English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A surgical support is provided for firmly holding the
hand and fingers during surgery performed thereon. The support
has the shape of an open hand with spread fingers, and detachable
elastic rings are provided to fit over the support fingers to
hold the fingers on them when the hand is placed on the support.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A surgical support for firmly holding the hand
and fingers during surgery performed thereon and having the shape
of a hand with spread fingers in plan view and having a uniformly
thick cross-section and provided with detachable elastic rings
adapted to be slipped over the support fingers for holding
the fingers on them when the hand is placed on the support.
2. A surgical support according to claim 1, wherein
the support consists of polypropylene.
3. A surgical support according to claim 1 or claim 2
wherein the rings are made of polyvinyl chloride.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

376

The invention relates to a surgical support for firmly
holding the hand and fingers durLng surgery per~ormed thereon.
In this kind o~ surgery it is known to retain the
hand on a lead support while the thumb, the index finger and the
little finger are held by straps After the straps have been
used several times they break ofE easily. Moreover, because of
the weight of the lead support it is not possible, during surgery,
to move said support with the hand fixed thereon.
It is the aim of the invention to design a support
of the kind mentioned at the outset by means of which the fingers
can be easily held and which permits the support to be moved ~-
along with the hand even during surgery and which also has a long
useful life.
Accordingly, the invention provides a surgical support
for firmly holding the hand and fingers during surgery performed
thereon and having the shape of an open hand with spread fingers,
and provided with detachable elastic rings adapted to be slipped
over the support fingers for holding the fingers on them when
the hand is placed on the support.
The advantage of a support according to the invention,
as compared with the prior art, lies in that any part of the
hand and of the fingers is readily accessible to the surgeon.
On placing the hand on the support and slipping the elastic
rings simultaneously over the support fingers and the fingers of
the hand the support can be moved simultaneously with the hand.
This permits great variability and mobility during an operation.
-- In a further development of the invention the support
can consist of polypropylene and the detachable elastic rings
~- can be made of polyvinyl chloride. The support can be sterilized
by means of known methods. The material is resistant particularly
to iodine and chrominum halides. Moreover the material of the
support can be subjected to high thermal and mechanical loads.

; The invention will now be described in more detail,
by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying
drawings, in which:
Figure i shows a plan view of a surgical support
according to the invention with three elastic rings slipped
over the support fingers,
Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1 from above in
order to show the width of the support, and
Figure 3 shows an elastic ring.
The surgical support for firmly holding the hand
and fingers during surgery performed thereon comprises a support
1 having the shape of an open hand with spread fingers. Detach-
able and elastic rings 3,4 are slipped over said support fingers.
The support is normally made oE polypropylene and the rings
of polyvinyl chloride. The surgical support is resistant
- particularly to iodine and chrominum halides and can be
subjected to high thermal and mechanical loads. Moreover,
it can be sterilized by means of known methods.
In order to perform surgery on a hand or fingers, the
hand to be operated on is placed on the support and the elastic
rings are slipped simultaneously over the support fingers 2 and
over the fingers of the hand. The rings then fix the hand
immovably to the support.
