English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A tape strip assembly for a disposable diaper which
has an absorbent pad between a backing sheet and a top sheet.
The tape strip assembly includes a base tape with a first adhe-
sive securing a portion of said base tape to the backing sheet.
A releasable strip is secured by second adhesive means to the
base tape with a third adhesive being on the releasable strip
so that after initial attachment of the releasable strip to the
backing sheet after first positioning on the user, the releasable
strip can be peeled from the base tape to allow repositioning of
the diaper.

Claims

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. A tape strip assembly for a disposable article having
a backing sheet, said tape strip assembly including a base
tape, first adhesive means securing a portion of said base tape
to said backing sheet, a releasable strip, second adhesive
means securing said releasable strip to said base tape, and
third adhesive means on said releasable strip for attachment of
said releasable strip to another portion of said diaper, said
diaper including an absorbent pad on said backing sheet, and a
top sheet overlying said absorbent pad, a release sheet on said
top sheet, said tape strip assembly being folded over so that
said third adhesive means removably secures said tape strip
assembly to said release sheet until positioning of the diaper
about an infant, said second adhesive means having less adhesive
affinity for said releasable strip than said third adhesive
means has for said backing sheet, said third adhesive means
having less affinity for said release sheet than said second
adhesive means has for said releasable strip, said second
adhesive means having less affinity for said releasable strip
than said third adhesive means has for said backing sheet so
that after initial use said releasable strip acts to release
said base tape and said second adhesive means for further
positioning on an infant.

BACKGROUND OF THF INVENTION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

Thls invention relates to dlsposable dlapers or the
like and Gore particularly to a tape strip assembly for enabling
repositioning of a diaper on an infant

~sa~
In the past dlapers of various types haze been produced
employlng an absorbent pad between a top sheet and a backing sheet
formed of htwei~ht waterproof materlal such as polyethylene
Tape strlps hAving sel~-stick pressure sensitive type adhesires
ore used for ~asten~ng the dipper on an infant. When the tape
strlp ls adhered to to backing strlp, it is often difficult to
ra~ove wlthout tearing the backing sheet so as to permit reposi~
tionln~ ox a poorly ~itt~d diaper or reuse ox the diaper when
wound to be lmsoiled~
Previously varlous expedients hove been used in an
attempt to overcome the ~ores~d dl~l¢ult~esO To thls end the
baeklng sheet has been mada ox a heavier grade polyethylene sheet
but not only has thus proven too e~penslve~ but the heavier grade
b~ckin~ sheet has rendered the diaper less plla~le ana com~ortabl~
to the userO
e~ker adhesives have been utlllzed 9 but thls has the
dlsa~vanta~e that the diaper may Hall ox upon ~trenuolls movem2nt

Accordingly, the present invention overcomes the dis-
advantages of -the prior problem solutions by providing or a
diaper tape strip assembly renderiny the diaper repositionable
and reuseable.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
. . .
The present invention provides a tape strip assembly
for a disposable article having a backing sheet, said tape strip
assembly including a base tape, first adhesive means securing a
portion of said base tape to said backing sheet, a releasable
strip, second adhesive means securing said releasable strip to
said base tape, and third adhesive means on said releasable
strip for attachment of said releasable strip to ano-ther por-
tion of said diaper, said diaper including an absorben-t pad on
said backing sheet, and a top sheet overlying said absorbent
pad, a release sheet on said top sheet, said tape strip assembly
being folded over so that said third adhesive means removably
secures said -tape strip assembly to said release sheet until
positioning of the diaper about an infant, said second adhesive
means having less adhesive affinity for said releasable strip
than said third adhesive means has for said backing shee-t, said
third adhesive means having less affinity for said release
sheet than said second adhesive means has for said releasable
strip, said second adhesive means having less affini-ty for said
releasabl.e strip than said third adhesive means has for said
backing sheet so that after ini-tial use said releasable strip
acts to release said base tape and said second adhesive means
for Eurther positioning on an infan-t.

In use, the tape strip assembly is employed to Eas-ton the diapcr
on the infant. Should the diaper be poorly positioned or desired to bo
reused because it is unsoiled the lesser afEinity of the adhesive 26 -Eor

adhesive 26 not only facilitating removal of the diaper without tearing
of the backing sheet but also permitting reuse ox the diaper with base tape
22 and adhesive 26 as the new tab for securement purposes.
