"ROD-BENDER PIANT WITH DEVICE FOR SETTING T~E SIZE OF
2 RODS"
3* * * * * * *
4This invention concerns a rod-bender plant with a device
for initial setting of the size of the rods, the device
6 being of the type described in the pre-characterizing part
7 of the main claim.
8 To be more exact, the invention concerns a rod-bender
9 plant or double bending machine for rods for building work,
together with a device for the initial setting of the size
11 of the rods to be bent and shaped.
12 This double bending machine comprises two bending units
13 having substantially horizontal work platforms.
14 The work platforms normally include a bending assembly
supporting a shaping roll and a planetary roll.
16 Moreover, the double bending machine comprises guides for
17 reciprocal positioning, at least control and traversing
18 means and at least one motor; means to clamp the rods are
19 included advantageously between the two bending units.
Such double bending machine is served advantageously by a
21 bench for storage and delivery of rods to be bent; this
22 bench arranges for the proper handling of the rods.
23 Machines for the bending of round rods or shaped rods to
24 obtain metallic reinforcement rods for building work are
known.
26 These machines comprise a bending device with a
27 horizontal, rotary, powered disk equipped with a central
28 contrast shaping roll, an eccentric, planetary bending roll
29 and a stationary abutment element; the machine also includes
first and second bending units which can be positioned along
31 a runaway in relation to each other and to the intermediate
32 rod-clamping unit.
33 The bending units include powered means able to displace
- 2 - 2029414
1 one or both bendlng units and the lntermediate unit which
2 clamps the rod or rods to be bent at their ends.
3 Machines of this type are also known which have a
4 central data-processing and control unit associated with the
powered means and able to coordinate the movement of one or
6 both bending units and the rotation o the bending
7 assemblies according to a pre-set programme of bendlng the
8 rods.
9 One problem to be tackled in these machines, whether they
are of the type with intermediate clamping means or not, is
11 the correct positioning of the rods at the beginning of the
12 bending cycle.
13 At the present time this positioning is carried out by
14 approximation and the results are not constant, even though
they may be a few millimetres too long or too short.
16 DE-A-3301061 is known and provides a stationary abutment
17 with a positioner element able to move thereon. The
18 stationary abutment is anchored to the ground and is
19 independent of both bending units; this means that the
movable positioner element has to be re-positioned whenever
21 the bending unit is displaced. Besides the problem of the
22 continual re-positioning, this embodiment entails also the
23 drawback of contact between the stationary abutment or
24 support and the corresponding bending unit and also involves
the shortcoming of limitation of extension of the stationary
26 support owing to problems of overall size or of interference
27 or of stability of measurement.
28 The present applicant has considered this problem and has
29 brought about this invention so as to be able to have a
constant, fixed, initial positioning whatever reciprocal or
31 relative position the two bending units may take up.
32 This constant, fixed, initial positioning or setting the
33 size or length is carried out by control and actuation means
20294~4
1 for any position of the bending units and, if necessary, of
2 the intermediate clamping unit too when the latter can be
3 moved.
4 The rod-bender plant with a device for setting the size of
the rods, which comprises first and second units for the
6 double bending of rods for building purposes according to
7 the invention, is set forth and characterized in the main
8 claim, while the dependent claims describe variants of the
9 idea of the embodiment.
A first advantage of the invention is that it enables the
11 setting of the size of the rods to be bent, namely the
12 setting of the position of the beginning of the cycle, to be
13 always carried out identically and speedily.
14 A further advantage is that the device for setting the
size can be removed momentarily so as to have the bending
16 platforms free of interference.
17 According to the invention the device for setting the size
18 can be located at the side of the bending platform of one
19 bending unit.
According to a variant the device for setting the size is
21 located on the bending platform of one bending unit,
22 advantageously on the outside of the bending assembly.
23 In any event, according to the invention the device for
24 setting the size is located at a stationary constant
position in relation to the bending assembly of the bending
26 unit with which it cooperates.
