English Abstract

K-57664
ABSTRACT
A disposable urinal which is expendable and intended
to be destroyed after use. The urinal is constructed of
molded fiber pulp material such as that used in egg cartons
and is formed of mating upper and lower sections which are
glued together to form the complete urinal.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A substantially hollow disposable urinal formed
as an assembly of mating top and bottom sections, each section
being molded to self-retaining shape from fibrous pulp material,
flanges extending from the lowermost portion of the top section
and the uppermost portion of the bottom section, each molded
section being free of reverse drafts or overhangs, and means
for adhering together the flanges of the top and bottom sections
to form a substantially rigid non-collapsible urinal, each
section being formable in simple molding dies on a conventional
molding machine at rapid speed, nestable with similar sections
during shipment to a desired location and assemblable for use
at said desired location into a one-piece urinal by means of
said adhering means.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

Thc uso of reu~able urin~ls constructed o~ metal or
rigid pla~tic in hospitals and other institutions presents a
number of disadvantages4 Following use~ they mu9t be emptied~
¢leaned and ~terilized and then stored ~or ~urther use~ In
add~tion, personnol must be hired to car~y out the above menial
ta~ks.
In an attempt to overcoma the above disadvantages, a
number o~ disposable urinal~ have been developed as dlsclosed,
~or instance~ in U,S. Paten~ 3,163,868; 3,3?9,g73; 3~579~653
and 3~731~8690 .However~ the urinals dis¢losed in the~e patenks
aro ~ormed ~rom oa~dboard, plastic material and paper which
materi~ls require waterproo~ing or must in¢lude impervious
liners to pr~ent leal~age~ In addition~ the patented urinal~
are rormed from complicated collap~ible paperboard~ or are
~ormed ~rom ~lat ~heet work folded to ~orm the u~lts~ Other
patent~ disclo~e semi-rigid one~plece receptacl~s~
It i~ also known that molded fiber urinals have been
made ln the past as a single molded unlt using complicRted and
expenslve dles~ U~S. Patants 27115~7227 2~1Ll9~879; 2J20L~276
and 2,961~043 illustrate method~q and tooling for molding ona-
piece hollow article.q with a nsGk which i~ smaller than ik3

The pre~ent inv~ntion relate~ to a dlsposabla urinal
which i~ formed from m~ting upper and lower ~ections made o~
mold~d pulp material ~uGh Q~ u~ed ~or making egg ¢arton~ . ~he
two section~ are ~orm~d on ~impl~ molding dies on a conventior~l

their lowermost and uppermo~t borders r~speatively. The~0
ed~e~ are adhered togeth0r preferabl~ by glue to form a unltary
structu~e of the two mat~ng section~ The urinal includes a
mouth~ neck and a body or liquid collecting porklon and has a
shape or design similar to known urlnal~.
Advantage~ o~ the two plece urinal of th~ present
inventlon over the slngle molded oontainer are ~aster moldlng

space are requir~d a~su~ing that the piece9 are adhere~

term p~ients such as ve~erans'~acilitle~9 the assembly o~ tha
unit~ could be part o~ a work-therapy programO In a large city
with many hosp~tals in a given area, ~he assembly o~ the part~
could be done by a distributor who would assemble to o~d~r,
thus taking advantage of' the shippin~ and storage spa¢e ~a~ings
mantioned above~

The urinal 1 inoludes a mouth 11 as found in known
urinals to receivs t'ne male organ, a neck portion 12~ and a

To form the cornplete~ urlnal, the top and bottom
sections 3 and 5 are molded ~rom ~bbr pulp materlal on a

one or both o~ the ~langes 7 and 9 which are then pre~sed
together to ~orm a ti~ht seal or ~eam between the two ~ections
whereby a unitary urinal ls ~ormed~
