English Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure

This invention relates to a fireplace insulator that blocks
off the flue opening. It is inserted in underlying rela-
tionship to the fireplace damper. The insulator is similar
in construction to an air mattress with sealed together
strips and air receiving pockets therebetween. A depending
inflation hose has a warning label affixed to it that the
flue is closed. At least one sealed together strip is
slitted to accommodate the damper handle. In assembly, the
insulator is compressed at its ends and along its sides to
effectively block the entry of cold air.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive
property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. In a fireplace having a damper, a damper handle and
a flue opening, an inflatable insulator insertable
under the damper in a compressed state and having at
least one slit in a sealed portion of the insulator
to receive the damper handle.

2. The insulator of claim 1 wherein a depending inflation
tube has a warning that the flue is closed.

3. The insulator of claim 2 wherein the range of its
inflation determines its deformability.

Description

Abstract of the Disclosure

This invention relates to a fireplace insulator that blocks
off the flue opening. It is inserted in underlying rela-
tionship to the fireplace damper. The insulator is similar
in construction to an air mattress with sealed together
strips and air receiving pockets therebetween. A depending
inflation hose has a warning label affixed to it that the
flue is closed. At least one sealed together strip is
slitted to accommodate the damper handle. In assembly, the
insulator is compressed at its ends and along its sides to
effectively block the entry of cold air.

This invention relates to a fireplace insulator that pre-
vents heat loss up the chimney when inserted in underlying
relationship to the damper, which is an essential component
of fireplace construction. Stated differently, the
insulator blocks off the entry of cold air into the room.

The insulator is similar in construction to an air mattress
with deformability or compressibility that adapts it to
various throat openings in the damper area.

Sealed together strips alternate with air receiving pockets
in a rectangular perimeter. A depending inflation hose has
a warning label affixed to it that the flue is closed. At
least one sealed together s-trip is slitted to accommodate
the damper handle.

In further description of the invention reference is made
to the accompanying drawings wherein,
Figure 1 shows end compression on the insulator,
Figure 2 shows side compression on the insulator
and, Figure 3 shows the insulator in free inflated
form.

-2~

As shown in Figure 1, insulator 1 underlies damper 2 and
is compressed or deformed at its ends for a snug Eit in
the throat area of the Elue. An inflation tube is shown
at 3.

As shown in Fi~ure 2, the insulator is compressed along
its sides to further ens-ure a snug fit and a full closure
of the flue opening.

Figure 3 shows the insulator in its free form and inflated.
Within a rectangular perimeter it has air cells and sealed
strips between the cells. At least one sealed strip is
slitted to provide an opening for a damper handle.

It is thus seen that the device of this invention prevents
unused fireplaces from losing inside heat or allowing
ingress of cold air.
