English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
In apparatus for applying pieces of fabric to manufactured articles
of tubular shape, and especially to panty hose, a photoelectric cell is
employed to reveal the presence of the manufactured article on its stand and
to bring the fabric close to the article in the corresponding station only if
the article is present on its stand. In order to have both the fabric and the
article rotated, in the corresponding clipping station, by an angle greater
than 360°, so that one border of the fabric reaches, in the following sewing
station, a position different from the position of arrival at the said clipping
station, a device is used that controls the rotation of the stand supporting
the manufactured article. Such a device can be, for instance, a reader provided
with a programmed memory so that the readout from a graduated cylindrical scale
is stored in the memory and, as soon as the rotation is completed by the amount
stored in the memory, the said device arrests the rotation of the stand. In
order to have both the fabric and the manufactured article rotated, at the
sewing station, by an angle greater than 360° so that the seam is made, without
discontinuity, along the entire border of the article, another device, similar
to the previous one, is used.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A control device for a carrousel-type machine for applying
a gusset to a pantyhose article, said carrousel-type machine
having a rotatable support adapted for having a pantyhose article
applied thereto, said control device comprising:
means for verifying the presence or absence of the pantyhose
article on the support;
means for reading a cylindrical, uniform graduation integral
with the support; and
means responsive to said verifying means and said reading
means for transferring the gusset to said support only when said
verifying means indicates the presence of the panty hose article
on said support and to insure that said support rotates through
at least 360° so that the carousel-type machine is operable only
when a gusset is in place and to insure the complete sewing along
the entire perimeter of the gusset.
2. The control device of claim 1, wherein said verifying
means is provided at a gusset feeding station of the carrousel-
type machine.
3. The device of claim 1, wherein said verifying means
controls a pincer of the carrousel-type machine for transferring
the gusset only when the article is present on the support.
4. The control device of claim 1, wherein the cylindrical
uniform graduation integral with the support includes several equal,
equidistant divisions on a cylindrical collar secured on the
support for identification by said reading means.
-4-

5. The control device of claim 1, wherein said reading
means is provided at a smoothing station and a sewing station
of the machine.
6. The device of claim 1, wherein said verifying means is
a photocell and said reading means is an electronic reader.
7. The device of claim 1, wherein a plurality of equidistant
divisions is provided on said rotatable support, and said reading
means includes an electronic reader having a memory for comparing
the number of equidistant divisions through which the rotatable
support rotates and means for stopping rotations of said rotatable
support when the angular rotations thereof exceed 360°, and
corresponding to the number of divisions of said memory.
8. The device of claim 7, wherein, the gusset is of polygonal
form having n sides, and said stopping means stops the rotation
of the support after it has rotated through an angle of 360°+360°/n.
9. The device of claim 7, wherein the gusset has a square
configuration, and said stopping means stops the rotations of the
support after it has rotated through an angle of 360° plus 180°.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

8~
The pres-ent invention realtes to apparatus used to apply pieces of
fa~xic to manufactured axticles, and especlall~ to pant~ hose.
It is kno~n from other patents of the present applicant that a
rotating fixture can be used to appl~ a piece of fabric to panty hose. The
fixture includes several stations. ln the first station the manufactured
article is positioned in such a ~ay that lts seamless border can be stretched
on a suita~le annular support. A second station is used or pne~matically
overturning the article into the interior of the said supportO ~ third station
is used to transf~r the piece of fabric under the stretched border of the article.
~ fourth station is used for clipping both the fabric and the stretched border
of the article, the cut being done right above the seam. A ifth station is
used to se~ the fabric to the articleO
At the si-te of ~he third station a device is installed for cutting
the fabric from a continuous ribbon. This device is continuously operating.
Another device which is also continuously opexating is that which brings the
fabric to the stand supporting the manufactured article. These devices are
al~ays operating in the sense that they operate wheth0r or not the article is
present on its s-tandO Consequently, the ~abric is wasted when the article is
not available on its stand. The present invention aims at correcting this
situation. In additlon to doing so it also provides a means of controlling the
rotation of the fabric as well as the manufactured article, at the site of the
clipping station, by an angle greater than 360, in order to have, as a more
suitable place for se~ing, the front side of the fabric3 at the site of the
follo~ing se~ing station, in a position different from the position of arrival
at the clipping station, If the fabxic has a square shape, the rotation should
preferably be 360 ~ 180o If the fabric has a polygonal shape with n sides,

the rotation should preEerably be 360 ~ 360. Moreover, the
invention aims at controlling also the rotation of the article
and of the fabric, at the site of the sewing station, by an angle
greater than 360, in order that a continuous seam along the
circular border of the article is made.
These results are achieved, according to the invention,
by providing a control device for a carrousel-type machine for
applying a gusset to a pantyhose article, said carrousel-type
machine having a rotatable suppcrt adapted for having a pantyhose
article applied thereto, said control device comprising: means
for verifying the presence or absence of the pantyhose article on
the support; means for reading a cylindrical, uniform graduation
integral with the support; and means responsive to said verifying
means and said reading means for transferring the gusset to said
support only when said verifying means indicates the presence of
the panty hose article on said support and to insure that said
support rotates through at least 360 so that the carousel-type
machine is operable only when a gusset is in place and to insure
the complete sewing along the entire perimeter of the gusset.
Several advanta~es result from the present invention. They
are mainly the following: the ribbon from which the piece of fabric
is cut is now fully utilized, without any waste; the seam of the
fabric has no defects and is continuous around the circular border
of the manufactured article; the seam of the fabric is now exactly
the same for all the manufactured articles.
Reference is now made to the accompanying drawings, in

~ eferring to Figure 1, in its essence a device used to reveal the
presence of the manufactured article, at the time when the piece of fabric is
being moved, consists of a photoelectric cell ~101) capable o~ revealing the

~eferring to Figure 2 of the enclosed dra~yings~ a device that
controls the angular rotation of the stand supporting the manufactured article
includes a graduated ring ~102) mounted on support stand ~2) for the manufactured
article, The ring is provided with an even cylindrical graduation made up of
several equal, straight, and equidistant divisions ~103), all parallel to the
axis of stand ~2), formed in su~h a way that they can be revealed by a detector
and read by an electronic reading device ~104)~ Such device is provided with a
memory pro~l 3d to remember a given number o divisions ~103) and to arrest
the rotation of the stand ~2) as soon as the latter has completed the rotation
in front of reader (104) by an angle, always greater than 360, equal to that
corresponding to the number of divisions stored in the memory.
