English Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
Improved buckle in particular a sliding buckle which
principally consists of a clasp, a transverse connection
extending through the clasp, and a toothing installed along
one side of the buckle on the front transverse part of the
clasp. The toothing is situated on top of a flange
protruding out of the surface of the buckle whereby the
teeth thus formed show a triangular form in a perpendicular
longitudinal section with regard to the buckle, of which one
flank stands perpendicular on the surface of the buckle,
while a second flank is slanting and extends from the
perpendicular flank to the opening of the clasp.

the buckle, each tooth having one flank which stands
perpendicular on the surface of the buckle and a second
flank which is slanting and extends from the perpendicular
flank to the opening of the clasp.

2.- Improved buckle according to claim 1, used as a sliding
buckle, further comprising at least one further toothing
installed along the transverse connection.

3.- Improved buckle according to claim 2, characterised in

of a belt.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

~L3~7879

The present invention relates to an i.mproved buckle, more
especially A sliding buckle.

In particular the invention has a buckle as object which
enables a very efficient clamping of a belt extremity, for
example of a band.

According to the present invention, there is provided
an improved buckle which principally consists of a clasp
having an opening and comprising a front transverse part in
front o~ the opening; a transverse connection extending
through the opening of the clasp; and a first toothing
installed along one cide of the buckle on a flange
protruding out of the sur~ace o~ the buckle and provided on
the ~ront transverse part oE the clasp, characterised in
that said fir~t toothing is situated on top o~ the flange,
whereby teeth o~ 6aid fir6-t toothing show a triangular
~orm in a perpendicular longitudinal section with regard to
the buckle, each tooth having one flank which stands
perpendicular on the surface of the buckle and a second
flank which is slanting and extends f rom the perpendicular
flan~ to the opening of the clasp.

This buckle permits that the free extremity of a belt can be
guided over 270 degrees around the transverse connection
consequently to pass between the clasp and the rising part
of the belt.

Through the tightening of the belt the advantageous effect
develops that the free extremity i5 pressed against the
aforementioned toothing by means of the rising part of the
belt through which the force with which the belt is clamped
in the buckle i5 notably increased.

According to a preferred embodiment, one or more further
toothings are also installed on the transverse connection,
which extends straight through the buckle, in com~ination
with the aforementioned toothing, such to still greater
c~unt~ract the release of the tightene~ be:Lt in the buckle.

In order to show better the characteristics according to
the present invention, some preferred embo~iments are
described hereafter, as examples and without any
restrictive character, with reference to the enclosed
drawings, in which:

figure 1 shows the buckle accordiny to the invention;
figure 2 shows a cross-section accord.ing to line
II-II in figure 1;
figure 3 shows a cross-section according to line
III-III in figure 2;
figure 4 shows a variant;
figure 5 shows a vi~w according to arrow F5 in
figure 4;
fiyure 6 shows another variant;
fi~ure 7 shows a cross-section according to line
VII-VII in figure ~.

As shown in igures 1 and 2 the buckle 1 principally
consists of a preferably practically rectangular clas~.) 2
which is connected close to one extremity 3 with a belt 4,
a transverse connection 5 extending through the clasp ~,
and a toothing 8 installed along at least one side 6 of
the buckle 2 on the front transverse part 7 of 'che clasp 2.

The buckle permits that the Eree extremity 9 of the belt 4
is guided over 270 degrees around the transverse
connection 5, consequently to pass between the front
transverse part 7 and the rising part 10 of the belt 4.
With the tightening of the belt 4 by pulling on the freQ
extremity 9, the latter is, ~y means of the part 1 n

pressed with force Oll the toothing 8 such that apart from
the normal frictional resistance which exists in the
buckle, an extra .resistance force is offered ~y the
tootl1ing 8 acting on the free extremity 9. The optimum
.lampinc3 effect is obtained when the toothing 8 is
precisely next to the inner edge 11 of ~he clasp 2. In
order still to increase the effect the toothin~ 8 is
preferably situated 0l1 top of a flange 12 protruding out
of t.he surface of the buckle 1, all of which as shown in
figures 2 and 3.

As still visible in figure 3 the toothing 8 ~referably
consists of a series o pointed teeth 13.

As ~shown in figure 2 these teeth 13 disE)lay a triangular
form in a perpendicular longitudinal section with regard
to the buckle, whereby one flank 14 stands ~rpendicular
on the surface of the buckle 1, while a second flank 15 is
slanting and extends from the perpendicular flank 14 to
the opening 16 of the clasp 2. By this it is achieved that
the belt 4 easily slides over the toothing 8 when this is
tightened, but can with difficulty move in the opposlte
manner due to the teeth 13 operating as barbs in this case.
. . .
As shown in figures 4 and 5 a second toothin~ 17 Call also
be provided on the transverse connection 5, in combination
with the aforelnentioned toothing 8. The toothing 17
preferable con3is.s o~ teeth 18 which extend out of the
aforementioned opening 16.

In the most pref~rred embodiment, a~cording to figures 6
and 7 use is also niade oE a third toothing 19 in addition
to the aforementioned toothings 8 and 17 which like the
toothing 17 is installed on the transverse connection 5.
It is found on the side 20 of the buckle 1 which is
situated opposite to the aforementioned side ~ where the
toothing 8 is found. The second and third toothings 17 and
19 are preferably situated next to one same edge 21 of the
transverse connection 5.

The ~uckle according to the invention also offers the
advantage that it can simply be manufactured of plastic,
such as an injection moulding. This also of~ers the
advantage that the buckle 1 can be permanently moulded to
the belt 4 by means of a suitabl~ extension 22, as visible
in figures 1 and 2.

The buckle 1 permits particularly yood tighter.ing
possibilities when use is made o a belt 4 consisting of a
woven band, for example of synthetic fibre, 3uch as nylon.

It i~ clear that the toothing 8 can also be installed
along both sides 6 and 20 of the buckle 1. Such offers the
advantage that when attaching the belt specific attention
need not be paid to by which side the free extremity 9
mu~l. first be guided through tlle buckle 2.

As visible in the figures 2, 4 and 6 the parts o~ the
buckle opening 16 situated along both sides of the
transverse connection 5 are preferably produced widened in
the direction of their extremities along which the belt is
introduced, such to facilitate putting the belt 4 into the
clasp 2.

The present invention is in no way restricted to the
embodiments described as examples and shown in the
drawings, but such improved buckle may be developed m all
kinds of forms and dimensions, without departing rom the
scope of the present invention.
