ively, which are in turn in slidable engagement with the key
way 2.
The fixed sleeve 3 is slipped on and tightly
fitted over the front end portion 4 of the cylindrical body
l for its fixation. In order to permit sufficient fixation,
this end portion has an outside diameter slightly larger
than the inside diameter of the fixed sleeve 3.
Of course, the rest of the outside diameter of the
cylindrical body 1 is made slightly smaller than the inside

diameter of the fixing sleeve 3. Moreover, the cylindrical
body 1 is provided at its end with a collar 7 integral with
cylindrical body 1 to abut the fixed sleeve 3 when it is
forced over the body for fixation. This construction
prevents disengagement of the fixing sleeve 3 from the
cylindrical body 1, correctly locates the same and avoids
disengagement of the fixing sleeve 3 during use.
The slidable sleeve 5 is opposed to the fixed
sleeve 3 and is mounted such that it moves along the rest of
the body. The mechanism for moving the slidable sleeve 5
comprises an external threaded portion 8 provided in the
vicinity of, and on a given range of, the rear end of the
cylindrical body 1, and a screw ring 9 formed of, e.g.,
synthetic resin, which is in threaded engagement with the
external thread portion. Turning the screw ring 9 moves the
slidable sleeve 5 in the forward directionO It will be noted
that the sliding sleeve 5 may be separated from or connected
to the screw ring 9. When they are connected to each other,
it is required that one be rotatably snap-fitted over the
other.
As described in detail, locating of the fixing
sleeve according to the present invention is carried out
with the aid of the key way extending substantially from the
rear to the front end of the cylindrical body. This pre-
ven-ts occurrence of inferior goods which, in the prior art,
have been caused by misalignment. Firm fixation of the
fixed sleeve can easily and firmly be attained by pressure-
fitting.
With these constructions and effects, the present
invention provides a fishing reel-mounting assembly which is

of high quality and is suitable for mass production at a low
cost. It will, of course, be understood that the operation
for mounting the reel onto the fishing rod with, the use of
this assembly may be effected in known manner, and~ excels in
performance as the fixed sleeve is located relati~e to the
slidable sleeve as described above.