27 According to the invention the device for setting the size
28 is a vertically movable blade able to take up a first
29 working position and a second retracted position. This
blade is positioned with its surface against which the
31 leading end of the rod abuts, at a right angle to the axis
32 of the rod and to the bending or work platform.
33 When in its first working position for setting the size or
2029~14
_ 9 _
1 length of the rod, this blade is positioned so as to
2 intersect the bending axis passing through the two bending
3 units.
4 According to a variant the device for setting the size is
a plate located on the end of a lever.
6 The attached figure, which is given as a non-restrictive
7 example, shows a three-dimensional diagram of a bending
8 machine with two bending units and with an intermediate rod-
9 clamping unit, equipped according to the invention.
In the figure a bending machine 10 comprises two bending
11 units 11, which can be moved in guides 12 by actuation and
12 traversing means, which are not shown here, or else only one
13 bending unit can be moved.
14 In the example shown each bending unit 11 comprises a
substantially horizontal work platform 13.
16 A bending assembly 14 is located on the work platform 13
17 and in this example is a bending disk, but could be a rotary
18 crank, and bears a planetary roll 15.
19 A shaping roll 16, or contrast cam having the same
purposes, is included on the axis of the bending disk or on
21 the axis of rotation of the crank.
22 The bending axis runs at a tangent to the two shaping
23 rolls 16 or on the axis of the contrast cam.
24 Bending is carried out by clockwise or anticlockwise
rotation, according to requirements, of the planetary roll
26 15 about the shaping roll 16.
27 Delivery arms 17 are included in this instance in
28 momentary cooperation with the upper part of the work
29 platform 13 and take a rod or bundle of rods to be bent from
a storage and delivery bench 18.
31 In their position to deliver rods to be bent the delivery
32 arms 17 are positioned above the work platform 13 and in
33 their terminal delivery position cooperate with the position
- 5 - 2029414
1 for insertion of rods to be bent ln a clamping unit 19, that
2 is, with the bending axis 23.
3 The bending units 11 can move in a coordinated manner, one
4 staying still while the other is moved, or can move
independently of each other in a dlfferentiated manner.
6 The clamping unit 19 is positioned between the bending
7 units 11 and according to the invention can be stationary or
8 can move along the guides 12.
9 If the clamping unit 19 can move, its movement is
coordinated with the requirements of the bending cycle and
11 with the value of the setting of the size of the rods, that
12 is to say, with the first common and constant positioning of
13 the setting which forms the starting point of the subsequent
14 automatic movements.
A device 21 for setting the size is included in
16 cooperation with a work platform 13 and is shown in its
17 first working position. It can also take up a second
18 retracted position free of contact with the rods and thus
19 frees the work platform 13 of any interference.
In its first position the device 21 stands with its
21 abutment surface 22 in a position to intersect the bending
22 axis 23 on which the rods lie. The abutment surface 22 is
23 positioned normal to the bending axis 23 and to the work
24 platform 13.
In the example shown suitable guides 24 are comprised and
26 guide the abutment surface 22.
27 The positioning of the device 21 in its first or second
28 position is carried out by a cylinder/piston actuator or
29 jack 25 in this case.
The control and actuation of the system can be achieved
31 with an external control panel or with a control panel 20
32 situated on one bending unit 11.
33 When the rod (or pluralty of rods together) is processed,
2~2~
1 it is positioned ln the clamping unit 19 along the bending
2 axis 23 and is thrust forward until it rests against the
3 abutment surface 22 of the device 21.
4 When the rod is thus positioned, the clamping unit 19
clamps it axially and the abutment surface 22 is then
6 retracted, that is to say, the device 21 takes up its second
7 position and the work platform 13 is freed of interference.
8 The bending cycle can begin in this manner from this
9 stationary starting position.
The device 21 can also be located outside the area between
11 the two bending assemblies 14 or within that area.
