English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

This invention relates to razors, and more
particularly to the handles of razors.
In one form of razor in accordance with the
invention the handle is of ladder-like construction having
two longitudinally extending side pieces united by a
number of transverse flat webs and an end closure. The
side pieces,in the form of flat strips, lie in planes
inclined to one another such that the handle is narrowest
at its end remote from the head of the razor.
The webs lie in substantially parallel planes
inclined to the longitudinal axis of the handle, such that
when viewed from the front or rear the spaces between
adjacent webs appear to be closed, or largely closed.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:-

1. A one-piece razor having a head and a handle, said handle
consisting solely of two longitudinally-extending side pieces
which are spaced apart from one another by a plurality of
transverse flat webs, said webs lying in planes which are
inclined to the longitudinal axis of said handle and defining with
said longitudinally-extending pieces a plurality of open-ended
apertures which extend from front to back of said handle, said
transverse flat webs providing a ladder-like construction and
providing strength with economy of material.

2. A one-piece razor according to Claim 1, wherein said
longitudinally-extending side pieces lie in planes inclined to
one another, the handle being narrowest at its end remote from the
head.

Description

:`~
This invention relates to razors.
,~
In particular, but not exclusively, the invention relates
to razors of the kind which utilise shaving units. By the term
` 'shaving unit' is meant a substantially rigid member, generally
of plastics material, to which is secured one or more razor
ij, blades each having one or more cutting edges, the rigid member
:ii
providing a guard surface for the cutting edge or cutting edges.
According to the present invention there is provided a
razor having a handle of ladder-like construction.
~` 10 In one construction according to the invention the handle
has two longitudinally-extending members united by a plurality
.l of transverse members.
~' One construction of razor in accordance with the invention
.i
will now be described, by way of example only, with reference
to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the rear of the razor,
Figure 2 is a side view of the razor,
Figure 3 is a front view of the razor,
~ Figure 4 is a plan view, and
'~
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line V-V
in Figure 3.
In the construction illustrated, the razor utilises a
~ shaving unit 10 having a razor blade 11 with a cutting edge lla,
`ii~ the shaving unit 10 being of the form described and illustrated
~5 in the specification of British Patent 1 294 666. The shaving

; unit lO is secured in the razor in a non-detachable manner, the
intention being that when the razor blade 11 is n~ longer fit
for use the complete razor is discarded.
Opposite ends of the shaving unit 10 lie on respective end
pieces 12a (Figure 2) of the head 12 of the razor with a flange
12b of the head partly overlapping the shaving unit lO from the
rear. Lugs 12c at the forward end of each end piece 12a extend
into a respective end recess lOa in the shaving unit to retain
: the shaving unit between the end pieces 12a and the flange 12b.
` 10 The handle 13 of the razor is of ladder-like construction
having two longitudinally extending side pieces 13a united by
a number of transverse flat webs 13b and an end closure 13c.
The side pieces 13a, in the form of flat strips, lie in planes
i inclined to one another such that the handle is narrowest at its
' 15 end remote from the head of the razor. Grooves 13d are formed
~ .
on the outer surface of each side piece 13a opposite the webs
13b to facilitate gripping of the handle.
The webs 13b lie in substantially parallel planes inclined
to the longitudinal axis of the handle 13, such that when viewed
from the front or rear (see Figures 1 and 3) the spaces between
adjacent webs 13b appear to be closed, or largely closed.
By virtue of the ladder-like construction it is possible
to obtain strength with economy of material, as well as providing
a novel appeal to the eye.
It will be understood that although the invention has been

described with respect to a disposable razor, the same form of
construction can be applied to holders of the kind where the
; shaving unit is replaceable and the holder retained, as well
as to razors d-esigned to utilise replaceable razor blades of
` 5 the kinds well known before the advent of shaving units.
