F.XTERT ~ (7RADE PO_YVINYL C7-~LOR.CDE_'ILM
rrechn~cal Field
~his invention relates ko a polyvinyl chloride film
that exhibits resistance to ~iscoloration upon exposure
~or 275 and pref'erably for 400 hours in a General Products
Ultra-Violet Accelerometer. Alt}lough polyvlnyl chloride
film is widely used it is known that polyvinyl chloride
does not stand up well upon exposure to sunlight.
Therefore the automobl~e inc~ust,ry uses acrylic films or
films o~her than vinyl chloride where clear or non-
discoloring laminates are desired.
Disclosure of the Inventiorl
We have discovered that polyvinyl chloride can be
compounded and a film be produced there~rom that
unexpectedly exhibits color stability f'or ~'15 hours and
preferably for 400 hours in a General Products IJltra-
Violet Accelerometer Model No. NST-A. In some respects
the resulting film is equivalent to lO0 percent acryllc
film which has been accepted for prolonged sunlight
exposure.
We have discovered a polyvinyl chlori.de film
exhibiting resistance to discoloration upon exposure
for 275 hours in a General Products Ultra-Vlolet
Accelerometer, said film being composed of a polyvinyl
chloride plasticized with a polymeric polyester adipate
with a viscosity o~ 3000 to 7000 centistokes at 25C
and an epoxidized soybean oil and containing stabilizing
amounts of tris-nonylphenyl phosphite, Ba-Cd-Zn stabiliæer
and 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl) benzotriazole.
3 Preferably the film of this invention is plasticized with
poly-2-ethylhexyl adipate.
Best Mo _ for Carryin~ Out the Invention
The film of this invention can be formed in conven-
tional manner from polyvinyl chloride compos:t.tions which
have been compounded on a mill according to the resi.pes
of Table I before being formed into a film of ~he ~auge
