ABSTRACT

The present invention provides for a case for a
portable computer and accessories. The case has a top
portion and a bottom portion hingedly attached together
such that the top portion is movable between an open
position and a closed position relative to the bottom
portion. The bottom portion includes a resilient interior
filling having openings therein for firmly holding a
portable computer and other accessories. The bottom
portion further has a flattened undersurface for supporting
the case with the portable computer and accessories in a
stable position, the case being balanced when the top
portion is in the open position with the computer and the
accessories therein to allow full use of the computer and
accessories when in the case.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. A case for a portable computer and accessories
said case having a top portion and a bottom portion
hingedly attached together such that said top portion is
movable between an open position and a closed position
relative to said bottom portion, said bottom portion
including a resilient interior filling having openings
therein for firmly holding a portable computer and other
accessories, and said bottom portion having a flattened
undersurface for supporting said case with said portable
computer and accessories in a stable position, said case
being balanced when said top portion is in said open
position with said computer and said accessories therein to
allow full use of said computer and accessories when in
said case.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

At the present time, portable computers are
provided with cases for carrying and transporting of same.
These cases are generally constructed of soft flexible
fabric material with padding provided to cushion the
portable computer in the event of accidental bumping of the
case containing the computer. However, such cases suffer
from the disadvantage that they do not generally provide
for space for carrying of accessories nor do they generally
allow for ease of use of the computer while it is
maintained in the case.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides for a case for a
portable computer and accessories. The case has a top
portion and a bottom portion hingedly attached together
such that the top portion is movable between an open
position and a closed position relative to the bottom
portion. The bottom portion includes a resilient interior
filiing having openings therein for firmly holding a
portable computer and other accessories. The bottom
portion further has a flattened undersurface for supporting
the case with the portable computer and accessories in a
stable position, the case being balanced when the top

portion is in the open position with the computer and the
accessories therein to allow full use of the co~puter and
accessories when in the case.

detail according to the preferred embodiments of the
present invention in which;

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a case according
to preferred embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the interior
filling of the case of Figure 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PREFERRED
EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:

Figure 1 shows a case for a portable computer and
accessories generally indicated at 10. The case is
preferably generally rectangular in shape and is similar to
an attache case. The case has a bottom portion 12 and a
top portion 14 hingedly connected together such that the
top portion 14 is movable between an open position relative
to the bottom portion 12 as shown in Figure 1 and a closed
30 position relative to the bottom portion 12. The bottom ~ -
portion 12 is provided with securing means 16 for holding
~ the case 10 in the closed position. The case 10 is also -
i~ provided with a handle 18 for ease of carrying of the case
during transport.
The bottom portion 12 includes a resilient
interior filling 20, the details of which are shown further
in Figure 2. The filling 20 can be provided as a removable

insert for the bottom portion 12, the filling 20 bein~
sized to be held securely within the bo~tom portion 12.
The filling 20 has openings therein 22 and 2q for firmly
holding a portable computer 26 and other accessories such
as for example a cellular telephone 28. The filling 20 is
preferably constructed of an expanded foam material either
closed or open cell, preferably open cell.

The top portion 14 may be provided with accessory
pockets 30 for holding papers or other accessories for the
computer.

The bottom portion 12 has a flattened undersurface
for supporting the case with the computer and the
accessories in a stable position. The case is balanced
when the top portion 14 is in the open position with the
computer and the accessories therein to allow for use of
the computer and accessories when in the case.

The pocket 22 in the interior filling 20 provides
for raising of the computer keyboard above the edge of the
bottom portion 12 such that the keys are readily accessible
to the user of the computer without having to reach over
the front edge of the bottom portion 12 and into the case
10.

It will now be seen how a case for a portable
computer and accessories according to the present invention
is useful for both securely and safely transporting of the
computer and accessories as well as allowing ease of use of
the computer and accessories while they are in the case.

Although various preferred embodiments of the
invention have been described in detail, it will be
appreciated by those skilled in the art that variations may
be made thereto without departing from the spirit of the
invention or the scope of the appended claims.
