    Country code issues

As of December 13, 2010, a technical issue has affected the display of inventor information. In some instances, the country of origin may appear as "Not Available". Searches using the "Inventor Country" field may be affected by this issue.

CIPO is currently working to correct this issue and will provide an update as soon as it is resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For more information, please contact Alain Houde, Program Manager, Patent IT Systems at 819-997-6980.

    Improved Bilingual Search Capability

CIPO has added an improved bilingual search capability to help you to conduct searches in both English and French on the Basic Search pages of the Canadian Patents Database, the Canadian Trade-Marks Database and the Canadian Industrial Designs Database. This feature will help to ensure that your search query includes more terms; thereby you should have an increased results list. This improvement will be of interest to those of you who know your search criteria in one of Canada's official languages but not in the other. If you do not wish to make use of this feature, you can still conduct a simple basic search.

Notice in respect of interested party names

A recent quality check of the Canadian Patents Database revealed that only the first 72 characters of the names of interested parties (i.e., inventor, applicant, owner) were displayed in the detail pages of the patent documents searched. This problem has been corrected. We apologize for any inconvenience experienced.
